Its expected Barton comes in for fleck tonight, I think he has so much potential but I still think hes getting over his leg break, he can be so frustrating to watch can be weak slow and not in for the tackle, I had a similar situation and it took me two years to come good. I think he will get there in the end and prove to be a good signing as I rate him, its his big chance tomorrow and I hope he takes it

Barton is just my kind of player (lazy playmaker). I hope he grabs the chance. There's every odds that Thomas will be out soon so he'll get another shot soon regardless.

I think barton is a better replacement for thomas, as fleck is a completely different player, but I think he is more than capable of getting the job done! Fleck is too injury prone!

Yeah, Barton has ability. But people will question his attitude because he doesn't go into challenges 100% full blooded or chase back continuously. I like him, hope he comes good, because he's the sort of player that can create something out of nothing.

I think Barton is on borrowed time. If he doesnt shine this season at some point, I can see him going. I am not convinced he 'fits' into what SP is trying to achieve.

Cheer up gobshite. It's Friday.
Feeling a bit rank at the moment. Went into work last night and done a ten hour overtime night shift and ive had about 4 hours kip and ive got a pounding headache grrr.

A few ciders in a bit will sort that out.

When I was a lad and feeling at times that the whole world was against me, my old man used say in his Dublin brogue: "Don't worry son; just think that there is always somebody worse off than yerself!". I think I may have finally met him. ;)

I think he fits into exactly what SP is trying to achieve, he is a player who plays with his head up and is looking to move the ball on and create chances (Like a shit Pirlo).

Barton has shown he can score goals and pass the ball well. He needs game time and tonight is a chance to show he deserves it.

Problem is you can't play both him and fleck a the midfield central 2, both need a Thomas to bring energy and press.

Yep, sorry kg, quoted the wrong post I meant to quote lewys33. I would say though that being a skillful player doesn't excuse you from working hard out of possession, that is my main complaint. People like xavi and Iniesta, the bayern Munich, etc all work extremely hard are regaining possession. With Pressley adopting Dortmunds high tempo pressing game, every player has to work their nuts off or it doesn't work.

Unfortunately that's why they play for barca and bayern and Barton plays for us! Some players don't work hard, that's just the way it is. Le tissier and Merson were a couple if the laziest players, but they were both quality (and yes, I'm sorry for mentioning Merson)!

True, but they both had virtually free roles in hard working teams. Also football has moved on a bit since they retired or played at a decent level. Not many teams carry players anymore, all players have to contribute, especially if you want to play high tempo pressing game that Pressley wants to play. With everyone fit, he's quite rightly doesn't warrant a place in the side. You're right he's playing for us for a reason, but if he ever has aspiration of making it higher in the leagues, he will need to do his share of the graft. Good luck to him tonight.

Don't get me wrong, the best 11 have been playing week in week out, but as it goes I don't think Barton's a bad replacement for Fleck.

Agreed, he can do a job for us tonight.
