My dad bought my mom a retirement farm some years back before he passed away (and he chose to be buried there).
The farm has grown as a retirement community for 8 horses now. Not all neglected, abused horses end up at the glue factory. They just spend their days munching and chilling. One has been rehabilitated as a show horse, too. I don't have strong feelings towards horses, but she adores everyone.

Quid each-way on Alvarado, so get something back.

Won on the 100-1 bet a few years ago that came in, which was nice.

Was pissed off as well when I got it in the Sweepstake, but always put a quid each way on sweep horse(just in case!)!

With out a racing life would it have existed in the first place?
Welfare is important. But running and jumping is what horses do. A bit like my two dogs they love a good romp.

Football players die whilst playing. Should it be banned?

Had 1st and 5th each way. Winner taken with corals 13:23 at 28/1 and wife had 4th e/w at 33/1.

I had a bet with myself that you'd be on here after the race saying what winning bets you had.

Was odds on though, so not paying myself much.

I usually end up losing but after considering the winner while picking. This year I didn't even see the winner's name come up, so I didn't even hypothetically come close. I did spot on PaddyPower that you can bet on Wrestlemania too, which I thought was a joke but then bookies were taking bets on who shot Phil Mitchell so it's kind of the same. None will take my bet that Hollyoaks will fail to hire a single competent actor in 2014 though.

And I would have got even shorter odds on you replying with an obnoxious post as usual.

So are you trying to say I didn't get the winner E/W and 5th place?

my very skint son who is at Uni won £166 on the winner with the money I put on for him

I had £20 on Battle Group the horse that refused to bloody start ,I got my money back that's all , I'd rather he started and came last as I had no enjoyment watching the race without my chosen horse in it

Just wondering if Hill and Grendel are going to comment on the 103 footballers who have died during matches? Since they thought Astute's comment was ridiculous.

Fair play to your lad. That will buy him a few tinnies. Trust a student to choose a horse whose name is a bottle of wine

Of course they won't. You also have no end of players crippled from playing. Rugby is even worse.

Still waiting for another obnoxious reply from Lord as usual. Where have they gone

So you are saying footballers are forced against their natural instincts to go on a football pitch?

As I said the most stupid post ever seen on this forum.

I wonder if they are vegetarians. Or is it OK to eat animals but not partake in sports?

Most horses love racing. If they didn't why do they get back up and continue running and jumping the fences?

Compared to 1,089 deaths since 1997 and footballers of course are in charge of their own destiny and are not forced to take the field of play.

Brilliant statistic that.

Thanks Astute, he works two nights a week in a music bar/pub in London ,The Dublin Castle in Camden ,which just about covers his food/electric, the £166 he won is more that three weeks work for him so I am sure he will treat himself and his girlfriends to a night out somewhere nice

Forced to run?

See my post below yours. And ask Rev if you can force a horse to run. His didn't want to. So it didn't

Horses aren't forced onto the race track. You have obviously never ridden a horse. Race horses are looked after better than most privately owned horses. Let's face it a lot of them are worth more than our entire squad.

But I will qualify something. Safety standards have improved at Aintree with many fences being reduced. Probably further improvements can be made. But that's the same with most things in life.

Are you in favour of banning Rugby in schools like researcher who was on the radio recently?

I'm not fussed about horses, but dead footballers seems an odd comparison to bring up. We didn't kill Dave Busst after all.

I doubt very much that you did.

Tell you what, before every match/race that is mentioned on here why don't you mention your bet before the result for a change?

Though to be fair you did give your predictions before the result on the Higgs case and whether an appeal to the JR would be allowed.

Not really. A few say horse racing should be banned as some die doing what they love. Some footballers die doing what they love. Maybe not as many but it happens.

More people die in road accidents than horses die racing. Shall we try to ban cars next?

Is your mouth big enough to have a bet for charity? If I can't prove the bet I said you win. Will give you the same amount for yourself. So as you are so sure as usual how does £500 sound? The amount that Grendel says he gives to charity out of his six figure salary.

Horses weren't born to race they do it because they are trained to do so. Like you were trained from an early age to follow Ccfc. Horses don't have the options of a boycott because they don't like the people in charge.

Thankfully no horse deaths this year but that is again more due to luck than anything else. Wonder how many of today's lineup will have a premature death and end up in the food chain?

Are you saying that they don't enjoy racing?

And if you are so against it what do you think of meat eating people? Do you see it as OK to breed animals to eat them? We don't need to.

Straight to the point as usual

You missed out fish though. How's the fishing going? Meat with every dinner in my house if not fish. Them poor little lambs Always try to hunt down a nice horse steak when in France. Fresh roadkill is a must. As long as it wasn't hit too hard.

The difference is quite clear. Footballers aren't forced to play football or shot in the head if they break a leg. But you know this already. The comparison was what made his comment ridiculous, but then you already knew that too.
