Something noticed over the last two home games.... why does Pressley throw on a defender up front for the final 5-10 minutes?? .... Against Gillingham, Seb Hines, our new defender from Middlesbrough... ran on the pitch in the complete opposite direction than expected, and played centre forward for the entire end of the game...... Against Yeovil, same thing happened, except Aaron Phillips was given that role. Thought it very strange:thinking about::thinking about::thinking about::thinking about::thinking about:

He threw Reda up-top v Bradford too. I assume its a tactic that helps defend from the front and cause confusion.

At Gillingham it looked like it was to keep a strong defender away from the less physical striker, also makes lumping it up more likely to be fruitful I suppose

Against Gillingham with Hines it was possibly to add an extra physical presence, both to lump it forward to and to defend set pieces.

Yesterday I think Phillips' instructions were to just run around like a madman and to constantly press/close down.

Not sure tbh. Can't even be that we're short on strikers.

I'm sure he knows what he's doing...........right?

It's fresh legs to close down and see the game out. Reda at Bradford was because we were losing. You don't have to be Mourinho to work it out.

Worked well against Yeovil I thought. Ball stayed in their half for most of the final minutes. Usually when we're winning its backs against the wall stuff for the last moments.

Great post. That's exactly how I see it. Defend from the front. Look at Aaron Phillips he has no height but is quick. Still him up top for 5-10 mins close everything down and run into the corner.

Jackson was on international duty, Miller injured. Miller on bench to keep opposition guessing. More to tactics than you think. Maddison great prospect but not ready.

Jordan Clarke would be the obvious choice if anyone was going to be thrown up there!!

helps with the pressing i guess

strikers tend to run around alot and put pressure on but defenders might steal the ball with a tackle too i guess?

Gillingham's main attacking threat was their centre-half, so putting someone on up front who could win/challenge for the ball in the air meant he had to stay back.......
and Phillips just made a nuisance of himself as per another post, which kept the ball in the Yeovil half.
Good tactics by Pressley
