Otis - we looked at the face to try and recognise him - not sure how you recognise players?

I find that nearly every match City Trialist is involved in stuff.

Can never understand why we don't sign him up.

Looks like he has tried to have a makeover and is on the run for murder or something. If you look hard it does seem to be him though.

the forward has a goal and an assist, but as for the defender!

The triallist defender, as mentioned, is not particularly big for a centre-half but is a decent ball playing defender.

The triallist centre-back has just hit a sloppy sideways pass out of play.

Andy Turner said both trialists were from Ireland

The lad put himself about well, getting into good positions in the box and his head on a couple of crosses, one going inches wide of the far post as City looked good on their first half lead.

The triallist defender was relatively small for a centre-half, more a ball player than a dominant defender, and looked reasonably solid, keeping a tight rein on his man and getting a number of challenges in.

He was also quite vocal, organising the back four throughout but didn’t quite catch the eye as much as the striker.

Coventry City development coach Jason Farndon was impressed with the club’s latest triallists as the Sky Blues look to bolster their Under-23s squad.

The Sky Blues ran the rule over West Bromwich Albion striker Evan Pierce and Aston Villa defender James Finnerty – both 19-year-old Irish lads and development players from the Premier League and Championship clubs.

I still don’t get why we are signing players to bolster the under 23 you can win 50 games in there but don’t gain a point in the league, we need a smaller better squad in the first team

It’s not to bolster the U23 squad - they would only sign players who the management believe can progress into the first team.

Hyam, Bayliss, Shipley and Ponticelli started the season there and are now with the first team every game. Also have to factor in we have lost our young players to Prem club development sides over the last year Thomas, Harries and Stevenson. Probably Bayliss this summer too. They choose the players they want and we have to settle for the ones who have been released

agree, all lower clubs rely on young talent to break through to the first team and to obviously sell on. We need to keep the long term future of the club afloat as much as the playoffs this season.

I just think if we sign 3 or 4 young ones on £500 per week but barely use them it’s a £2000 per week we could use elsewhere in the first team squad.

Will a 19 year old in L2 be on £500/week?

It's really promising that Robins/Jason Fardon is utilising the final block of U23 games to look at potential young stars that could be picked up over the next coming months once their contacts expire. Have we done this before? Seems a far more organised approach than we've witnessed in recent years if the answer is no.

Most likely Fleetwood were paying my nephew a little more than that as a first year pro and he has had a pay rise to go to Southport part time

No need we gave him a contract until he gets his next goal so it could be some time

Definitely not if they have stepped up from the youth team
A few of the more talented and in demand players may be but normally around £300 for first pro contract
