While true, his country has less people in it than our city!

that is the worry, you get a pacey winger against him and we will get ripped to shreds. Lets face it, it cannot get any worse so lets see what happens eh???

I like Hussey as a player, but he's probably the slowest 22/23 year old I've ever seen, so I'm not overly worried by Hreidarsson's (lack of) pace.

now Mcpake is out, we officially have 3 fit defenders (clarke isnt fit )

Surely Herman is going to help with this ?

Is there anyone fit? Seems to be a recurring point!

Christ no! If true, I hope its to coach Hussey into being a left back and not actually coming here to play! De Ja Vu, sorry, Arjan De Zeeuw mark 2 IMO!

I know we want experience, but a left back needs pace. Wood has more pace than this guy, and I hate Wood at LB, however id prefer him here than Hreidarsson!

I try not to knock players before ive seen them play for City, but a 37 year old is not going to save our season. And yes, I know Wise did, almost single handidly, but this is different IMO!

I know we want experience but 37 is taking the f*cking piss right? Matter of fact is that the same age Bell will be when his contract runs out...

I'm gonna risk a slating here, but I don't think this is too bad. A major bit of experience, and considering how many last goals we've conceded due to lack of concentration. You can guarentee anyone not doing there job whilst under the kosh will get a roasting from him. Just hope it's not a replacement for keogh.

It's not Hussey's pace that's his problem, it's his too-narrow defensive positioning. Hussey has pace; he usually skins his opposing full-back 2-3 times a game, more on a good day. Ask Julien Flaubert, the not-too-slow West Ham full-back!

Back on HH: can't believe people say waste of money, as this is clearly the cheap alternative to Cummings of Bournemouth (who would cost 50-200k and want more than a 5 months contract). HH is free, and a short-term deal. Visionary investment again by SISU! But why invest if you're asset stripping, eh?

I wonder if Aron put a good word with HH? That or AT knows him; he's actually old enough to have played with him!

Can't believe some of the rubbish I'm reading in this thread.

Nimely is a crap signing because he's too young, now Hreidarsson is a crap signing because he's too old? Make your mind up lads.

As for him apparently not going to make an impact because its not a signing further up the pitch...wow, I'm not even gong to respond to that, what nonsense.

Nonsense??? How's it nonsense?

We have the worst goal scoring tally in the league. We need more attacking options. How's getting in a left back going to make an impact? Wise was an impact signing because of his creativity.

You carry on... This is how bad our club has gone when people are getting excited about a 37 year old who can't even make it in a poor Pompey team.

If we can't score many goals we need to stop letting them in. He will not be short of a bob or two. Could be playing for the love of the game. Will help the younger players get better. Could be a good signing. I remember what was said about wise and strachan.

Give him a chance. Could be what we need at the back.

Wise and Strachan were exceptional players, playing in different positions...Aaron de Zeeuw and Colin Hendry spring to my mind...

You're right we do need a striker and we are meant to be bringing in another one next weekx, but we also need a left back so how is it a bad move?

No wonder our club is so bad when fans ask why he's a bad move... It is Because he's 37 played just 2 games all season. Gonna take weeks for him to become match fit. Bit like Cody McDonald eh. That's why.

So you would rather have just Chris Hussey as our left back, who has been playing when only half fit for ages because there is no other option.

Jesus Christ... Wood can play there, Christie can play there plus can you seriously see a 37 year old who has only played around 50 games since 2008 and just 2 this season been match fit? It's a lazy buy by Thorn

Wood can't play there properly, he is a stop gap because he has a left foot, Christie can play there properly he has to cut inside every time he wants to cross to put it on his right foot. What other options in our budget would you suggest for a left back then?

How do we know what other options there are. There's surely better options elsewhere. If you seriously think the best of our budget is a 37 year old who has played 2 games all season as our best option then you are very easily pleased. It is one lazy transfer

He'll be a solid pro. May not be first choice you are all making assumptions. We're short on numbers, short on experience and he'll be good for the dressing room.

Come on Rob... It's on the pitch that matters.

On the pitch we have a 37 year old, who has no match fitness... Doesn't sound Great to me. Too many fans are living on his past.

I don't have too much of a problem with us getting him in with our current predicament. Is it a loan or a short term contract?

Bet it is a loan till end of season, with us paying only half his wages.. that is the way of SISU!

Good point on the Cody comparison. Too many players have been brought here mid season, or even end of first transfer window, but because of this they've not had a pre season. I expect this will be the same for Hreidersson. It happened with Freddy and Cody, both stating they needed a pre season before we'd see them at their best.

I don't know that was why I asked the question because I don't know any other left backs that are available, and the fact that you have avoided answering would suggest you can't name any either.

Haha Yes wait a minute I'll just phone up all my agent contacts and see... Behave eh. The point is, HH is a easy transfer. Next Thorn will be saying I've liked him for a while.

I think it is a good signing. We need someone with know how at the back.

Better than having no players.

The fact he is captain of his country still and playing at international level still is good enough for me

Wouldve been very happy signing him 5-10 years ago.

Getting on a bit but will provide experience and cover and is well-known to be an excellent pro, likely to be a signing with League 1 in mind, will be on cheap wages. I dont have much of a problem with signing him

Hermann Hreidarsson is poised to complete a move to Coventry this weekend.

The News can reveal the 37-year-old fans’ favourite is set to clinch a permanent switch to the Championship strugglers for what is likely to be a free transfer.

Hreidarsson is out of contract at the end of the season and is not part of Michael Appleton’s plans.

Once completed, the deal will allow Pompey to bring in a new face to bolster their squad.

The Blues have been told by the Football League that they must let a player leave before anyone can be signed this month.

Hreidarsson has become a bit hit with the Fratton faithful since joining Pompey from Charlton in 2007.

But he has been out of the first-team picture this season despite the club having the smallest squad in the Football League.

Thorn's offered him a 4yr contract with an option of another year
