Love the suggestion that other clubs will be looking at Doug King’s quotes to gauge how much money we have, as opposed to the Sporting Lisbon press release that says they’re giving us €17 million.

Whilst I agree it’s too early to tell it’s not an exaggeration to say he’s done more in the short term.

- Sorted out the shambles of a pitch at Ryton
- Secured arguably our best ever manager and coaching team on long term contracts (previously was a rolling contract)
- Ensured we got top money for our assets
- Record signing since PL days (with add ons could be record ever)
- A deal at the CBS which may be more expensive but allows us to have exclusivity of the bowl and the potential to do what we please (safe standing)
- Ensured the best pitch will be installed at the CBS

Yes it is early days but what else can we expect to happen in 6 months of ownership?

Sisu invested £20 million plus when they took over and the Acadamy was a success under them

you can’t really credit him for getting Gyokeres to a position of sale

Robins wanted a rolling contract

He can't control what SL write, or what people think, but like others said, he can control what he says himself. He's said a chunk of that money goes on other things besides transfers.

True or not, feel like it makes sense to say it. Hopefully it's to stop people wasting time asking for daft fees, and not him covering for recouping his outlay so far. Time will tell.

It won’t affect transfer negotiations one bit - unless we’re dealing with a particularly gullible/naive club.

It’s only been included in the club statement at all to manage fan expectations really.

From an interview DK did on 19 June in the CovTel.

"Put to him that there’s a What’sApp group of 28 existing box holders and none of them intend renewing, he said: “Of course that’s disappointing if that’s the case. This whole plan for Coventry City and what we’re trying to achieve requires everyone to get on board. It requires me to get on board and finance the operating losses at the club, which are significant.

“It needs me to get on board and do the infrastructure at the club, the pitches, the training ground and ultimately the Academy. I have said I am going to do that out of my own pocket because it’s clearly not going to come from any revenues or profitability of the club. The club should have the facilities that it needs."

Link to full interview: Coventry City owner Doug King defends price hike amid Premier League ambition

So for those asking, as of 3 1/2 weeks ago, it very much looks like DK was saying he was funding the relaying of the pitches and the improvements to Ryton. Not the club and not the unhappy corporate box holders. I point out the the date of this interview as this was well within the period of the Gyokeres transfer saga so it is presumed that he had dismissed those funds from his intentions.

I will add that I'm surprised we get to see a players contract so soon after signing. Well I am in that most clubs tend to hide that information from audiences and prospective transfer dealings. But I'm not in that Sporting have done practically everything else in this transfer through the press or social media (how much could they have got for the social media rights to his medical ?). This almost has the feel of them shouting from the highest hotel in Lisbon "Hey, look at us. We bought an expensive player. Look at us rich buggers " to boost their own ego.

Well, he's gone now. Good luck and he leaves us with some amazing memories (the Wigan goal will always be remembered) and a purse that hopefully MR can use wisely to help keep us at the top end of the Championship until we can regain our foothold in the top flight of English football.

Page 127 and this will still rumble on for another 30 pages or so, won't it ?

Just been looking through one of the Sporting Lisbon fan sites, it seems (at least to them ) the thing that took so long was city's insistence sporting paid the 10% sell on fee to Brighton ( the training club) and they are moaning like fuck about it. 2m (€) 10% to training club €22m + €4m . They are happy with singing Vik but fuck me they think Doug's had there pants down. Good on you Doug!

What a way to say goodbye.

You could see that it came from the heart. Makes me believe even more he would have stayed if we got promoted. We will be a club he will struggle to beat for playing for. And many questioned the reason he chose Sporting as his next move.

Thanks for everything Vik. Hope we meet again

I don't know how the monies in is attributed according to whether its team, board room alcohol or infrastructure. And to be frank, I don't really care (the point about the box holder costs was rhetorical as it was current discussion) Unless it comes out that DK was lying and he used 90% of the Vik transfer money on improving the board room tea trolley, if we have a better team and club at the end of the season because of this windfall, who loses ? Why are we spending so much time arguing about something that we won't have the full picture about until the accounts are released ?

We have in the last week about equalled our highest transfer fee paid this century. We also trebled it with another signing with add ons on top. We have weeks of the transfer window left. Not to expect too much?

So would spending most of it on two players have been wise? Should we rush into signings?

Some need to mellow out. Every side needs to sign players. Nothing special about us.

Christ some of you don’t half talk shite. No one knows how much of the funds will go on transfers, it’s obvious a large chunk of it wouldn’t be reinvested in players. That’s how business works.
