Fair enough, I often find simultaneously mourning a monarch and reinforcing a positive perception of a domestic rodent of South American origin a tricky balancing act so this gives me the breathing space I need, well done to all involved.

In German it's called 'Meerschweinchen' meaning 'little sea pig'. Which raises more questions than answers

They’re not from Africa either they originate from South America which begs the question why are they named after an African country.

I see they’re now finally allowing someone who served in the army for 10 years and a veteran of 2 tours of Afghanistan wear his dress uniform. Embarrassing that he was never allowed in the first place.

Has there been any indication of how much all of this is costing the tax payer?

Tbf, the lapping up of merchandise and papers will most likely offset it.

I'll bite, the income vs expenditure doesn't really cost us do I agree with several of 100's people or so living in exceptional wealth and luxury, no.

Do the journalists, merchants, travel agents, taxi drivers, restaurants, pubs etc benefit from a state funeral? Yes, they do.

Considering the cost of living crisis, people unable to afford basic utilities etc and the RF’s combined income…it’s amazing how conditioned people are to trot out the usual excuses.

I work a full time job, plus an extra part time job, that I've had before the "cost of living crisis". Maybe people need to put themselves out a bit more?

Do I think the Royal Family live a privileged lifestyle? Yes of course.

Do I think if the Royals are abolished, we all become better off in life? Get to fuck. We're all on a carrot on a stick life until you get that lucky break in life.

The lowest figure I've seen is £8 million but only for the funeral, no idea everything else on top plus the cost to the economy of the extra bank holiday. It makes me think we should call up Liz Truss and offer to make Hamer the King for that price, our fans will probably have the regalia ready for him anyway

His public appearance ban owing to poor discipline would be greater than prince Andrew's.

Yeah, because turning up to a funeral in a wedding dress wouldn't be seen as odd at all would it

How did I miss this epic.

A British woman has shared an image of a cloud formation resembling Queen Elizabeth floating over an English town, captured just an hour after the monarch passed away.

The £8m figure is obviously complete bollocks, that won’t even pay for the cleanup of the flowers littering the parks. Police, armed forces, councils, transport, catering, cleaning, stewards, facilities and much else will need to be paid for, they are not going to be doing this as a charitable exercise. It will be in the hundreds of millions before you even look at the cost to the economy of the bank holiday.

Standard reply for those that have fallen for right-wing economics. Perhaps ask yourself why you and others should need to do that while we have a government that refuses to tax energy companies that are making billions of extra profit during an energy crisis that mean people can't afford bills without help and are refusing low paid workers pay rises because it'll lead to inflation at the same time as removing a cap on bonuses of those who earn millions.
