You might be right. He certainly doesn’t seem to lack confidence now!

He seems well integrated into the group and seems to have a good bond with MVE, Tavares and Rudoni

Yep, and it takes time to build. You could see him beating himself up whenever he missed good chances last season.

If this has been said already sorry but...

At one point on Friday in the 2nd half Haji had a long cross field ball coming towards him and had a marker right on his back. He controlled the ball perfectly on his chest, killing the pace of it instantly, then turned and left the defender for dead. Got 3 yards away before the defender even realized what had happened.

It was contender for 'champagne moment' of the game

Don't think it was ever an ability issue with Wright or Simms.
Wright particularly in those early games was just a bit off the pace and the game almost passed him by, but that's probably just getting used to the league and building some confidence.
Now he's settled and we have one of the best players in the Championship imo

Most composed in the box I've seen for some time. Never seems to lash at it or rush.

If Rutter's gone for 40m after 6 goals Wright's got to be worth 30m allowing for his age. Backing him to get 15 goals by Christmas.

We’d do well to get our money back on him to a club in Turkey. He’s clearly too shy to make it in England.

i preferred his header to the winner. If Haaland or Ronaldo scored that you wouldn't hear the end of it.

The way he powered in was amazing. No defender or keeper in the world was stopping him.

She clearly will be unsettled.

She must watch him play so utterly brilliantly and wonder "how the hell can I compete with that?"

I'm unsettled too and haven't even met the bloke.

Harsh on Gouldy, but there was the famous Shankley quote that he could "trap a ball further than most people could kick it"...

I do know that pass that Haji made and Simms missed by inches Mr R Gould would have put in the back of the net and the keeper if he even got it.
The guy averaged a goal every 2nd game with us.

His record for us was brilliant.

A classic "old fashioned centre forward".

Never forget the three 9's shinning bright on the scoreboard on a shit night in 1966 when he got the first 3 in 5-0 win over Ipswich.
There is a picture of that board still in existence.

I remember that night. I might be wrong, but I seem to think that Gould had been getting a lot of stick from some fans in the weeks leading up to that triumphant performance. Some things never change, only at that time it was 'poison pen letters' whereas now you get anonymous keyboard warriors.

I think the problem was back in 1977 that we just needed a defensive midfielder and right back cover in that squad.

Worked at GEC Helen Street then with a great bunch, overtime Saturday morning our section was the only one in and one guy would shout his name every so often. It didn't half echo through the place. They were great city times then just like now.
An air of anticipation.

There's a famous old story about Bill Shankly and his then soon to be wife.

She was apparently trying to arrange a wedding date, but knew she couldn't book it for when there was a match on.

So, she finally found something and said she had a date and it was fine, because she checked all the fixtures and Liverpool weren't playing that day and neither were Everton.

He replied with something along the lines of "but that's no good either, Tranmere Rovers have a game on."
