Tim Fisher says Coventry City are closing in on deal for new stadium site

June 26, 2013 13:51By Les Reid
Sky Blues chief executive expects decision within three weeks - while Brandon speedway site is being sold.

Coventry City’s boss claims they are closing in on a deal for a new stadium - just as the Brandon speedway site is being sold.

Coventry City Holdings Limited chief executive Tim Fisher also said the club was still in commercial negotiations with clubs in the region over sharing a ground outside Coventry while the new stadium is being built.

Speaking publicly for the first time in two weeks, Mr Fisher told the Telegraph that Nene Park in Northamptonshire was NOT among groundsharing stadia “on the club’s radar”.

It is thought two or three preferred groundshares are still within the West Midlands
.

He was responding to renewed Sky Blues fans’ internet speculation over the disused former Kettering Town and Rushton and Diamonds ground - after the
Telegraph revealed the League is not insisting the groundshare must be within a 30-mile radius of Coventry , as had been previously speculated.

Fans’ rumours about Nene Park were also heightened after reports the electricity had been switched back on by an un-named third party.

On the site for a new stadium, which Mr Fisher hopes would be built within three years, he said: “We’re down to two or three sites in the immediate Coventry area, and we’re going into the final furlong of site negotiations.

“It is likely that in two or three weeks, we could be selected as the preferred buyer for one of those sites.

“We’re trying to get a site which meets all the requirements, not just around the first team, but academy too.”

The club would have to place a bond with the League of possibly £1million as deposit, to be paid should the new stadium plan fall through at any stage.

Don't know why I bother to respond. If it was just as simple as you're suggesting.

Just try buying a house or a business, never mind about the complications involved in building a new stadium but never mind I'm sure you'll get it one day!

Or maybe not?

Regardless of a move to a new venue, have faith.

Sites DO exist so for **** sake get a grip. Whilst it may or may not happen, the reasons why nothing's been confirmed are pretty obvious if you think about it but ..................................

You're absolutely right, these things, particularly commercial negotiations, take time. So why did the man who doesn't posture or use spin say it was "likely" we would be declared the preferred buyer in two or three weeks? The guy doesn't do himself any favours sometimes.

You are the one that told us news was just weeks away yet we are still waiting?

Of course there are sites around buying them and developing them now that's another story....or should that be fairy tale........

I buy houses to rent takes a maximum of 3 months also set up and started running my business in 1 week.

All depends on how dedicated and how much you want it.

What fucking grates with me concerning Fisher is that he actually believes the majority of fans have swallowed the worst smokescreen of all time and think Sisu will actually build this pathetic stadium.

He is as thick as shit if he believes we have.

Just shut the fuck up Fisher and stop treating us with total contempt .

Mr Bean would have done a better job at pretending to build a stadium .

The most patronising prick of a man I have ever come across

If it's simple or not, if they can't buy land in a third of the time they promised it'd take to *build* the stadium... then how you can be more charitable than suggesting that's sheer incompetence (and that's the positive answer!), I don't know(!)

RFC, its you who needs to get a grip. Majority of fans have said this new ground is bullshit.

And SISU are only intrested in the Ricoh.

But YOU are the one saying things are happening. Where is the evidence of this?

On one hand you make it pretty clear its the Ricoh they want. Then you say they are building a new ground.

Which is it cant have it both ways?

Misguided woman you are. Get a grip!

Poor old Timmy he really does seem to have number blindness 3 weeks or 12 months, 3000-7000 at Sixfields about 1200 or the ever changing number of potential sites. I should think the only numbers he understands are the ones on his big fat pay cheque! Why does Joy surround herself with these buffoons like him and Labo is it to make her look better?

Don't forget that the new stadium site needs to be kept a secret its of a very sensitive nature !!
If anyone finds out the location they may want to pinch Sisu's idea and build their own football stadium !
