Its the G20 summit so its anti-capitalist mainly. There was a scheduled protest march from the harbour to the summit venue. For some reason the police decided to stop the march not far from its start in an area known for housing a large numbers of anarchists and squatters.

The police then decided to separate the leaders of the march from the rest of the crowd (there was 12K there), you can guess how that worked out.

Should have announced before hand anyone covering their faces are fair game for the police. The G20 is just an excuse for people to act like hooligans. Do they know who owns the property they are smashing up and do they care? Probably not.

That almost sounds as if you are trying to blame the Police Dave!

The last time I was in Hamburg I protested too.

Those hookers on the Reeperbahn aren't as cheap as they used to be.

Not at all but I don't think the tactics they employed helped things. If they were worried about trouble why let the march start and then stop it in an area known for anarchists?

The original plan for the protest was a concert and speeches in the harbour before the march. The first part went off without a hitch and the protesters later regrouped and 8-10K (depending which reports you believe) marched with no incident.

For me the better option would have been to steer the march away from problem areas and contain the anarchists separately and deal with them swiftly and strongly rather than getting everyone mixed in together.

The police had said no hiding your faces. The black block hid their faces and the police stopped them in a place where they could be contained to remove the "black block". The "black block" are anarchists, antifa, extreme left and just generally cxxts. They travel around for these sort of things. Having been divided and seen that they were the target of the police, they decided on geuerilla tactics and went around in groups just smashing windows, setting cars alight and generally terrorising Hamburg. These people don't necessarily come from hamburg or even Germany. Some French was reported for example. I know Germans who went to Genoa a few years ago to riot there - I think that was G7 or 8 then.

It is a pity for others, thousands of people who just want to protest peacefully for various causes. The ones that shout the loudest and cause the most problems are the ones that get the most coverage. I wanted to go to protest Trump, but the missus wouldn't let me :-(. Ended up watching steam engines and museum ships yesterday in Flensburg, and ran into a CSD parade in Kiel today. No trouble there. No riots. No "black block". Just people showing they were there and asking for tolerance/ acceptance. What a difference.

Before anyone says just the left. Most people who were protesting were more left than right and protested peacefully. Statisically, according to the Verfassungsschutz, there are 12000 violent or potentially violent right wingers and 8500 violent or potentially violent left wingers in Germany and 700 Islamists in this category.

The absence of right wingers doesn't mean they have gone away. This G20 was not their "thing" as Putin and Trump were there. No point for them protesting.

The G20 events are taking place near the harbour and at the Exhibition Centre ( a few hundred meters away ) and the ( Elbphilharmonic also not far away ). This happens to be not far away from anarchist areas. The police expected trouble... the message "Welcome to hell" from the protestors sorts of gives it away. But noone in left wing, liberal Hamburg expected the violence to be so bad. Everyone including Merkel, insisted that people have a right to protest. These cxxts have just taken the piss and ruined for the genuine people. The area is downtown Hamburg where shops restaurants and banks are.

Hamburg has the hotel beds and facilities all grouped in a relativeely small area. Difficult to keep people out of there and noone wanted people kept out. The hope was for peaceful protests..... but the "black block" and some others preferred "welcome to hell".

That is correct. His party started off as National Socialist and morphed into a pro business nationalist party. He blamed capitalism and communism on the jews, purged his party of the socialists and we all know what happened after that.

According to older people I spoke to in Hamburg years ago, Hamburg was a red fortress until the Nazis took over, but many of the reds ended up as browns (Nazis) even suppressing their former colleagues or supporters.

Von Ribbentrop after his first visit to the Soviet Union reported back that there so many likeminded people that he came into contact with.

Swapping from extreme left to extreme right doesn't seem to be that great a problem.

I also went to a trades council meeting and a NF meeting in the 70s. I was amazed how similar the proposed tactics at a demo were between the Antifa and the National Front. The only difference in the camaraderie that I noticed was that, whereas the NF referred to each other as comrades, the antifa and trades council referred to each other as brothers.

I made up my mind to steer well clear of both sides and stick to a relatively boring, but decent middle line. Glad that I did.

The first quote isn't Hitler, its Stasser who Hitler ordered to be assassinated. (edit: as mart says above it was made in the early days of the party when it was very different to what it became under Hitler)

The third quote is from an interview Richard Breiting claimed he had with Hitler in 1931 but didn't publish to the 60s. It is widely questioned for its accuracy as its not consistent with other interviews / speeches.

The forth quote should be part of the text of the fifth, its been lifted out of its original context 'I want everyone to keep the property that he has acquired for himself according to the principle: benefit to the community precedes benefit to the individual. But the state should retain supervision and each property owner should consider himself appointed by the state. It is his duty not to use his property against the interests of others among his people. This is the crucial matter. The Third Reich will will always retain its right to control the owners of property'

The sixth quote is William Makepeace Thackery.

The seventh quote is attributed to Goebbels in the US Senate's Publications Relating to Commission. No reliable source has ever been found.

The eighth is a misquote of what was claimed by Alderman at the Nuremberg trial to be from Hitlers second speech at Obersalzberg. The actual quote Alderman claimed belonged to Hitler was 'Destruction of Poland in the foreground. The aim is the elimination of living forces, not the arrival at a certain line. Even if war should break out in the West, the destruction of Poland shall be the primary objective. Quick decision because of the season. I shall give a propagandistic cause for starting the war, never mind whether it be plausible or not. The victor shall not be asked, later on, whether we told the truth or not. In starting and making a war, not the Right is what matters, but Victory. Have no pity. Brutal attitude. Eighty million people shall get what is their right. Their existence has to be secured. The strongest has the right. Greatest severity.'

This happens at every Antifa/Anti-capitalist protest, like SWP banners at any vaguely left wing event. Tiny group of arseholes that turn up at these events and end up getting all the media attention, usually nothing to do with the organisers or anything. Must be frustrating as fuck if you are some lentil eating muesli knitter and these dicks show up.

Yes. There were plenty of those in Hamburg. I'm sure a few choked on their Lentils.

One outside lefter from the 'Rote Flora', an old theatre that is now a left wing Centre of alternative life style, said that although he agreed to an extent with the riots, they shouldn't do it in their and his area of Hamburg.

Great attitude.
