Yeah it's worrying how few riot trained police there seems to be in the whole country

Protesters came to vandalise my mosque - I offered them a hug instead

I guarantee you that almost every single person who vandalised mosques or looted shops has never meaningfully spoken to a Muslim in their life.

These are the sort of stories we should be hearing about

Isn't it nice to see France having a party with all creeds and colours having positive sporting fun. That's what life is about. I'm going to try and watch the Olympics tonight rather than Sky News. Maybe all of us on here should do that and take a break from this thread.

Well perhaps if the next target is Brighton, they'll throw a bit of Homophobia in just to spice up the racism, then they can finish the evening by bending eachother over

I agree, although there was a police Liason officer the other day who said taking weapons to the mosque was on about the EDL.

All Im saying is that apparently everybody was being told all day the EDL were coming, the police presence really didn't look as if there was EDL turning up to that situation as it would have been carnage.

It could be that other intelligence sources the police use gave the impression this EDL thing wasn’t happening. They may have been waiting away from the scene until spotters had confirmed an EDL presence approaching. Could be all manner of reasons so let’s not go all-in on “there was no police present as they’re terrified of Muslims”.

What happened as a result was bad and it suggests whatever operational decision the police took, it was the wrong one. I saw the ITV coverage last night and their reporter said it had largely been peaceful all day until a group of masked youths turned up and started the trouble.

Seems the number is 20,000. BBC reported 30% of them will be mobilised. Don’t understand why it isn’t more, if I’m honest. Catch this thing before it gets even more out of control.

Had an interesting encounter in my local in the UK last night. Became quite a heated debate between two leftists and a couple of blokes who were very right wing and in favour of the riots. Was almost fists at a couple of moments and it went on for about two hours in total. There was another three of us who agreed with some points from both sides, and disagreed with others.

There were two things that everyone agreed on though; an acceptance that there is problem with integration in the UK from particularly the Islamic Community, and that there seems to be a double standard on the reactions and reports depending on where you sit on the political spectrum. Where it fell apart between the two groups was generally about how it was dealt with, with one group seemingly being unable to not tar everyone from an immigration background negatively, and also thinking violence being appropriate, and the other side basically saying we should do nothing and that these reactions were too far.

Obviously booze and politics is a terrible combination, but it was a very fascinating encounter and despite some things being a bit nasty, refreshing to have an open debate rather than be online and get caught in circles. People behave a lot differently when there isn't a keyboard to hide behind, which is obviously one of the things that has been making this situation across the country worse.

Never in my life I have seen such a conversation to be honest.

Will it spiral out of control?
As the repercussions happen , people losing their jobs , being ostracised from families and communities and liberty being taken away it might not seem such a good idea to protest

I agree, but isnt this part of the issue? The fact that we have a 'community'? I mean if I came out as an old fecker and said I deplore the hatred and racism of the far right and their actions, nobody gives a shit. Do they represent MY community? It's almost as if a few elders who are more sensible (note the narrative difference to the old English development blockers ) can see the damage it will cause longer term and everyone goes 'oh that's ok then'. It's still good of them to do it when they don't have to, but doesnt excuse the earlier actions.

Integration and interaction has to be the way forwards . Through my different sporting activities over the years I've played with and against people from all creeds and cultures and I can't remember at any point feeling we were any different from each other .
I'm an old hippy at heart and wish love and peace and happiness on everyone

I see Elon Musk is going at it with Starmer on twitter.

It's a mental situation. Dare I say Musk is as powerful as a small nation? What can Starmer/UK Gov do to combat Twitter?

In all seriousness I wonder if we will see matches in some locations called off. No doubt things will kick off again at various locations around the country. If there are football matches taking place in the same locations then it's pretty obvious there may not be enough police to cover the games.

I would have thought it would be a cancellation of all fixtures rather than individual ones. It would be a matter if overall police operational capacity. Can see other major public events like festivals/concerts and other major sporting events eing postponed if this carries on.

Musk has a point though, starmer should have said in his press conference that the police and government should protect all communities not just the Muslim community.
