Hopefully Arsenal's latest bid for Rice should see them flush and looking to start moving in the market.

It’s frustrating but I do hope he and the club/fans part on good terms - he’s been too good for us to be badly thought of

Apparently negotiated a 5 year deal with SL and they've slapped on an 80 million (euro) transfer clause.
(According to the oracle at work this morning)

Thank god Simon Gilbert isn’t leading the negotiation.

They'll both be on PL wages now too. Non-starter.

Those two players plus £10m would be a great deal - how much are you expecting us to get £25m at least?

Really surprising. The bottom half of that league is like non-league here. The players might be a bit better but the stadiums and attendances are so poor.

Surely if a PL side were interested, he wouldn’t go.

Why not? He probably wants to be guaranteed first team football and could see it as a stepping stone to playing in Spain or Italy .

You only have to look at the players Sporting have developed over the years to see why it’s an exciting prospect for any young player

He’s 25, not 21 - if he does minimum two years years there then he’s 27. Probably rules out most clubs paying a significant fee, and he’ll still have (as reported) 3 years left on his contract.
His stock is high now, why not cash his chips for a PL move now.
Unless there genuinely isn’t interest

Believe it or not but the world doesn’t revolve around the PL. At 27 he’ll still be in his prime too.

It’s a good stepping stone to elite level football, Sporting are in the Europa League and if he scores a few in that then who’s to say a ‘bigger’ club wouldn’t be interested

People are forgetting as well, he’s not English - So staying in England might not be the be all and end all - In terms of lifestyle I’m choosing go live in Portugal over the UK any day of the week

I reckon the only thing stopping Gyökeres going to Burnley would be Gyökeres

I think that he’d personally see himself above signing for a newly promoted side and besides that he does seem to have his heart set on Sporting

17.5 million is the agreed transfer fee. (Again from the work place oracle)

It doesn’t but it’s objectively the best league where players can earn the most money, so it’s illogical to not move there if you have the chance.

No but I wouldn’t pay £6m for McNallly and £4m for Twine either. McNally moved for less than £2m this time last year and couldn’t get in the Burnley side. Twine was mainly a fringe player too.

it’s only 6 months ago fans on this site were saying we should accept £4m-£5m for Hamer !

i think £19m or above is fair value for Vik. It’s potentially a game changer for our club, materially over paying then for the incoming players just wastes that opportunity.

So were reliant on one player leaving for transfer funds?

Are we skint?

Seems a risky approach though - he’d have to do well in the Europa league, because the Portuguese league is pretty poor. 4 games a season against decent opposition.

I agree with the lifestyle point, Lisbon is a beautiful city and he’d have a great time there. However football is a short career and he could do that afterwards.

Don’t get me wrong, they’re a prestigious club, but are they any better than say Rangers?

They’re a PL side and McNally was in a team that got to the play-off final last season - he’s worth quite a bit more than 2m now - I’d imagine they’d accept 4-6m for him.

Why would they be on premier league money when they were both signed after Burnley were religated and Burnley had shed all there big money earners?
