And now he has an injury requiring surgery.

I'm not trying to be a doom-monger here, but a knee operation isn't something people can just ignore.

Basing our transfer window activity on the sale of a player owned by a 3rd party is seriously flawed in the first place. Hopefully that isn’t the case.

Lots of doom at the gyok 6 week injury news.
You could look at the injury in another way too ie sorting out any particular niggles before a medical is done for a transfer.
Glass half full or half empty scenario.

Hopefully just a washout for a bit of debris, microsurgery by keyhole. I had it done 20+ years ago, no trouble with it since……………the other ones a different story

It's a minor op with a 5-6 week recovery period - it's not going to stop any transfers.

Also, he posted ridiculous numbers despite playing in pain for a few months - imagine what he can now do fully fit!

minor surgery and recovering during the euros when everyone will be concentrating on that. He has just had a dream season and our transfer policy shouldn’t be based on a player who isn’t even ours.

Would you chance 100 million euros on a player who's just undergone knee surgery, without waiting to confirm the outcome?

He’s out for 5-6 weeks, which takes us to the start of July.

“Knee surgery” covers all variety of sins.

ACL reconstruction- obviously not.

Minor cleanup job- much less of a concern.

If the recovery is only six weeks you’d expect him to be fully fit again in July. They’d do a comprehensive medical too.

It may slow down any deal, but it's reported the operation on his left knee was on tuesday. The issue is stated as "dealing with a meniscus problem, coupled to some weakness in the lateral ligament".
It's not a major issue.
Hopefully, he'll be back fully fit and ready for a big fee transfer ASAP!

I hope (and expect) he'll be fit and raring to go in July. The only point I'm making is that such things can't be 100% guaranteed in the way people are assuming. Potential buyers won't just gloss over it.

I agree but they’ll cover all that in a medical. It sounds like it’s just something minor….hopefully!

not the end of the world. but certainly not good news.
any money from him being sold should be seen as a bonus anyway. it shouldn't be our whole recruitment strategy for this summer.

No operation is without risks. I can't see a club could sign a player until an operation had been shown to be successful especially for the sums that Gyokeres woukd go for.

Sounds like a standard nip and tuck on the cartilage. The only way he was likely to have been sold before the Euros was if Sweden had qualified. Get him fixed before other clubs’ doctors start sucking their teeth about his knees resulting in lower offers.

It’ll be something relatively minor. If it was something more sinister it’d get picked up in the medical.

Wasn't he also playing through the pain barrier in the last few months of the 22/23 season?

Is there a case for hoping he signs a new deal with Sporting that involves a higher release clause and a bigger future payout for us, even if it doesn’t come this summer?

If Sweden would have qualified for Germany, it likely does not take place.

Which is why a knee operation shouldn't concern any suitors that much. Even when he's carrying a knock he's relentless

I think it has to give any buyer at least some pause, especially with the transfer fees involved - O’Hare was similarly relentless and bullet-proof until he wasn’t.

It’s not as if no one will bid until he’s back and fully fit. All the talking will go on during that period, I’d imagine, and then a deal subject to a satisfactory medical.

Get where you’re coming from but rumour has it they’ve been wanting him to sign a new deal since about November. If he wanted to, I’d imagine he would have done so already.

Sheaf won't be sold because Vik has had an operation FFS!!

Sheaf will be sold because a team wants to pay him a lot of money (if that's the case). Viks injury and transfer (or lack of) will have no bearing on whether Sheaf leaves us or not!

hmmm, i'd like to agree. but if we do need a blob of money to spend it is likely to be a factor.

I think if Sweden had qualified, he wouldn't have waited for the surgery, and would have had it during the season. Only reason he's played on with the injury is that Sweden haven't qualified.

surely the timing suggests it's nothing serious.
you don't play on and wait for an op if it's in any way career threatening.
