My point is he was right we were asking a lot for him given his contract situation.

Yeh there were a few articles flying about when someone asked if he wanted to move. It wasn’t until the summer he said he wanted to go or inferred his fee was too high. Not once has he ever refused to play for us or given less than a 100% on the pitch. If he did that he’s a twat or if he slags the club off after he leaves then I agree he’s a twat. Not for saying he thinks his fee is too high in my opinion.

Fuck it we’ll have Simms score 25 goals, get us promoted - sell him for 55m because of the English tax then buy back Gyokeres

Lets face it whenever we have a good player some fecker will come along and spoil it. We all knew he was going and if his departure means we stop shopping at Aldi and move on to Sainsburys so be it. Thanks for the memories Vik one of the best strikers we have had for many a year and for once we had a player that any team in our division would have definitely wanted in their team so feel the pride all now its onwards and upwards....hopefully

Hope gyokeres smashes it to be honest. Every player signing for cov should look at what he'd achieved, and what WE can achieve for them as well.

Also tje more successful he is the better off we are in the future

We will follow Viks career closely no doubt. We profit from his future success!
Hopefully he moves for £50m next year! Like his predecessor did.

Main difference is this time we've got a great fee, and it appears we're re-investing that in the team

Bitterness ? Nah, that was Dublin, Boateng and more than a few others that voiced their desire to leave and then forced it to happen. This was just disappointment that he left in such an acrimonious way. To use your anecdote, it's like your love life not only running away with another, it's with the guy you were trying to set up with her sister and they posted all the inappropriate pics on your instagram account. And she was definitely fit, the speed the two of them left at, it was like taking a private jet over to the Azores (or somewhere close).

Can't knock a young player for wanting to improve and move on. We've had lots who have used us as a stepping block. What has hurt me is how this was done, through his new agent and the club pushing for his signature. The whole saga with Sporting started so early, he has to have been approached by the club before time allowed and then to be challenged by their owner in the press about his fee. And you can tell his frustration grew as the season went on, his selfishness with the ball increased and from the Behind the Scenes vids, looks like he began to withdraw from the group. My opinion and could be totally misreading the body language.

Don't wish the lad any malice at all but I can't say I'd be unhappy if Sporting see some karma for their actions.

All those wanting him to fail we likely have clauses and a sell on clause that will come with his success...

But that is the modern game. That is how it is.

However we've played it as well this time, and got ourselves a great fee. Things have changed.

Sisu (circa 2008-2016) would've sold him for about £4m. Then complained that there wasn't any money to build a decent team and blamed CCC/Wasps/Higgs/Telegraph.

Agents are part of the game now. We just have to accept that. But part of that is playing them at their own game, which we seemed to have done here

I'm never one to want someone to fail but after that question and the way his agent and Sporting have acted over the last 6 months, I really hope he finishes the season on "Nil gol" He's done the club well during his stay and his fee will certainly help us for the future. But each to their own battles now, he's no longer ours and what he does is irrelevant to Coventry from the moment he signs that new contract.

I don’t think we were ever asking for an unreasonable fee especially given how they’d sold a player themselves for £40-50m.

Personally, I think a Prem team may have been willing to pay slightly more later on in the window.

Which would be a higher risk strategy and it seems like we were waiting to sell Gyokeres before doing our own business. Therefore, for all parties involved, there was a desire to get the deal done promptly. Sporting to avoid competition with team with more financial muscle. From our POV, the revenue would allow us to manoeuvre in the market and for Gyokeres, gets his preferred destination.

To be fair I didn’t say we didn’t, Doug stuck to his guns well again if what being reported is true which must be stressed.

I still think it was a lot and can see why Vik thought it was a lot. If I was Lisbon I would have prob bought someone in on loan and then in 6 months agreed a deal for him to join for free next season. Yes granted you run the risk of having other clubs in for him but Vik was very keen on going there and so it would have taken a big offer from another club. I know sporting have just sold a player for a lot of money but they don’t have the Tv income like the prem have so that needs to go further and they need to invest wisely.

At the end of the day we are entitled to ask what we want for him im not disputing that. The fact they’ve just sold a player for 40/50 million has no bearing on what Viks worth. As I said just in another post that 40/50 million to them has to be invested wisely they don’t have the same income as top division English prem sides. They are like us really but on a bigger scale buying young players for cheap(relatively) and selling them on for bigger fees. So 20 mil is a lot to fork out for them and a gamble.

It’s a great deal for us without a doubt considering he could have gone there or anywhere in Europe for free and that would be sorted in 6 months time. I take your point about a prem team but all the noises were vik didn’t want to go to the prem to sit on the bench.

Exactly. The supplier can value him as they want.
The buyer can offer what they want.

Where they agree is the value.

As such Vik's value is £20m. Doug King was spot on to ask for that

Doug played it right told them to pay up or he would walk and talk to others more serious. And if they don't pay he will not be back because he told them he was prepared for Vik to stay at the club. He was dealing from a position of strength, because he set the rule from the start. The sell on clause will be decent and his buy out clause will be in the high millions

Now the squad can focus on themselves and work towards going one better than last season. Best of luck to Vik, got what he wanted probably learnt a bit from this a long the way and his success will be ours no matter where it takes him.

I see it as just another day on SBT.

Not too long ago we spoke about how much he would sell for. I said 18m to 20m but could be more depending on who was involved. A lot on here said it was well too much for a player with only a year left on his contract and we would get much less.

A week or so later Gyokeres got interviewed. He said he thought we were asking for too much. Just saying what a lot of us had been saying. Then some on here turned on him for him saying exactly what they had said themselves.

The valuation was not impacted by Sporting’s sales, the point there was that we were negotiating a price we knew the potential buyer could afford. If we had an extra year on Gyokeres’ contract we could’ve priced teams out of move if we wanted too - which obviously wasn’t an option.

From Sporting’s perspective, they probably wanted to avoid free agency market themselves.

Given the recent success of Championship strikers making the grade in the Premiership, £20.5 million is good deal for a perspective buyer irrespective of contract length. My hope is that we have a sell-on % and Gyokeres earns another big money move.

Getting £20million+ and that sell on clause made it an offer we couldn’t refuse if the sell on is what has been said 35% that’s potentially huge for us and Sporting do sell, Vik bangs the goals in the big European clubs will be hovering.

100m Euros release clause according to that! Been a fan of Vik's from the start, and if his value climbs to that level it would no doubt bring us a nice bonus, but it seems like an absurd figure to me.
