Gus Hamer, Championship player of the year.

Congratulations, now I hope you're shite in the play offs.

I think we all knew how great him and Vik were. To have two generational talents in our side at the same time was pretty amazing, just a shame we couldn't get one more season, both fully fit and alongside the better squad we've got (although of course recognised it's improved because of their sales).

Gyokeres tonight 4 more goals. Now 52 in 48 games this season (38 in 30 league) with 3 league games and the cup final to go. Takes him to 95 goals in 98 games in 2 seasons, so could yet top 100.

Whatever you might think of the standard of the league, those are impressive numbers.

Gyokeres is now leading the European golden boot by 1 point even though he only gets 1.5 points per goal and nearly everyone else gets 2 points a goal on the list. Was a pleasure to watch the pair of them.

There’s been better this season, as I said before he’s been pretty average for his standards and can perform better.
The likes of:
- Dan James
- Manor Solomon
- Josh Brownhill
- Jayden Bogle
- Finn Azaz
- Jack Rudoni
To me all deserve a shout

A shout yes and people will always have different favourites. I'm not sure of the voting criteria tbh and whether it's players or journalists but I also assume they've seen him more often at closer quarters and not the few highlights that we have.

Was this voted for by the type of person who uses the term "cheat code" to describe a good player.

My red hot take is that Hamer is one of the best midfielders in the league. There, I said it.

He's a player who consistently wins games with a killer pass or a great strike or finish.
He does it regularly.
Sheff Utd would be a pretty average side without him.

Same could be said for plenty of other players though?

Sheff Utd have spent millions, they are hardly a Plymouth or Preston that are up there just because of Hamer.

Should have been James Trafford or Esteve, but a goalie or defender will never win an award like that

I’d have given it to Tanaka. Runs the best team in the league.

Fully deserved. Even if he hasn't been at his best, I don't think there's a single player in the league that drags a pretty average team into a very good team single handedly like Hamer does.

He's a very good player at this level. But he's only played 26 league games.
That doesn't suggest they're average without him.

Fair enough. I saw he'd only played 26.
Still think they're a well above average team even without him.

Yeah managing his minutes, even with that he's only played 300 less minutes than Rudoni who's played 2 more games.

Hamer has been hugely influential on Sheffield United's season and without him they are a much weaker team, however some of our fans obviously feel better playing his value down. The same fans no doubt who wanted us to sell him for less than £5m at one point! I do agree though that the Burnley keeper surely has to be the Championship player of the season by anyone's standards.

I think it's a bit random how people are trying to make out Sheffield United are nothing without him.

They literally went out and spent a fortune, bought up all the strikers as well.

Maybe, but he is undoubtedly their most influential player though. Without him they would be closer to Sunderland's points tally than where they are now.

This. I'm not saying hes not a good player, but they're still a very decent outfit without him.

Exactly, it's not like he's single handedly dragged a Preston or somebody right up the table.

Do we have a sell on clause? If so, I am delighted by him winning as it puts him firmly in the shop window for a Premier league move if they dont go up.

Loved Gus but the guy ain't got 3 years left in him.

What a fucking talent, but my word he's got even fatter.

He's 28 in less than 2 months, I'm certain by the time he's 30/31 he will be a shadow of his current ability, I think it's pretty common knowledge the lad loves going out on the piss and eats whatever he wants which is fairplay.

But I can see Gus this time next season being moved on, relegated Shef U will cash in on him and he will likely grab 1 last handsome signing on bonus.

Class player, fucking favourite player of the last 5 years by a margin, but boy its quite incrdble a lad in his shape is such a talent.

Football players retiring in their early 30's isn't early. It takes dedication and a healthy lifestyle to carry on until the mid 30's and further. The reason Hamer has got away with it this long is he is a gifted player. He loves his beer. He loves his food. He should have financial security by now.
