Not long in the grand scheme of things. The process has now been derailed by a general election so nothing will happen till the second half of June by which time the German elections will be in full swing.

That will likely require a coalition to be formed so realistically we're looking at next January before anything meaningful happens. That gives 15 months to get everything sorted. In compression CETA, a deal between a country on good terms with the EU, took well over a decade.

Now the US is indicating a deal with the UK is a low priority as well.

As does going on about Corbyn attending an IRA memorial while turning a blind eye to fawning over the Saudis and members of the Tory party describing Mandela as a terrorist.

Its a big problem. There was a study done during the last general election that showed that for a large percentage of voters the party they were voting for wasn't the party closest aligned to their beliefs.

Having a press and media dominated by the right wing doesn't help. Noticed that the UK has fallen to 40th place in the press freedom rankings.

Corbyn can get back to protesting with terrorists and holding student rallies

If that's what you genuinely want then fair enough, I just hope you have no need for a hospital in the remainder of your life. Or that you're intending on sending anyone to school.

Unless you live in Islington North you wouldn't be voting for Corbyn. In fact you may be voting for a Labour politician opposed to Corbyn who will do more to oppose him than replacing with a conservative allowing Labour to put a Corbynist in his place for the next election.

Let's suppose for a moment that Corbyn actually does support the IRA and wants them to kill people over here (which he doesn't). Why does Mrs May get a free pass for arming the Saudis while they behead their own citizens and commit war crimes in Yemen? Grendel fell strangely silent when pressed on this, let's see if one of her other fans can explain it.

The Saudis are the biggest exporter of Islamic extremism in the world and Wahhabism is the root of everything from Isis to al quaida. Anybody serious about security should completely oppose any government intending to favour them.

Well as the polling shows people like Labour policies more than Conservative ones, just not when they're told that they're Labour policies. Which is why it beggars belief that Corbyn could decline a free opportunity on national TV to broadcast these policies.

I saw our media hailing Mrs May for standing up to them...by not wearing a head-dress in a meeting with them. Maybe stop with the arms, funding, and open support for their action in Yemen? She is the real terrorist sympathiser.

The last Labour government slashed sickness benefits in 2008 and disqualified many people from claiming them altogether. There's no reason to believe a future Labour government would behave any different.

She was terrible on Marr this morning. Problem is how many people watch that?

Marr quoted Royal College of Nursing figures showing nurses have had a 14% pay cut since 2010 and they are using food banks in order to eat. Her answer was to basically say nurses needing to use food banks was nothing to do with the government.

"there are many complex reasons why people use food banks"

no there's not, it's because they can't afford food.

"the way out of poverty is through work"

most of the people using food banks are from working families.

In work benefits are at a record high. The taxpayer is essentially subsidising employers who won't pay staff a living wage. Many of them while they make huge profits. The UK has suffered a bigger real terms fall in wages than any other developed country apart from Greece.

I beg your pardon?

Labour abolished Incapacity Benefit at the end of October 2008 and replaced it with Employment Support Allowance which is paid at a lower rate. At the same time they also introduced the Work Capability Assessment which disqualified many people from claiming ESA even if they had an incurable illness and were terminal.

Employment and Support Allowance - Wikipedia

Try doing some research before calling me a liar.

You just don't know how much England has moved right until you have left the place. I put the blame very firmly in the lap of New Labour, who sold out the soul of the party, and left so many disinfranchised with politics because they had no one to vote for.

Its why you have seen the rise of the SNP and UKIP. Looking for an alternative whatever that may bring.

May is admittedly a poor leader but she and the Conservative party are undeniably the best on offer.

Labour are finished thanks to Blair and the SNP will run Scotland even further into the mire than they already are. As for independence, forget it. The Scots know that without the rest of the UK they're nothing and as an independent country they'd be poorer than Greece.
