It would seem that Vik is staying put ….. for now , so how much does this put Doug/Robins plans back , especially as everything ( apart from Viv leaving ) was seemingly falling into place ?

Once the Euros finish I think we will see the top clubs up their respective games as regards in and outs.
I certainly don't see Vik or his agent wanting him to stay at sporting for another season at this stage of his career

I would say plan B was if Vik moved?

How do we know it's not arsenal or sporting themselves trying to workaround their commitment to us?

There was never any real foundation to any of the speculation - it's all been quiet for months from reputable sources.

I am sure this wasn't "Plan A" to begin with.

Why? At a top club, under a manager he respects, in a beautiful country, with excellent weather and Champions League football. Football doesn't start and end with the Premier League.

I don’t know but suspect he could have gone to a PL club last summer if he was so keen.

Some of the arguments here are exactly the same as those used to suggest we should sell Vik for under £10mil the season before he left.

He can probably double his wages with the right move this summer.

It's probably just his club or agent putting pressure on the buying club to pay what they want, or he stays put.

Once the Euros are over there's bound to be a number of high profile players swapping clubs. And someone will always want a prolific striker.

The links & transfers this summer suggest we’re making movements regardless of Vik’s situation (GK, CB, CM, ST).

If he does move I think we’ll push for more signings (LB, RB, CM no. 2) & we’ll save some for January

I think he’ll still go. He, his agent, and Lisbon will want to cash in while he’s at the peak value

And how exactly would that work? (Clue: it wouldn’t)

If our plan A revolved around a player being sold in another team. It’s time we questioned Doug’s strategy.

very much doubt Gyokeres being sold was crucial to our plan A

Yeah, we shouldn't be hinging plans on something happening elsewhere.

As others have said, Vik going will likely have been plan B.

If he goes next season, we'll have more money then - not really a problem. Only a serious injury would greatly devalue him. It's just cashflow.

Nah I think he is probably at the peak of his value right now. He’ll do well to replicate last season’s form and will be 27 next summer.

lol

but the point is anyone signing him would be unlikely to get significant resale value.

Doubt they care if he wins them four titles

Why would a team like Arsenal etc care about resale value? It's not their model, if he went there they'd play him unlike he wasn't good enough for them anymore and then they'd move on from him.

The Portuguese league outside the top 5-6 teams is very poor , so regardless of the weather and beauty of Portugal it's not good for his career progression.

And I can't see where I mentioned the Premier League in my initial post ?

If he does go it will be to another Champions League team but in one of the top leagues .
His move to Sporting was a brilliant one as it put him firmly in the shop window but at this point in his career him and his agent will want the big move

Other than 6 months/ a year later, can they get around the sell on clauses etc legally?
