While legend is an over-used word it (and hero) comes in many shapes and sizes. We love players like Oggy for their longevity, loyalty and performances over and over again and someone like Houchen for a moment in time in 87 and players of our youth like Ian Wallace and Hutch who were my heroes in my teenage years and then those who were clearly superstars like Robbie Keane. For me Vik is someone who made a huge and unforgettable impact when we really needed a talisman to take us onwards. He delivered, we loved him. Legend, hero - up for discussion and who cares ? Thanks Vik and good luck

Always been longevity in my eyes. Appreciate peoples input over any term but the ones that stick are the longer stays. Robbie Keane was the best player I ever saw in a City kit but never seen him as a legend

He wasn’t with us long enough to be a legend but was head and shoulders above Vik as a striker.

Played a pivotal role in putting us back on the map, along with others.
Two phenomenal seasons and going for 20x what we got him for. Revolutionises the club, financially speaking. Can’t say fairer than that.

A great deal all round. Sporting get a player who will score lots of goals, Gyokeres gets the move he wanted and we get enough money to make a big difference to our squad.

Gyokeres is my little boys first football hero. He will be following the rest of his career. And considering most of his opponents will be about League 2 level or lower he should do very well.

Thanks for the memories Viktor and making my little boy so happy. Good luck in the rest of your career.

Can anyone explain what being a cuckold actually means? Is it when your wife leaves you? Mine is still here.

Absolutely clueless. Have you ever had an opinion on here that wasn’t utter bollocks? They’re not paying 24m for him to be second choice. They’d have thoroughly scouted him so know all of his strengths and weaknesses. I think their scouts, coaches etc know more about how he will fit their style than you do

He won't be the main man like he is here. There will be an awful lot of pressure on him, something he never really had here.

But he won't be the main man like he is here. They've got two very good wingers. Will be interesting to see how he fits in because I'm not sure they'll play direct through him like we did.

As I've mentioned above, if you've watched him play for Sweden, you'll know what I mean.

Players come and go. Vik has been tremendous over the past couple of seasons. His style of play and not just his goals have been exciting to watch.

When a player leaves you never know how we are ever going to replace them but we always do. For a change we have his replacement in before he leaves and it's an exciting signing in Simms who I have high hopes for. The King is dead long live the King. (Pardon the pun!)

Thanks for the fantastic memories Vik and for getting me out of my seat on so many occasions.

The big Swede's not on our side
Plays for Sporting in green and white
Scoring goals is what he does best
and he goes by the name of Gyokeres.

I'd say compared to some we've had who have been classed as legends, Keano was pretty close, regardless of time spent here. Jarni was here for less but spoken about far more often.

And as for Vik's status, he's still a rough diamond and could be frustrating at times. But he was definitely quality, just in a different manner. Could you genuinely compare Vik and Quinny ? Both strikers, one played 100 times for us, the other 65. One is legend, the other is leaving for SL. Keane only played 30 times (a third of Vik's games and half of Quinnys) yet I'd say he fulfilled the duties of a legend and would put both of the other two in his shadow.

Keanes departure was the start of our demise. If I remember rightly he left at the start of a season leaving a massive void in our strike force. We rushed into bringing Bellendamy in and expected him as a left sided midfield in the championship to play as a striker and take over where keane left off in the prem. It didnt work , the goals dried up and we sunk like a stone. At least with Vik going now, we have a few weeks to bed the new look side together.

Keane left a bit earlier than that I think but Bellamy was signed at the last minute. McAllister was the one we really missed.

Let's have a think about it.

@KenilworthSkyBlue is completely missing.
@SBT is praising the deal and hoping no one calls him out on the cuckold behaviour so long as he plays along and acts like it was always what he was going for.

Two weeks ago both were arrogantly telling others we would be business stupid to not take the first offer. We've since added about 7 million to that by simply knowing our and Gyökeres' value.

We could also go at @fernandopartridge and @shmmeee but I have a bit more respect for them so happy to leave them out of it for now.

Page 65-80 of this thread are absolute gold. It's bedwetting heaven. I would advise anyone to go and review before some of those posts get inevitably deleted.

At the end of the day we should have had a bit more respect for Gyökeres and how much he would be appreciated for other clubs. His development alone could now fund a proper squad that could get us to the PL. Shame on anyone who was willing to sell him at the first offer. I'll never take them seriously again.

Are you upset that he has chosen to leave and looks like getting his preferred move?

To me he wasn't our stand out main man. Hamer is the one who makes us tick. They struck up a good partnership. Gyokeres needs someone to take some of the pressure. Two good wingers? Just what he needs. He won't have to do it all alone.

Mcallister was a brilliant example of a captain. I remember when he was injured during a game and had to go off, but before he did he went around to each player geeing them up to get the best out of them.

Vik has been incredible for us and at times dragged the team singlehandedly up the table I will miss watching hime play but I am excited to mix up our style of play a bit more as we were having to be slightly more one dimensional towards the end of the season. I didn't like his posturing in the media but given the price it looks we will get for him that will be forgotten quickly. I hope he continues to be a massive success.

How did we do against Luton once Hamer got injured?

I'm not like many others on here trying to downplay hiw good Gyokeres is. But I'm also not going to ignore how important Hamer is to us.

Would we have got as far as we did last season without Hamer? Without him we would have struggled to even get past Middlesbrough.

No, I'm glad we've sold him at that money.

It's very easy to forget just how much £20m is, even more so for a player who has a year left of his contract and just two good seasons as a Championship player.

I'm not trying to slate him but it's fine to recognise his weaknesses, especially at that price. There were games where he couldn't hit a barn door. Will never forget Derby away last season. Or even Reading at home a few months back.

Brilliant player and servant, for the winter period post-O'Hare, he was a one man team for us.

Keane was a wonderful short term luxury. Vik was a pleasant surprise who we have made an absolute killing from. Hamer for me has the makings of a legend. Fadz an absolute warhorse I would start to put into legend status. Across the years, Hutchinson, Regis, oggy, Peake, Dublin, Shaw, Huckerby, Speedie, McSheff

Who knows how he'll get on? It's just opinions from people who are just pissing in the wind.

He might excell with the pressure and go from strength to strength for all we know.

I hope he becomes world class, I wish him all the best, and think Sporting have got one hell of a player.

He was class for us and carried us (along with Hamer) for most of the season. He could of insisted on going in January, but stayed and took us to within a penalty kick of reaching the promised land, and left us with enough money to rebuild and push on.

Thank you Vik, and the very best of luck for the future.

No one does, that's why I'm happy for people to laugh at me if he scores 35 goals for Sporting and plays in the Europa League final. I really hope he does that because the value will go through the roof.
