Look at all the players with shit agents.

bayliss
Stevenson
Harries
Sambou
Willis

all could have played a few good seasons with us and become established in the men’s game. Now they don’t even feature for their clubs, loaned out or gone. Or they play for a shit club (Sunderland)

So Willis has a shit agent because he's risen through the academy, played senior football for us for 7 years, gathered over 200 apps and 8 goals, and because he left his agent is shit?
perhaps he wanted to seek a new challenge, or just a change?

IT's a lesson in footballers lives. Jamie Vardy was unknown, hit a few goals and got spotted more than once by managers who were willing to take a punt. The game is littered with quality footballers who for some reason have missed out due to a manager or coaches decision making at this club or that club, unable to get a game due to someone elses form, and fades out of contention and a number of other factors.
I have a brother in law who was a fantastic keeper at Sheffield Wed back in the early 90's playing in the youth and reserves vying for a contract with Kevin Presman . He was touted as better than Presman at the time, but a new coach came in chose Presman and eventually Presman went on to be Wednesday's first choice while the brother in law got released and eventually joined the army! So it can be luck of the draw as much as talent sometimes.

Agreed, but I dont see us signing Walsh then, surely he’d have that role.

As much as I like Bayliss - Walsh is currently far better

Alsp branding sunderland a shit club is a bit much

Even if we get peomoted and they dont you would expect they will be in championship soon enough with a budget to go at promotion to prem too

Everyone is bitter these days

Willis is now playing for a bigger club on higher wages.

the fact we’re top and they’re struggling is hindsight. They’re still in the play off hunt and could very well still get promoted.

I’d say that you’re jumping the gun on Willis

No idea how much truth is in this, but heard that while Bigi was at Newcastle he pissed off the then manager Alan Pardew by going on England Under 20's duty instead of staying with Newcastle. After that he was effectively bombed out and never got another look in.
Equally it might be nothing more than Pardew just didn't rate him.

I suppose Walsh is a deeper player, they both have similar qualities and both would be class alongside Kelly.

looking back at this debate, I forget we initially built a team around 4-3-3.

What good is it getting a 2-3yr pay day when your career splutters to a halt at 26. Footballers at that age with that potential (perceived or actual) probably don’t plan to be out of the football league by 25-26.

In US sports, the adage is that your second pro contract ‘sets you life’.

Got his head turned by his agent and ended up being an official bench warmer, career stumbled and he never got back on track. Happens to loads of players tempted away by the bright lights of higher divisions only to languish twiddling their thumbs.
I was gutted when he left but I think we have moved on as fans and a club to be interested in a return.

Players often think they’re better than they are, and goaded into big, one time moves to Premiership clubs.

When these players get there, they become disposable in a ‘sink or swim’ environment. Whereas before they’re in an environment where their development has been prioritised at their club.

George Thomas should’ve stayed with us, or at least gone to a good League 1 to lower Championship team. Hopefully his love to Holland pans out well.

Ben Stevenson is still the best, his mum telling all and sundry that he can't wait to be out of here, his dad calling in sick for him. Now a bit part player for a League Two club.

Did we ever find out what Bigis mystery illness was? Maybe that is why he can't get a game in non league football at 26. He wasn't premiership class but equally he was better than non league.

Also think the sale of him for £1m has to come under the same ‘how the hell did that happen’ category as Julian Gray (yes guys, he’s really gone!), and Gary Borrowdale!

Some belters in there:

@KersleyDigs this is yours:

Other teams like Southampton-Sheff Utd managed to get £4-7m (Naughton, Walker, Bale, Walcott, Chamberlain) for their young players and Gael is a very special talent indeed!!!!

Classic Ginetta judgement here:
I couldn't blame him at all for making the move. Tbh, I couldn't blame any of our players for leaving. It's a club in turmoil, why would you want to stay? I do remember he is supposed to have said he would never play for any club but Coventry. We all knew when the choice came common sense would prevail though

It wasn't that we wasn't committed - he's a top lad from a very humble background. As I said, he's just too much of a raw talent to really take the bull by the horns at the moment. He shouldn't have to be thrown into League 1 football and get battered week in week out. Newcastle is the best move for him, where he can be nurtured and introduced into the game gently.

Ginetta again.....they were spot on weren't they?
You can accept him being sold. That's just realistic. But you can guarantee they weren't thinking long term about the future of the club and were more worried Newcastle would change their minds and they wouldn't get anything at all before they run off into the sunset.

I saw him a couple months back at the Pure Gym in the Sky Dome. He looked far too out of shape to play professional football. It’s a shame how his career has nose dived.
