Chris Witts, a former mayor of Gloucester, met the Queen a number of times, in particular when the royal couple sailed into Gloucester Docks to inspect the re-development there.

Quote Message: It was a wonderful hour, I saw her in a really happy mood. We spoke about the press and she said she had some stories about the London press and then burst out into a Cockney accent - I thought this is wonderful. I am so proud to have that hour with the Queen, I will miss her terribly.

We've got Charles until he dies, then. They really should modernise so the monarch abdicating is no bad thing. He should have been king ten years ago to allow his Mum a dignified retirement, and likewise for him whenever he gets more frail. He's 75 already!

He’s 73 I think - Madge has done a Sterling job over the last ten years - she made a commitment when she was 25 and she stuck to it

It’s interesting how conditioned the country is to be so compliant with the changeover of a ‘ruling family’.

Have to say that Charles delivered a very good speech there. To a degree whether you’re a royalist or not (I’m not) is pretty irrelevant, he’s now the head of state and on the basis of his speech I think he’ll do well.

I've always quite liked him, think he got a rough deal mainly because his marriage split up.

Again, can think the person is fine, not the institution. Imagine if he'd she'd without children, we'd be proclaiming King Andrew!

I can remember when I was a kid he got loads of shit because he would go on about the environment a lot. Turned out he was right. Doesn’t stop him travelling everywhere by private jet but he was right.

Can’t help but think when he talked about the importance of our parliamentary democracy it was a dig at the last PM and a warning to the new one.

Nah, he's just making clear he's not a dictator.

Same as serve rather than rule.

Charles spoke very well.

Regardless of who you are, royalty or man in the street, he still lost his mother and that's difficult for anyone.

It's think it's quite interesting watching this tbh... sure it's a bit boring but it's a little bit of history. Truss looks so fucking awkward though.

It's just the way she holds herself in general and here it's especially noticeable. Kind of like seeing a goat up a tree, you wonder how the fuck it got there.

Tbf it must be quite difficult for an ardent Republican to strike the balance between politeness and belief.

They can get voted out, choose not to stand, or be not allowed to stand again so yes, it already applies.

Not sure why people want to flog old people into the ground tbh. if it was a commoner people would be up in arms.

it doesn’t really apply - Biden was elected to be the person to lead the president race - age has nothing to do with it then

It does apply that when you're unfit to do the tasks of the role, you're not forced to continue it. Charles has been doing most of it for the past five years at least - there should be no obligation of the monarch to continue in role until death, and they should be afforded the respect of an honourable abdication if they feel unable to continue.
