I said a month ago when others were concerned about transfer activity or lack of it that I would defer my angst at least until the middle of next month about player signings and squad strength.
So what have we got on board over last year:
Vincelot and Ricketts, both players could/should prove good acquisitions at this level ?!

Reda is a decent player but I'm not convinced that the manager can suddenly break his mould and have him starting 40 games a season and I'm not convinced by Tudguy either and whether he can sustain a positive attitude. Neither do I think that Burge is a number one keeper.
So in short I think we need a new keeper, 1 additional central defender, 2 x Midfielders and 2 x strikers at least. I also hope we haven't played half a dozen games before we see them join us.

2 midfielders and 3 strikers, for me, is the most urgent.
Worrying that we are so poorly funded that we have to wait a month into the season for prem or champ cast offs. If we do get loans I would want one quality striker on full season loan, no use having to send him back in January.
It looks like mid table mediocrity to me atm

They will sign when Mowbray gets a player he is happy with, Mowbray isn't going to sign any crap to make up the numbers. If it means waiting till end of August/early September to get the player he wants then Mowbray will do it.

Mathieu Manset and Denzil Slager come to mind.

I have looked at the transfers in and out for League 1, some clubs have brought more in than us (although not convince on the quality) but often they have released more.

Bury seem to have invested heavily on Pope and Clarke, whether they will get value for money time will tell. Gillingham and Burton are also interesting. But every transfer is a gamble, you never know what you get until they play for you.

Big signings I remember that didn't work for us Larry Lloyd, Gary Collier, Kevin Drinkell, Julian Joachim, Freddie Eastwood (Wolves must be still laughing).

Last season most would have expected Danny Pugh to be very decent.

People that were low key signings but superb Stuart Pearce, Gary Gillespie, Ian Wallace, Trevor Peake, Dean Emmerson, Peter Ndlovu.

These are quickly off the top of my head, I am sure you lot can add to both lists.

It is not always about a player being good or bad it is about if they fit in with what you already have.

Historically our summer purchases have been disappointing. Certainly in the post Atkinson period where we brought in a number of players every summer, the successful ones are in the minority.

Most of the best signings in recent years have been signed in season... Playing proper games probably helps focus the manager on what we really need rather than what we theoretically need.

I hope to see a striker brought in but if it was the only one prior to the Wigan game I wouldn't panic.

Surely its a gamble waiting for Prem loanees as they are more likely to take a Championship club over one in League 1. We still have some time of course but I'm beginning to wonder if TM is finding it harder than he thought to bring players in to what has been a car crash of a club for a few years now. Lets hope all the positives we have seen this summer off the pitch are not to be overshadowed by fielding a team similar to the flops from last term.

Who is available at the moment you would go for and what do you think the cost would be?

I'm no football scout, I've no idea without some serious research but there is a big world out there. Are we looking abroard these days, have we got any sort of a network in place ?

Patients is the key. Mowbray has confirmed what he is after and my betting is there's been plenty of chat with his prey. Still think Michael Jacobs and Dominic Samuel are high on his list and we are just waiting the ok from their parent clubs, the other name doing the rounds is Rueben Reid, think he was at West Brom when Mowbray was manager, get at least two of them and it could be happy days

Pressley complained the scouting system was not up to scratch. Any improvements were his contacts rather than the clubs. In fairness to him Pennington and Samuels came in after that which were vast improvements on what we had been getting.

Waggott said Pressley always had the final say, but a say on what kind of choices.

Mowbrey said he has never known a club not have a data base of players which backs up what Pressley had said. It seems we were reliant on what was offered us rather than selecting who we wanted.

There is no doubt this has put Mowbrey on the back foot because it takes time to assemble the network and information. It is clear Mowbrey wants to spend his budget wisely, so won't sign players just to plug holes.

Every team wants a 20 goal striker, as Mowbray says you are unlikely just to find these players on clubs unwanted lists. Also once you spend the money it is spent.

So if you can't source the right player straight away it will probably pay to wait.

Mowbray has the expierence and the contacts to turn this Transfer Window into something we haven't seen in years. We must have patience and trust in Mowbray!
