But having also found us the likes of Gynn, Borrows, Gibson, Peake, Babb and Quinn... why isn't Bobby Gould in charge of our scouting?

With our current modus operandi (not an Italian player)I think a manager who has a really goos understanding of the lower league players would be a plus. I'd much sooner we spent our money on lower league triers/prospects than 'end of career' types (a la Tudgay - feel like I'm picking on him, but just an example). The one area I'd settle for some solid old battlers are central midfield, where we have struggled for a while.

Amongst the 'gems' you'll always sign a few that don't actually work out, so give BG a break.

So many fantastic signings including 'Psycho' the incredible Stuart Pearce!

Gould's Christmas destruction of Liverpool & Villa in 92 is a million miles from where we are now.
He made some mistakes, but we won 4 away in the prem on the trot, great days

Good call, would probably do it for nothing and that fits I with SISU budget. Did BG find Ndlovu?, cannot remember.

Thanks for explaining who Psycho was - thought it was Adam Barton at first :sarcasm:

He did, although Butcher signed him.

Speaking of which, rubbish manager, but Butcher could spot a player too, even if they didn't all work out for us. Ndlovu (Sillet may have found him, but somebody had to give him the chance), Furlong, Atherton, Robson...

I think we had a couple of those - and they lost the battle.

I think you're right- couldn't remember. I have a vague recollection of BG protesting / threatening to resign or actually resigning over PN's prospective sale to Leeds for about 3 or 5 million. I also have a dim thought that he then got sold for about 1m plus instalments about a year later - in true CCFC style business genius. Can anyone help with my hazy memory?

Gould did quit because he claimed we were set to sell ndlovu. We'd also just lost 5-1 to QPR...

Then, of course, we kept Ndlovu through Phil Neal and Big Ron, while adding to the squad.

Christ knows what happened then, although it was the days when Richardson followed the traditional model of good housekeeping! Although he did claim the protests after Gould quit scared away an Arab Investor....

Gould didn't sign Brian Borrows, think that was the hapless Don MacKay. Although Gouldie signed some good players on the cheap, such as Peake, Gynn, Pearce, Kilcline, Oggy, Terry Gibson Dave Bennett there were some real duffers too Graham Withey, Steve Morgan, Raddy Abramovic, Dave Bamber, Ashley Grimes, but the signing of Leigh Jenkinson for a £350k big fee in those days was one of the worst transfer deals ever for us, just what he saw in him is a mystery. I do know it was a mystery to some of the players too.

Can't knock that pony jump trick. I had never seen anything like it before - nor since.
