Yep.

Cock up. How did we cheat can I ask?

If incorrect it is a officials error. How did we cheat?

I thought it was harsh on grimsby for the free kick. He clearly points at the goal keeper to take the free kick and then passes it back to him.
It was laziness and over confidence but yes it was pretty clear what he was trying to do.

It looked to me that his signal to the goalkeeper was just to alert him that the ball was being played back to him. Otherwise why didn't the keeper come to the ball.

Yep. Agree.

Whatever conclusion you come to it most certainly is NOT clear cut.

Eakin alluded in the commentary that he thought the Grimsby team and management approached our bench to possibly ask for us to donate a goal back at the other end after the incident, but like I say, if Clarke was merely giving it to the keeper to take the kick it most definitely is not crystal clear in that clip.

Coventry capitalise on clanger

Here it is a little clearer. He dummies to take the free kick first and checks backs, looks at the keeper and put his left hand out to him. Rolls it back and Mcnulty nips in.

I still can't say for sure if his intention was to take the free kick or give it back to the keeper for the free kick, my guess is the latter but its not important. By the letter of the law the referee had no choice but to give the goal

We obviously didn't. It's a horrible way to concede but the referee, and McNulty, played to the rules. If McNulty, the referee, the assistant, their keeper (who also reacted to try to stop McNulty) thought it was taken then it probably was. I understand where Grimsby fans are coming from as it's a crap way to concede a goal but to say our player cheated is a bit stupid. It's a bit like saying 2 of their players cheated because they fouled our players when through on goal and got away with it.
Let's be honest, if anyone can complain about the referee's decisions today it's us. We won in spite of him, not because of. Dreadful.

Maybe the goal was a donation for the penalties we should have had?

Assuming Grimsby didn't intend the ball to be in play when Clarke kicked it back, the keeper would have then had to pick the ball up, and place it in the correct place to take the kick, leaving them open to the ref interpreting that the free kick had already been taken and the keeper had handled outside the area. Schoolboy error if that is the case surely. Normally when the ref has moved upfield after awarding a free kick, that's the signal for the player over the ball to take the kick, otherwise who is supervising that it is being taken from the correct place?

I went to Dunfermline for a pre-season friendly when toss-pot Coleman was in charge and we were really shit. It seemed to be a well run club with a great emphasis on attracting younger fans, if we lived close I would have got my son involved. They seem to have fallen on bad times recently and hopefully those days are behind them

I went to a pre-season friendly at East End Park a few years ago... Lets just say it was Dunfermline v West Ham and Geoff Hurst scored a hat-trick. Bobby Moore came in for some fairly robust abuse too.
It was an enjoyable experience despite the anti-english nature of the crowd chants !

To be fair, on their thread about the goal no-one has said we cheated. In fact, the majority say that the goal should stand.

Whatever Clarke intended to do is irrelevant. It's his own fault for making his kick ambiguous to everyone. He should have thrown it to the keeper if he wanted the keeper to take it. Shit decision making by Clarke and not the fault of the ref.

But on the other threads......

We have been accused of playing dirty, diving, rolling around for no reason and more. Some have said we were shit and we think we are better than we are. Quite funny at times.

Before the game I said Slade never has a plan B and his plan A doesn't work for half the time. Got a lot of stick for it. Said our defence and midfield is quite solid so they would end up playing the high ball. Got a lot of stick for that too. After the game they said about having a crap plan of the long ball to a short player. Playing a lone striker at home. I pointed it out that they disagreed with me before the game but it went like I said. They disagreed with me again

Oh the fun of trying to have a debate with people that can't remember what they said 10 minutes previously.

I certainly didn't see any rolling around, and they took one of our players out through on goal and just about to score twice with no penalty. The way they kept hacking away at Jones, particularly first half, with little punishment was awful too. Could easily have been injured. If anyone's tactics were slightly underhand it was there's. I think we'll get a lot of it this year.

Did any of you see what Eakin alluded to? He said one of their players stamped on Jodi Jones.

Yeah, after Jones was fouled. Certainly looked that way but was opposite end of the pitch.

If you look at the photos on the telegraph player ratings web page Liam Kelly clearly has blood coming through his sock on his ankle, both Notts and Grimsby have tried kicking us off the park but for a change, we're better at it.

Doyle did roll around at times, even holding head once when it wasn't that bad a collision. And kelly did the same so I'll give them that

But it's one of them things in football; hate it when it's against you but love it when it's your players getting away with it

Yeah Doyle slowed the game down. Then again their players caused 7 minutes of added time.

No problem here. She wouldn't have married me if she didn't have a SOH. And it is also true. My wife is very intelligent and thick at the same time.

Once we were away with lots of friends sitting around a camp fire. Someone cracked a joke. We were all in hysterics....except for my wife. We just couldn't stop laughing. The next night we were around the camp fire again. Suddenly the wife was in hysterics. 'Wassup Vik' said one of our friends. When she calmed down she said she just got the joke from the night before

With our first goal, I had no idea what was happening at the time I looked up to see McNulty rounding the keeper...

Having seen the replay it more points to the keeper. His response is to challenge for the ball says the ball has become active and puts to bed the theory Clarke was moving the position of the ball to take the free kick. If he'd of stood with his arms up saying what's McNulty doing ref then they would of had grounds to appeal but the keepers response was the balls active.

Anyway a better 2nd half performance with that luck to shift us on our way to give us the momentum to take the game.

Great win, great following!

Anyone seen footage of the 'stonewall' Vincenti penalty incident?

If so, does it confirm everyone's first impression?

Good point. I think its pretty conclusive that the keeper wasn't expecting to take the free kick, whatever Clarke's intention was.

Looking forward to seeing this myself. Surely if he hit the ball it's a goal, he was stopped from striking the ball so had to be a pen
