A big cm , to really take a game by the scruff of the neck ?
We have money in the kitty , so let’s make a statement signing ?

i’d imagine we won’t make any permanent signings this window

We need legs in midfield i believe so a CM player that will put himself about will be great at this point

Probably the sensible thing to do. We are still the favourites to go up and we’re unlikely to sign many players who will be good enough for the Prem while still in the Champ.

Unless we went all in, like a Le Fee signing for Sunderland. Agree it's unlikely (unaffordable?) though.

Who have we been linked with, Neil and O'Nien? I suppose it's possible we'd look at a combative centre-mid next if we are still after more players, especially if Andrews gets loaned out.

I honestly think Andrews has a part to play this season, he’s looked very assured when he’s come on and reminds me a bit of Jude Bellingham in the way he plays

I think he’ll be a cracking talent with the right management

I like the look of him too, just not sure Lampard sees him high enough up the order to get many minutes. I think if we bring another CM in it's going to be someone to compete with our first choices and possibly give us something different to what we have. Id not be too surprised if we dont sign anyone further at all though.

Agreed. A PL CM loan would be ideal.

We need more power in midfield to dominate teams more, just lately we have been out of sorts in the engine room because Grimes is having to do it nearly all himself, Eccles is ok but not a top dominating modfielder and Torp keeps being injured. If we want to try and get promoted in style it needs addressing somewhat

2 loan signings are a good start, but that's not the investment we were expecting in this window, so I'd still expect a statement signing to arrive soon. Hopefully a CM such as Dan Neil from Sunderland, that would give us cover for Grimes, as well as competition/cover for Torp.

shame as he’s good enough to add something to the team currently, but conversely a loan might be better for him in terms of his development, depending on where he goes

I wouldn’t be surprised either way to be honest

Who uses him a bit more.
He's not taking the space in the squad currently is he?

Given Kai Andrews could possibly be going on loan and we don't l ow what the situation is with Jamie Allen I'm expecting to see recruitment in this area

I rate him as well but don't think he's been given enough minutes for us this season and would have been better getting out on loan.

Normal starters are Grimes, Torp & Rudoni.

Rudoni's has cover with Eccles & BTA when fit.

Jamie Allen & Eccles are covering Torp/Grimes.

To me, it feels light and I would like one more in there.

Yes we need cm.
Dasilva, MVE and Yang Min-Hyeok all lack them.

on the subject of Sunderland, I’d love us to look at Denis Cirkin, he’s apparently available and although he’d cost a bit I do think he’s got the quality if we do go up

Cirkin and JDS at LB would sort that position

agree... our midfield has been non-existent the last few games, now Grimes is getting doubled up on, Torp missing and Rudoni not up to speed, the amount of times we let ourselves down in the middle 3rd is huge.

Loan not a perm though

Allen has a niche role that he does well, he just isn’t a profile of player that will come off the bench and change the tide of a game to get us a goal.

He’s good at shoring up the midfield when we’re in winning positions.

Feels harsh... but when he came on, on Sunday, it felt like his role was to immediately give the ball to the adults.

Maybe I'll see him in a different light on Saturday... be surprised if he's not starting.

If we’re going to sign a permanent CM it needs to be someone who is a guaranteed PL starter and can hit the ground running - with 20 games left we don’t have the luxury of waiting five or six games for them to get up to speed. I don’t see the point of a permanent backup who will be obsolete in 20 games’ time.

A loan or short-term contract could be merited if we let one of our existing backups leave, but would they really be better than what we’ve already got?

It’s true though. He’s a promising player but that doesn’t mean he’s good enough for us to trust him in big games.

A loan is best for all parties involved and we need extra support to guarantee success this season.

If they’re better than what we have then there’s a point. Who is talking about a backup? We need a player who can do what Torp does for the half a season he’s not fit at least.

Dan Neil never made sense to me on a permanent. It’s effectively a 6 month loan and back in the toy box.

Various people over the past few weeks have talked about a backup.

I’m all for splashing the cash on CCFC 2.0 but unless they’re going to make an impact from the jump then I think there’s limited benefit to doing it now rather than in the summer.

What is 2.0? You’re overthinking things. We should attract the best players we can.
