There's an article in The Athletic saying they've spoken to three MPs who all say the PL will continue as they are now playing BCD and carrying out testing. No mention of the EFL as obviously football doesn't exist outside the PL but I can't see them shutting it down.

So is there any chance we can just cancel the season and end on PPG?

If you can get someone to pay you a few quid to play you're technically a professional, which you could argue is elite sport.

The EFL notes the difficult decision taken by the Government in respect of the implementation of a ‘national lockdown’ in England from Thursday 5 November 2020 in response to the rising cases of COVID-19.

During this next phase it has been confirmed to the League by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) that elite sport will be able to continue and EFL competitions will therefore remain as currently scheduled (in both England and Wales).

Professional football has implemented some of the most stringent, robust and regularly reviewed protocols since the restart in June 2020 and our medical experts’ advice remains in place to fully adhere to these measures which are specifically designed to mitigate against the spread of the virus.

The health, safety and well-being of players and Club staff throughout the pandemic has been our first priority and this will continue as we enter this next period of lockdown and beyond.

In addition, we acknowledge the Government’s national efforts in tackling this outbreak and would hope that during this next phase of the crisis, our national sport, negatively affected by COVID-19 like many other industries, can continue to provide some form of welcome distraction and give people in our communities up and down the country a sense of normality in very challenging times.

Football is so important to people's mental health that they'd be crazy to stop it.

Looks like I can still dangle my worm!

UPDATE: 09.15pm 01/11/2020

The Angling Trust is pleased that the government has recognised the value of allowing angling and other forms of outdoor recreation to continue – with members of your own household or with one other individual – through next month’s lockdown. It seems that tackle shops will still be able to operate a ‘click and collect’ service. So we are still fishing.
Whilst we need to see the precise details in the regulations laid before Parliament on Monday it is likely there will be impacts on certain areas of our sport and we will update everybody just as soon as we are able to do so.

There was just a second while reading that I thought "I hope you get it bad", but then I castigated myself because I'm better than that. The whole point of this is to save people from the misery of the disease, even scum like her.
