The tragic thing is that godden despite huge limitations played the isolated striker role far better than Simms or Bassette

Simms scored 19 goals last season. How many did Godden score?

When Simms has chances to score, he usually buries them. Since Wright has got injured I can’t recall too many shots a striker has had in the box from open play. BTA today and Bassette v Pompey for the opener?

All our evils in attack stem from the midfield and their inability to move the ball through opposition shapes. Just compare how easily Norwich moved the ball past our midfield (in all 3 fixtures this season and the last) compared to what we see our lots does this season.

When you struggle to create big chances, it really doesn’t help when your defence can expect to concede 2 goals a game.

Nine out of 46 games, half of which were against sides that were relegated or are flirting with it this season.

More than Godden whether you look at it in all competitions or just the league.

Comparing all our strikers:

Godden - scored in 7 games, 5 league games

Simms - scored in 12 games, 9 league games

Haji Wright scored in 15 games, 12 league games

Not sure why you’d discount the FA Cup either where both Wright and Simms scored v Man U and Wolves.

The key caveat here is that Godden and Wright are penalty takers so if you only included open play goals, Simms probably tops the list.

When you look at his minutes per goals, it’s 195 minutes per goal. Which is similar to Haji Wright whom you state is our best player. Again, Haji has scored 4 penalties for us.

Something to ponder, how do you think Haji would get on if Lampard decided to rotate him and EMC every other game and he was limited to 20-30m appearances?

Haji has a 5 game drought where people were on his back before following it up with a goal scoring streak before his injury.

Same with EMC, looked useless when limited to 10-30m here and there.

No he didn't. He was an intelligent player, just as Waghorne was. But neither had the legs to be effective in the last few seasons.

Just answering a question I was asked. I knew this before MR went.

I don't think it's some post Robins agenda. I can see why he was a fan of them, whether or not they fit on balance of the current squad is another question. The same is currently being questioned for all signings though.

Godden would of hit the target from 5yards out unlike BTA who’s shot was closer to the corner flag than the goal

He missed a great opportunity to get us promoted v Luton at Wembley. Our best move and chance of the match in the dying minutes of normal time. Fell to the right player and he put it over the bar.

All this so and so would have scored that chance is complete pub talk bollocks

It’s valuable information because the narrative from the fans is to say all the bad players we’ve signed were because of King/Austin. The manager obviously has a say on who they bring in even if that manager had taken a step back of the day-to-day recruitment process.

Many fans just wanted to absolve Robins from any blame for our issues.

BTA would probably turn out to be a good signing if we actually start him upfront. We signed him to be a striker, yet we end up playing on the wing.

One game and he missed one chance. When Bassette missed absolute sitters v Swansea and Boro, no was saying he should never play for us again.

BTA missed the sitter, played reasonably well aside that and it’s not his fault we conceded 2 goals to lose the game.

You watch us against a team like Norwich other playoff/auto teams and you can see that our midfield is just not playoff standard. The better teams in the league play through our press and keep the ball better than us.

Yeah, I try to steer clear of that whole Robins / King / Austin debate.

I hear things about behind the scenes, but again, the people I hear them from have their own opinions and nothing comes without agenda.
On that situation, ultimately i think all must take share of the blame.

I can see why all signings were made, I just think not getting the other players we were in for, left us glaringly inexperienced.
A few good signings could change all that again.

I agree on BTA. He has been mostly asked to do a job in an unfamiliar position. I think he's so keen to impress that he's panicking at crucial times. The same could be said for most.
The forward players have taken a lot of flack for the undoings in midfield.

Certain people choose a player to hate on and then zone in on them, looking to make them at fault for everything that is wrong with the team. They have tunnel vision and cannot see the good work they do, whilst making excuses for others.
I think you're a good poster, you clearly understand football.

Yeah, but why are we even talking about this? The endless whataboutery and finger pointing on here. 2 frees(ish) and a cheap striker totalling maybe £2m less than a tenth of the profit we made on Gyokeres? They might be the current boo boys but we could probably get our money back on all three. The squad needed numbers - what else was available for the money? People massively underestimate the scale of the rebuild since playoffs. You take the odd punt. Maybe Doug overspent, maybe some Robins/Austin signings didn't work out and need to be replaced. That happens. It has always happened, it always will happen.

In fairness to BTA he has only had bit parts to play in games. He hasn't had a decent run to find his form.

There is a decent player in there, he has weaknesses but we haven't brought the best out of him yet.

His form is poor, but he proved at WBA he is a better player than we have seen.

It’s been needlessly toxic in my view and there seems to be a briefing war against King with some of the ITK info conveniently released 5-6 months after it supposedly happened.

Specifically, the Lewin saga and cost cutting measure hiring Carr, Boateng, Dempster and Delaney. Which does t pass a basic logic test of why would King sabotage Robins by hiring cheap coaches to undermine him? The cost of sacking MR, paying off staff, hiring Lampard and his entourage would more expensive than just hiring Lewin.

Tangent aside, the areas we’re weakest in is the areas we haven’t recruited in for a while. Bar Torp, all the midfielders we have (CMs) have been with us since Day 1 of the Championship and in defence where we only made Binks a permanent signing.

I’ll keep repeating it, but serious investment in the midfield and defence and we’ll be back on top as well as getting our injured players back in the side.

I agree. I think whatever little bits of information people get, comes with an agenda from those passing it on. That's my reasoning for not always sharing everything I hear.

The whole coaching situation was a shambles. Nobody truly knows what went on there, but I don't see the point in everyone going on about it constantly. I hear people at games constantly discussing the Robins situation and feeling the need to bring it up, pitting him against Lampard and taking swipes.
I just think what's done is done, move on. Lampard is charge now, back him in the window. Credit where it's due, he seems to be trying new things with what he has, but he deserves to bring in his own players before being judged.

Agree on the midfield and defence. It's been a glaringly obvious problem for a while. The midfield needs a better variety. We desperately need a Hamer type player in there, who was incredibly unselfish in his approach. Playing for each other is what gets a team up the table. I don't see that currently.

Personally, I could see a scenario where Robins may have felt threatened to hire a hot shot number 2. Why he’d feel insecure I’m not so sure.

Lampard will do well in the long term. In the grand scheme of things, it takes months to get a team fully ready to play your tactical way and he’s still figuring out his best players. Getting Haji and EMC is a big start, but then adding to the areas we currently need is the next step.

If we can have a good window and solid end to the season, we can be optimistic going into the 25/26 season.

Think it was 2, Wimbledon in the cup and Ipswich in the league

I still find it baffling he wasn’t one of the first 4 penalty takers vs Man Utd

With Wright close to return, getting EMC back and adding some new signings, I'm sure the mood will lift eventually.

It's been a turbulent season. We are in desperate need of some stability on the pitch. Hopefully once Lampard figures out his best 11, he sticks with it and we can build.

A good end to the season is a must. Being a Coventry City fan is never easy, I'll always remain optimistic.

The sooner we get those two in the line up and some big signings,

It needs to be back to basics for Lampard. Back to 4-2-3-1 with solid back 4, perhaps Allen in midfield again ready to re-integrate Wright and EMC in the team.

He needs to stick with one striker and that has to be Simms. At least until Wright and EMC return.
