Coventry city need a giant flag/banner for home and away games.A derby fan said that theirs cost around £1800. shocker!

Can anyone think of any fundraising idea's to get one of these flags/banners?

Woah if this is actually going to happen,we'd need to do it properly. I hardly ever get to go to games but would love to be involved in getting it up and running.

1) We should probably contact the club first and see if they would a) allow it in the stadium and b) Be willing to endorse it and help raise money, possibly even put something towards it.
2) Contact the Derby fan who organised their flag. Ask for advice etc.
3) Is there anywhere in Coventry that could make something of that size? Would need to contact them and get a quote from them.
4) Fanzines (Twist n'shout, any others?) would need to be contacted to get them to endorse it as well.
5) Someone very reliable would have to be the keeper of the flag and do the maintenance and cleaning etc.
6) Only then we could start fundraising for it!

There would have to be some serious support and commitment to even get this idea started. What do people think?

Would be great if this could happen but it all depends what the rules of the stadium are im guessing they are pritty strict considering are ground is owned by the Council.

Wouldn't think that would be much of an issue as Chelsea had their massive flag flying around the away end...

There is a website that you can order custom made massive flags from but I forget what it is off the top of my head, I know Plymouth Arglye ordered their flag from there. I will ask and post the site on here see what you think.

Yeah Barmy Flags are the main one you can get flags from. I reckon if we got people to put a couple of quid in at a game sometime we would have it in no time. The club would allow it as well no problems. Would be decent to take away if we had a relatively alrite away attendance.

Anyone going to do it then. I saw we could get a few people outside the game collecting money off of fans. Just asking them to donate a bt of money. Maybe a pound or so, for the flag. Barmy flags, good site, definately get it off of there but we would need alot of people opinions on the flag. As if one person doesnt like it then there is a good chance that alot of people may not like it. So if anyone wants to help collect money before and after game, please get in contact.

actually. I found a new website where theyve done all the celtic, rangers and other big clubs flags. Top quality flags. Ive emailed him regarding the same size as the photos on it and the price it would be. But i cant remember the site off the top of my head and cant be bothered to look. Ill post on this the feedback.

Basically guys.

Ive had quotes off of a company. There are 4 different sizes.

A- 6m by 3m at £468

B- 12m by 6m at £1584

C- 10m by 4m at £1040

D- 8m by 2m at £416

Which size does everyone want. And can you please send in some of your designs so we can chose the best one.

Kind regards,

Chris

This was my Idea for the flag. Do you think it's any good. I want to take resposability for the fundraising of the flag and I am happy to buy it seeing as I recieved the quotes and everything. I'm going to get in to contact with the club to see if it's allowed and if it is, Me and friends will start the fundraising at the Coventry City vs. Leeds Utd game. Two of us will be by the tunnel under the railway if you wish to make a donation. If you also have an idea can you please upload it to this so we can take a look and we will make a decision on the best design and we ill send that off the the designers. If you wish to see what flags the company have previously designed please visit this website. -http://www.footballbanners.co.uk/crowd.html as this is the company I will be ordering the flag from.

Regards.

Chris.

I'm sure. I'm not going on our lads holiday this year. And the extra money we raise will go towards the money we raise from the 24hr football match we are participating in. if that's alright with everyone else? You can fundraise aswell if you wish to?

Hi Chris,

Great idea mate, as the gaffer of the Queens Head in Cubbington, L'spa and life long season ticket holder i am prepared to start the collection with a £100.00 donation, it would be a privalige to see the flag flying round the stands, fair play to you mate, chaging the subject completely, i hold an anual Coventry City quiz at my pub, date still to be arranged, we have a great night and all the money donated goes to a very good charity, we have all sorts of memoribilia (hope i've spelt that right) and raffle prizes along with quiz prizes, hope this is something that might interest some of the members. I will be at Sheffield on Saturday, if you are there maybe we could meet up and arrange something. Regards Chris

I'm not really bothered who's ahead of who on this as long as we can all put the donations together and sort the flag!! PUSB

What we should get is a large flag that can be passed over the fans at the start of the game. The flag then could be placed in the empty seats in the away end. What do you think to that?

Nice one mate. Thanks. I think me and my mates are going to put around £10 each aswell. So thats around £150 already. We've also got an advertisement going in the Twist and Shout magazine for the Leeds game, which should bring in some revenue. At the next few games until we have raised the money we are going to be situated on the Ricoh side of the Underground tunnel towards the Tesco Arena.

What i meant was we could either team up with the GMK lot and make it a combined effort, although they seem pretty determined to have the GMK logo instead of the CCFC crest, or just go it alone and make a generic CCFC flag. What do people think?

Also, thats very generous of you to get the financial ball rolling!

Chris how about getting somebody to collect some money on the ticket office side? People will always have some spare change when they leave there

Good shout Spence. And I don't think it's really supporting the club if you use an advertising logo. So the coventry logo is much more suitable for this kind of think. I am also happy to be the team manager kind of person for this.

Yeah that's a fair shout. I have a bit of experience regarding flags and enquiring about them etc. So give me a shout if you need any help or whatever. Have you come up with a final design?

We haven't decided on an idea yet but weve got a few ideas. And weve had the quotes from the companies about sizes. So we just need to send them the final design. But were getting ideas from other people aswell.

On the design part, i'm sure we can all agree that we should had the Coventry crest in the middle. Colour wise, i guess it's going to have to be sky blue and white.
What wording do we think should be on it? Some combination of any from:

'CCFC'
'SKY BLUE ARMY'
'LET'S ALL SING TOGETHER'
'PLAY UP SKY BLUES'

Any other suggestions?

Well I posted my idea before but ill post it again. Thats what I was thinking in refference to wording and colour. I don't like the idea of 'LETS ALL SING TOGETHER' as it seems like a target for bullying. Whereas, I like 'PLAY UP SKY BLUES' and 'SKY BLUE ARMY'
