He's still has more pace than Harry Kane.

Ipswich away too. The last game before the League was suspended.

Don’t really care how much the undisclosed fee is, I think it’s a great transaction from our end. Another player off the wage bill and gives us an extra bit of wiggle room for future signings.
With all respect to Godden, it’s nice to see the club getting rid of what’s not needed and then hopefully bringing in what is needed in order for us to progress.

Good luck to him. If I'm not mistaken , the oldest players in our squad are now Ben Wilson and Jamie Allen? The rest are mere youths

Great player for what he’s done and helped us up the leagues.
One of my sons favourite players, he’s watched the 50 goals video loads, all the best to him!

Gone.

We can confirm that striker Matty Godden has joined Charlton Athletic.
32-year-old Godden joins the Addicks following agreement of an undisclosed fee between the two Clubs.
The Sky Blues would like to place on record its thanks and appreciation to Matty for his service to the Club since joining in 2019 from Peterborough United.
Godden played 156 games for Coventry City and scored 50 goals, putting him 21st in the Club’s all-time top scorers.
After joining in August 2019, Matty got 14 goals in 26 games to help fire the Sky Blues to the 2019/20 League One title.
He netted City’s first goal back in the Championship, and would continue to feature regularly for the Sky Blues in the second tier of English football – including playing a key role as City reached the Championship Play-Off Final in 2022/23, plus reaching the FA Cup Semi-Final in 2023/24.
Matty has been an exemplary professional both on and off the pitch and everyone at Coventry City wishes him the best of luck for the future.
Manager Mark Robins said:
“Matty has made a significant contribution to our rise up the leagues, including being integral to our League One title win and then establishing ourselves in the Championship.
“He will be fondly remembered by Sky Blues supporters for many years to come for what he has achieved here, and we wish him the best of luck for the future.”
Owner and Executive Chairman Doug King said:
“Matty has been a fantastic servant to Coventry City and an important part of the Club’s journey. He is an exemplary professional and we wish him the very best for the future.”

Would he even pass a medical after his heart issues from last pre-season?

We don't get out of L1 without him

He scored 50 goals for the club, and some of them were real quality

It got a bit sour last year but I think he goes with our best wishes as a fanbase. Great player overall for Coventry City

Absolutely. The difference is stark. Clear indication of an issue. Godden leaving because he wants more game time is no different to Adi leaving for other pursuits, if that was the case.

It's really not

Any way there is a thread for Adi take the chemtrails shite over there and leave this one for people who talk about someone who helped us get up and stay up.

Huge part of our journey. Although the time was right for him to move on I feel quite sad about it.

Godden deserves a lot of praise for his part in our rise to the Championship. One of the most natural finishers I remember us having, I'd rather the ball drop to him in the 6 yard box than pretty much anyone we have had in the last decade.

Last season I think the pace caught up with him a bit. Must have been a nightmare for him coming on to replace Simms or Wright as they are completely different styles of players. Set up to support him and he'll bag loads in League 1 I'm sure.

The prevalence of posters going off topic is crazy here, though. Pick thine battles.

I’ll just get f**ked in preparation for your reply.

Serious note , one of my favourite strikers here over the last decade atleast ..
Obviously vik was better , but I think for the sheer volume of important goals in that promotion season , especially during the last couple months against the best teams in the league meant this club were promoted back to the championship and he should be forever remembered for his part In that .

Far worse players who did far less here should never be remembered in the same light

Seeing as we may get a Thursday or Friday night game soon, does anyone want to organise a boat trip to see Matty play at the Valley?

I have been critical of him recently but overall what a great servant to the club he's been. I've rarely been so confident in a striker to put away chances and penalties, and he scored some big goals for us. That early strike vs Sunderland to take us top of the league in the last home game before COVID is one that sticks long in the memory.

I hope he does well for Charlton, as long has his legs haven't totally gone he should still be a top quality striker at that level.

Would even a tacit nod to his contribution to our recent elevation of killed you?

Absolutely the right time for him to go, and I wish him all the best at Charlton, but, it felt weird seeing him in that top.

An absolutely crucial part of our journey and will go down as a CCFC legend for me. I still think he has lots to offer and will do really well for Charlton, I think unfortunately for him the way we play and how we set up now just doesn't suit his style of play but what a player he was for us.

Quality player in his day. Huge impact.

But i think its clear from the time he signed that new contract start of last season he was not up to scratch anymore. Although if its allowed us to recoup some money for him its probably been worth it.
