Gary Hoffman: Premier League chairman set to step down over Newcastle takeover

Gary Hoffman is set to step down as chairman of the Premier League following a backlash from clubs relating to the Saudi Arabian-based takeover of Newcastle United.
www.bbc.co.uk

Wonder if he'll now channel his interests into club football?

That snippet had passed me by, i must say. What a bunch of clowns the PL are if they appointed him!

That was announced in October (possibly so that he could fully concentrate on his EPL role).

Our Gary now has time on his hands.

Brr Brr.

"Hello, Joy Seppala here"

"Hello Joy, it's Gary here. Gary Hoffman"

"Yes Gary, can I help you?"

"Well Joy, I've been looking at Tim and David. Are you really sure they're up to the job at Coventry City"

"I'll meet you at The Spon Gate tomorrow at 8.00AM for a pint and a lovely Spoons breakfast; but Gary, wear shades, you never know who's looking"

"Eight bells Joy, looking forward to it"

He went to my school (he’s several years older) and therefore can never do any wrong.

Due to only being 20K in Wembley for the first game of the Euros against Croatia, I got bumped to the section behind the dugout amongst the player’s friends and families. At FT I bumped into Hoffman who asked me who I was with etc but after that I asked him if he was ever going to get involved with the club again and he said that ship has sailed and I can’t with working in the PL. TBH I didn’t know he had become the chairman of the PL anyway.

On a side note, It was a pretty surreal experience, I had never felt so out of place in all my life but I had Pickford’s family sat to the left of me (who were some of the most down to earth and friendly people I’ve met) and invited me for a beer at HT. Surprisingly enough they all seemed to be very aware of the trouble at the recent games vs us!

Many ways of looking at this isn't there.
Leant on by Govt to approve deal .
Greedy prem overlords etc.
Been having trouble filling senior roles, revenge of other hugely bankrolled envious competitor',revenge of big six ESL members who were fined.
I mean if you read the article there is comment supportive but a lone voice .
Doubt he's as useless as some love to make out.
So much bitterness in Coventry people,no generosity of heart or mind.

And you know he will get another top job anytime he wants one, probably earns more in one year than most of his detractors do in twenty, not bad for someone who is useless.

He is and always has been a big home & away City fan even in the bad old days when we slipped down the divisions perhaps that was a weakness when fronting the attempted takeover. For some reason that attempt prompted some quiet venomous responses on here, still does.

Not sure why people slate Hoff.

If we were to ever totally implode as a club, go into admin, fall out of League whatever - he is the one person with the connections and conviction to step in.

I’d rather have him as a fan than slate him.

Dale Evans on speed dial.

I'd much prefer Overson.

Strikes me as a bullshitter who doesn't put his money where his mouth is, and just stirs up trouble and unrest among the fans

Totally agree with you mate – Why do people it seems to get jealous when one of our own who came from a working class family does well in life – particularly as he has sky blue blood running through his veins

He's obviously got ability in his chosen field. There's a blind spot with us however, and his judgement of who to go in with is always catastrophically poor!

Hoffman was chairman in be Sisu's early days where many poor decisions were made and the club was badly run. I'd personally rather he wasn't involved.

Starts with SISU and Ranson (was vice chairman, don't forget), continues pairing up with Elliot (if ever there's somebody who if they say someone's an excellent custodian for the club, you should run a mile), continues with Haskell (who even ACL's preferred administrator suggested never had the means to make a successful go of club and ground), and caps off with Dale Evans, which was rare genius really!

Who was running the club though, ? seems an age ago now but we had that Imre Omre bloke whatever his name was as the sisu man, useless, and that pillock who suggested we have text a sub not to mention orange Ken must have been murder working or trying to with that lot, culminating with the DreamTeam Fisher & Waggott one of the planks still here.

I can’t vouch for Hoffman’s business acumen but his judgement has been called into question on here often enough, possibly with justification.
Hoffman has travelled home and away for decades and has Coventry City DNA for sure. I wish the likes of Overson and Hoffman could come together and secure a more secure future for the club.
That said Simon Jordan, Mel Morris and Alan Hardy were fans of their clubs and it didn’t end well for either party.

You don't think a ten-year stadium sharing agreement and support for a very successful manager is a secure future?

Ten years' residency and a few vague promises about a new ground doesn't sound overly secure, no.

Didn't Overson walk away when he found out that the last takeover "attempt" had wasps on board in the background and Hoffman didn't tell him
