Ove felt this for a few seasons, we are bad at closing a match out, and tonight was a prime example of it.

Some of that is player led, why we kept playing passes into midfield, why we forced stuff ok the edge of the box. Know when to play through the press and know when to play long.

Some of that is manager led, we dropped deeper and deeper and invited them onto us but in doing so left Simms isolated up top and stopped running in behind. It just meant that the ball was coming back at us, over and over.

There's also an element of being too naive, we needed a player to go down and kill momentum.

Hard to be overly critical, because we've just outplayed them, but that's the difference between us and them. They were clinical, and we were anything but.

I would have left Bassette on. But they may have concerns about his ability to see out the 90 right now, given he hasn't played much and the intensity that he does play at.

Wright I can understand coming off with one eye on Saturday.

We would definitely have benefited from some of the dark arts last 5 min. But in the end both goals are from experienced players giving the ball away poorly IMO, which is on them as individuals.

The time wasting to see out the first half was making me laugh.

What is a problem is the midfield running out of steam with no reinforcements on the bench. This is going to keep kicking us in the arse till January.

We brought two reinforcements on as subs.

Subs defo pre arranged. He was checking his watch a few times before making them.

Every season we say it we need to become street wise. With clever ways of slowing the game down.

Prearranged subs is so amateur.

yea really easy to see out a game when you've worked your nuts off for 80 minutes against one of the best teams in the country and then they bring on Kulusevski/Maddison/Son

Hard to say when we didn't really try.

Can't help but think with a McFadz / Kelly / Doyle type player we would have slowed the game right down and made it hard for them to get into the flow.

so what I'm getting from this thread is that everything good that happens is nothing to do with the management & coaching team, everything bad that happens is entirely their fault

The hints of disgruntlement on the team selection before the game went a bit quiet, in fact they made a 360 turn because in the end Robins was criticised for bringing on some players who the same posters were complaining hadn't started the game

Who would you have brought on then Nick? Kai Andrews?
Or another defender in Kitching?
or that well known defensive player Sakamoto?

I heard someone after the game saying the subs we made were negative/defensive…. They were like for like pretty much.

guarantee if he’d have gone 5 at the back and filled the midfield and tried to hang on he’d have got shit for it, rather than actually trying to get the second.

we were done by giving the ball away sloppily (Allen) and Sheaf putting a pass into Torp he really shouldn’t have, and a team of internationals breaking with speed and being ruthless, along with our lack of being able to get that second goal that would have killed the game.

Wright really should have scored, a moments hesitation let the defender get back. So frustrating

I don’t think Robins was making subs to see out the game to be honest. Looked like pre-arranged subs to get the first team players off.

It cost us the game.

Everyone could see that Allen was knackered, and yet we took players off that were playing well

Literally every sub we made had a negative impact on us.
If we were saving players for Saturday, we may as well of played the youth team from the start.

I think the point is, despite playing well and the pedigree of the opposition, to lose in that fashion is still very frustrating.

Some people don't want to know, but Robins and his substitutions/game management rears its head far too often. He could be the best manager in the world, but it is still a legitimate gripe.

I’m a nutshell I think everyone expected us to lose the game in all probability. Some people are blaming wrong subs etc, but I’m more inclined to say that it was the manner of the defeat in the end which was the more disappointing.

They really haven't.

Allen was exhausted. Torp for Rudoni was strange.

Not a single player tried to go down injured to kill the game dead when they were all over us.

Perhaps we need a Dark Arts Coach.

Maybe we can learn something?

If only we could find an experienced central midfielder who's available and out of contract.

More shithousery required, especially when it goes unpunished by the ref

This is what can happen, with not getting an older head or two in , to lead our youngsters

It's nothing to do with old head, it's all to do with a lack of thinking from the players.

Today was fucking embarrassing from the referee, but Swansea took every inch that the ref gave them and more.

If the ball was in play for more than 15 minutes in that 2nd half I'll be shocked - that's what we should've done midweek.

I saw both Bidwell and Simms just stand there and watch other players have to come and get the ball that was near them for a set piece. They could have just moved to get it back to them so we could get on with the game.

They just stood there, no urgency.

Its not hard. Most of it is just common sense.

We just don't do it.

We should have been doing what Swansea were doing against spurs, killing their momentum.
