In Harmers position did he react to Cooke as he didn't even see him coming until his arm was coming towards his chest, could you say it was self defence that was provoked??

Fucking stupid from Hamer , I’ve said it previously , if he’s going to be missing 6 games a season through stupid shit like this then I don’t care how good you are, it’s going to cost us deeply!

I’m more pissed off with the sending off than the defeat

Fell for the oldest trick in tthe book. Hamer is a red card waiting to happen. We knew this before he signed. Ironically he pussied out of that tackle for their third

I don’t think he pussied out, he looked like he overshot the tackle. He really needed to foul him if he weren’t in a position to win the ball.

It was stupid but in fairness he was pretty much assaulted by Cook. Cook instigated, made the more violent action but because Hamer's tickle was on the face and not the neck/chest then on he walks. It's a stupid rule but it's what it is.

I won't accept that that was a red card, regardless of what the rule book says. He should feel aggrieved.

Scathing assessment of Hamer by McSheffrey. And actually he is spot on.

Referee was poor tonight though. Fell for the tactics. Lerma should have been carded on two occasions for awful tackles on Hamer the first half.

For the red card, Dabo is taken out twice yet the first man escapes the yellow.

I completely agree. That's absolutely what he should've done. And frankly, if you're gonna gent sent off and miss 3 games at least make it a proper right hook.

The problem you’ve got with that is, the worlds full of pussys, that have been brought up snitching on every fucker, within a couple of seconds of the right hook landing, it would be on social media, within a couple of minutes plod will have been tagged in it, couple of days later he’s been arrested, 18 months down the line he’s in court receiving a 3 month stretch in a open prison, that’s 18 months of this shit hanging over him and the club, what was a a 3 game suspension as turned into a 19 and a half month nightmare, the worlds a mental place these days.

Way too much bias and emotion on this thread. It’s a red card. You can disagree with the actual law as it is soft but it’s a red card every time. The club will know it too and the proof will be in that we won’t challenge it. Cook was clever, he shoves him chest height. As soon as you touch someone’s face it’ll be deemed violent conduct. It’s naive from Hamer. Very similar incident in Everton west Brom saw James Rodriguez shove Gibbs off the ball, he raises his hands to Rodriguez face and is rightly sent off. Hamers discipline has been brought into question before this game and we’re 3 games in, in his 4th he does that. He needs to learn sharpish as he looks a hell of a player or he’ll be letting the side down spending a lot of time suspended.

I think he pulled out of the tackle if he is a so called hard man put that challenge in if you miss the ball you get sent off if you don't miss the ball you set down a marker. If you are going to get sent off get sent off for a proper challenge not a stupid tap or tickle on the cheek

Difference between young and old head. Hamer was suckered into it, fell into the trap. The likes of Doyle, older and experienced, would’ve just smirked in Cook’s face.

Get some street smarts, Gus.

Doesn’t make it right though, all this minimal contact bollox was brought in to make it easier for referees, if theirs contact it’s a foul, now even with VAR it continues. I could understand it when the ref saw it once, and he had to make a decision, same as I could understand players dropping like fly’s as soon as they felt the slightest touch because that’s the rules they exploited it, it was always going to happen. But now they can look at it a few times and say no way that amount of contact could stop anyone it’s a dive, have 6 months ban and a million pound fine. You’d stop it in a weekend and it would be a contact sport again.

( I know this game didn’t have VAR)

I'm convinced he didn't pull out of that tackle for their third goal. To me it looked like he thought he could just take the ball off the toe of the opposition player but was fractionally slow. As others have said, he should have gone down like he'd been shot when Cook pushed him and hopefully he'll learn from the incident at his own expense as well as the team's as Robins alluded to in the post match interview.

Fully agree. He thought he could toe the ball away, it was obvious. In his action straight afterwards too.

They obviously targeted him; get used it because it’s going to happen again. He needs to get a bit more streetwise and it was a sending off all day long.

Problem is we don’t have any creativity in midfield if he’s out numerous times. Also he keeps getting frustrated with the static nature of our attack.

Cook also did it behind the referee so the ref didn't see it. Hamer did in full view of the ref.

Its not even a debate, letter of the law its a red card.

Cook's push was definitely in the chest/neck area. Went in with his elbow then extended. Was the far more violent action yet he remains on the pitch.

It's the second time he's been sent off in 172 games. Let's not make this out to be a recurring thing. He lost his cool but what Cook did was far worse and was apparently only a yellow.

No excuse for Hamer but they should have had at least one walk for either scything Dabo or for throttling Hamer. Plus the one who scythed O’Hare and shouted at him to get back up right after.

It honestly felt at that point in the game they were just taking the piss out of us. They won’t win many friends playing like that.

To be fair, he had to be subbed off against Bristol to prevent him getting himself sent off.

To be fair, you could say the same about Ostigard last night, but nobody's questioning his temperament. We need Hamer to be competitive. Alongside his set pieces/passing/shooting, it's a key asset. I like him, but as I said in another thread, he's going to drive you mad occasionally - but way more positives than negatives with him, and if he is going to be missing for 3, I'd sooner it was 3 of the tougher ones than against middle table/lower teams.

True but if you compare

Bristol - Hamer yellow (taken off before sent off) / Ostegard not booked
Qpr - Hamer not booked / Ostegard not booked
Barnsley - Hamer yellow / Ostegard not booked
Bournemouth- Hamer red /Ostegard Yellow (taken off before sent off)

2 yellows, 1 red in 4 league games vs 1 yellow in 4 league games. Its clear to see why people are questioning Hamers temperament.

Distribution has been the poorest part of his game imo, but he is strong in the air and doesn't shirk a tackle. Rose will probably replace him anyway for the next game, given that Rose will be at our training ground for MR to work with, while Ostigard is away with the Norwegian national team. Our defence has been ok, except for the playing out from the back into the midfield, where we look like losing the ball too often. I am already tempted to go 2 up front, in an attempt to have enough play in the area we need to score goals, Interesting times ahead re: tactics. I'd be particularly interested in trying something different in the free hit type games (Brentford away being one of them)

In 3 of our 4 games we’ve had to score at least 3 goals to win a game. I would say it is a big issue especially as we weren’t even big scorers last season.

The only team we’ve kept a clean sheet against us is the one everyone else has too

slap in face - no excuse. Temperament issue a reasonable question, but we need his competitiveness though. as O'Hare aside without Hamer we are incredibly lightweight (unless Sheaf suddenly comes to the party). Kelly may help re: stability, but it remains to be seen how he will influence the team at this level. MR will have to do a lot of work getting the right balance and we will soon see who goes hiding and who can/can't cut it at this level. Patience needed - a thing in short supply amongst footie fans!
