Isaías moved to England with Coventry City for £500.000, signing a two-year contract and becoming the first Brazilian to ever play in the Premier League.[1][5] He featured in just 14 competitive matches for the Sky Blues over a period of two seasons, due to differences with manager Gordon Strachan and his refusal to cancel his contract after no compensation would be paid.

Obviously remember him playing a few matches but don’t remember him leaving and what it was all about etc. Did he fall out with Strachan then?

Only 14 games with us ? Wow, honestly thought it was longer, unless I was confusing him with Jose Perdomo. I remember his ability to place the ball anywhere. Shook most of the regulars up as they weren't used to pinpoint accurate passing

We only had Perdomo for a month on loan didn't we?

I remember Isias. He never tracked back at anything more than a dawdle. Probably why he didn't make it over here as a midfield player.

I remember a midweek fixture down at the bridge. The shed was under redevelopment and visiting supporters were housed in the bottom tier of their triple decker stand (West stand?)
Pretty certain he and Ndlovu got the goals in a well deserved 2-2.
*Please let this be right - I haven't checked!
Adge, you were there in a car of 5 of us.

If that’s the game I’m thinking of we were 2-0 down at half time? We got there at half-time and the guy on the turnstile said we shouldn’t bother as it was already 2-0! As we’d just driven down from Cov we went in anyway. And 2-2. If it was the game I’m thinking of...

Isaias was a talent and could measure a pass to the inch. I thought Strachan was pretty useless as a manager.

He was superb against... Man City, I think? soon after signing.

Then again, so was Paul Telfer

A tenner it was to get Isaias 8 on the back of that Pony shirt. He owes me at least a free starter now

Who was there the following year August 1996? Chelsea 2 Coventry 0.

From memory the opening Chelsea goal was scored directly after a blatant foul against us; seen by everyone in the stadium except of course the officials. Even Chelsea looked embarrassed that it was allowed to stand.

I heartily and loudly joined in with the chants of: 'on the pitch, on the pitch' as I was surrounded by the 'Coventry Lads'.......inwardly praying it didn't happen as I'm absolutely certain that the 'Chelsea Lads' would have met us on there with some interest.

I remember at the West End of the ground him unleashing a pile driver of a shot which skimmed the crossbar and struck an unsuspecting copper who was dealing with a bit of an incident right at the side of his helmet, he wasn’t very happy but even his colleagues were giggling.

Sounds painful, not surprised he wasn’t laughing.

On a side note, I don’t think I’ve used the word ‘helmet’ in that context since I was about 15.

I would say that with the budget that Big Ron had - he completely blew it.

And yeah I did totally imagine that.
The biggest spender in every PL season - and how they fared - Football365

Think what I was remembering was this article in the Coventry Telegraph, an interview with BR in which he says “When Ron Atkinson took over as manager we backed his judgement with #20million for players. At the time we were the big spenders in the Premiership”.

BR - exclusive interview

Makes interesting reading as it goes.
