Go back and see what I said... I said the bloke was being a prick.

Heavy handed, maybe a bit as he clearly wasn't a threat but if he wasn't being the prick it wouldn't happen so no sympathy.

And the problem is, the police have to take all of those threats seriously, and allocate resources.

Then if some knob posts something about attacking a mosque, there's the reaction from the other side to try to cover too.

It's a nightmare for the police, I still think getting a lid on social media is perhaps key to getting this under control.

I've come off all forms of social media in the last week. Friends who should know better posting vile stuff and pushing division .
Would rather not see it

Yep, it's the old misinformation thing again, isn't it? Like the rumour that the far-right were turning up enmasse in Birmingham. It mobilises those who think they can defend themselves and their communities. They then go onto commit acts of violence themselves. It's neverending.

The point is, they didn't allocate resources though did they? There was no police in sight so if they had taken the threat seriously it would have needed shit loads.

What Im saying is, why wasn't there a heavy police presence if they were actually expecting far right cunts to turn up?

Make it make sense.

Here’s sense for you.

The Leeds stuff escalated wildly in a very short timeframe. A call that maybe 4 officers went to turned sour quickly and there wasn’t sufficient riot police in a local vicinity to contain it.

I’m not saying that’s factual, I don’t know the full capacity of the riot police in Leeds and surrounding areas, but it’s plausible.

On the other side you have organised far-right protests with dates having been published online. This gives the police the opportunity to prepare more resource. Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s fair to say they’ve been under-resourced at every one, but it’s the judgement call of those in charge.

Yes and the point I'm making is that apparently everybody thought the EDL were turning up so there hundreds of people to oppose them. Jess Philips justified people being out with weapons by saying "They had been told the EDL were coming".

If the police thought there were going to be EDL turning up and there were hundreds of people there to kick off with them, then why were there no police in sight?

So it begs the question, if the police really thought the EDL were coming why weren't they there when it could have been very, very messy.

They were there, Nick. There was at least one van there from very early on. What they weren't, was visible. That bit I can't answer.

It could be they had loads of officers just around the corner (not unusual in public order situations) or it could be that they actually thought it would pass off peacefully and didn't have enough bodies to throw at it in any case.

Either way, I can't believe that any copper with a half a brain would have stirred that crowd up by saying "the far right are on the way", so I suspect that's a myth.

The thick cunts have apparently been starting to target emergency NHS staff in Sunderland. Are they going to step up and fill these vital, thankless roles when they leave? I think not. Utter disgrace.

I would agree, you can’t really do anything about the severely intellectually challenged using these accounts as their motivation and inspiration, but social media seems to be the place they get their rallying call to arms to “sAvE aRe chiLdreN” and that type of stuff, from patriots on sunbeds in Cyprus.

Yes. You made it clear they're responsible for high interest rates.
And all old people stoke up hatred of immigrants. True. You only have to look at the footage to see how many oaps are chucking bricks at the police when they should be playing dominoes and shove ha'pennny. Bastards

The first priority as an overwhelmed police force may well have been to keep things as under wraps & contained as possible, not go in leathering anything that moved & starting a pitched battle all over the place. Then start sweeping them up with an early morning knock at the door.

Just in terms of policing numbers in general, it's a lot lower than people realise.

Put it this way, if there's a moderately serious incident in Coventry, not a riot, just standard police stuff, and another one comes in at the same time, they'll be stretched. One or two cars have to cover a lot of ground these days.

I've been told by serving officers that it's not unusual to call in from Birmingham or vice versa when things are awkward. The thin blue line really is pretty thin.

I agree, although there was a police Liason officer the other day who said taking weapons to the mosque was on about the EDL.

All Im saying is that apparently everybody was being told all day the EDL were coming, the police presence really didn't look as if there was EDL turning up to that situation as it would have been carnage.

Hareshill: This is literally the verbatim response of the Police Officer with thirty years experience of public order:

"The circumstances in Harehills were very different. “It started out looking like a standard call that many officers will go to, an incident at an address with social services trying to remove children,” said Wettone. “And then it blew up with officers coming under attack. And because of how quickly it escalated, withdrawal is the best tactic.”

Just because you don't agree with it doesn't make it propaganda.

As for useful idiot newspapers, just a stab in the dark this, but do you perhaps read one owned by billionaires? And do you believe everything in it is factual and unbiased?

In all seriousness I wonder if we will see matches in some locations called off. No doubt things will kick off again at various locations around the country. If there are football matches taking place in the same locations then it's pretty obvious there may not be enough police to cover the games.

The reason the policing in Birmingham and Plymouth looks different is there we different situations

In Plymouth the trouble happened at the place the protest was schedule to take place. That is why the police were there and talking action against the people how got violent.

In Brum the police were there but the like Plymouth were at the place where the "protest" was meant to take place. What then happened was smaller group broke off but the police stayed where the majority of people where by Heartlands hospital.

You can attack this tactic but it is not "2 tier" as this is the same tactic that was used in places like Middlesbrough where they let groups of far right rampage down streets etc.

Funnily enough they are being jailed here in Kent (and Rutland) ..... which is not only near me but amusingly where the Conservative & Unionist Party detained immigrants and their kids. That will agitate the EDL followers!
