Any news on when the glass cannon is due to return, or is he going to miss another pre-season?

Lampard referenced being ready for 1st game.

he’s got tendinitis so hard to put time frame on

Forgive my ignorance but could Tendinitis be an ongoing issue or is it a case of rest and recuperate?

I don't think it's ever fully cured it's just something that needs to be managed

You definitely can. Especially with the physio and treatment that will be made available for Haji.

But as others have mentioned there's no real timeframe for recovery.

I had it a couple of years ago and it lasted a solid 12 months.

I doubt there's much chance of that. He's already 3 weeks behind. Rush him back and he'll end up injured again. I imagine the upcoming World Cup will be in the front of his mind too, especially near the end of the season.
I'm expecting lots of sick notes from him this term, would be better off selling him.

Clearly I'm not a professional footballer but I've just had a bout of tendonitis after too much running and after about 6 weeks of light work I'm almost back to normal. But I can imagine if I was running and sprinting and twisting like a footballer it could flare back up quite quickly.

Doubled edge sword for him though. If he isn't playing well for us regularly, he won't be in the USMNT squad.

I expect a season like the last one, 1 good game in 5, doing the bare minimum.

There is also an element of the player - how much do they want to play through it. Id wager Haji is not the sort to play through much, which is why we had his "effort" towards the end of the season.

As others have said, he will also have first class medical treatment available so who knows, unlikely to be "ready" for start of season, 4 weeks in then he will jet off with US again.....

Why are people talking about tendonitis as if it’s one specific injury with a specific timeframe?

All it means is inflammation of tendons. Depends entirely on severity, could be absolutely fine after a week or two of rest/recovery. And no it’s not something you never recover from lmao

His place within USMNT is hardly secure. He needs a productive season to even make the squad.

If Poch slots him as an LW, then he is in a battle with Diego Luna to backup Pulisic. Luna had a wildly successful Gold Cup and has been drawing La Liga interest this summer.

If Poch views him for the ST role, then Haji is probably just behind Balogun, Pepi, and Sargent, with competition from Ageymang and Downs for any final spot should one of those top 3 be injured.

He needs to perform better than that if he wants to get in the US world cup squad.
Im expecting him to put some big shifts in this year, then he'll be sold after the world cup.

I've heard from Josh's Hairdresser that Haji wont be ready until End of September, Josh a couple of weeks earlier.

Don't know if I am being overly optimistic but I am expecting big things from Wright this season you would think the thought of being involved in a world cup squad on home soil would be a massive incentive for a player

Yeah he needs to have a bit of a stormer this season to get in - which benefits us

Not a great start though with another pre-season missed (3rd in a row he hasn't had a full pre-season). It usually takes him a while to get going

Wild card for sure.

if he plays up to his potential, he could be a game changer. Hardly seems like he wants it at times.

We desperately need a decent striker. Frank n Doug will sort it

Another reason to get a quality striker in. Not just to replace the awful output of Simms and BTA but to light a fire under Haji's ass that he has to perform every week to get in the squad and if he doesn't bye bye World Cup.

Hes an auto in the team at the moment and he often plays like he knows that. Get the good version every week and we'll have our next huge sale.

EMC has put real pressure on his place on the left. Get another decent striker in and I agree, not an automatic starter at all.

This is correct.

Can range from asymptomatic to utterly debilitating, although the underlying cause is a change in load that the tendon isn't prepared for, so you wouldn't expect an elite athlete to develop a significant one.

Players are often playing through minor tendinopathies perfectly safely while they do their rehab alongside, so it surprises me he is completely out of action.

For Haji, if he takes longer on the recover and comes back with a bang, he’ll make the squad. If he comes back not quite fit and he ambles around as he did in the playoffs… he won’t.

Quality of games is key imo.

Yes and no.

He definitely doesn't make it if he rushes back and his form suffers accordingly. But it is a double-edged sword. If he misses the September or October friendlies, he is giving space for Poch to provide a call-up for Luna as the LW backup to Puli. After that, it may be too late. Luna may, through his own play and performance in training, cement his status in Poch's mind. Even giving Luna a window of opportunity to impress with the A-team might push Haji outside the first-choice roster bubble.

It might well be overly optimistic, but it's also a fair point.

Here's hoping, eh.
