Because different managers see different things in players. Shrewsbury have an even lower budget than us at a guess, and can even less afford to take a chance on a player. Who knows. The fact he hasn't signed for them does not mean he will not be good for enough for us. He is only here on trial in anycase?

Jay Emmanuel-Thomas has joined Gillingham on loan from QPR for the season. Would have been perfect for us: a big, strong forward who is quick and technically skilled.

Somethings wrong.

I don't get how we can be so short. Whichever excuses or reasoning get put forward, I do get the feeling something isn't quite right.

Hate it when other teams sign good players for this league. Sheffield United get Clarke and fleck. Bradford get vincelot and kilgallon.

Is everything right at the club? Not so sure. Hope I'm wrong

Something isn't right, a member of staff left Ryton after nine years service a couple of weeks ago, he didn't elaborate or go into any detail but mentioned broken promises and empty words and promptly left.
More to this than meets the eye?

If he'd stayed a couple of weeks longer he may have got on the bench tomorrow.

Im have no information on the staff at Ryton, but im not sure things would be right at the club at the moment, way too much uncertainty with the future of academy, stadium and court cases still hanging over the clubs head. The players/staff will say they don't know or are not involved in anything outside of the green bit they play on when asked by press, but it will effect them.

Its sad that we tend to be talking about more things off the field than on it a day before the season start's, but the only fact we know is the team thats plays the 1st game tomorrow will not be the team that plays the last.

Have seen Peterborough have had a bid for a player of over £1 million turned down. That's crazy money at this level.

Posh' chairman is not everyone's cup of tea but he has a clear business model. He won't play loan strikers because developing successful strikers that you can sell is where the transfer money is greatest. He sells top talent and reinvests a proportion of the income into fees for the next generation of lower league talent. It makes Posh sustainable..,, Posh fans however would argue it makes promotion harder too !.

The club stinks im afraid. We cant even compete with other league 1 clubs on loans and transfers despite having top 6 attendencies and selling madders etc

Its clear to me that sisu are cashing in on anything they can and not replacing players. Cutting the wage budget and outgoings whilst bringing in a few loans if they are cheap enough to allow the club to just about function until they wind us up. Play the kids this season to put them in the shop window to sell them

Tm will go at the end of the season and we will be left with no club

We've signed 5 players plenty of :League One clubs would want and are significantly better than most of the tripe Thorn signed in the First season in this League. Mowbray clearly wants to have a smaller squad of players who are of a better quality that the scatter gun attitudes of the past. The fact he was even in the race to sign Kelvin Wilson proves that.

Why if Mowbray leaves will we be left with no club?

More scare mongering rants.

We have signed some decent players for the level, whereas you look at Fleetwood who people get excited over because of numbers they have signed and you won't have heard of any of them apart from maybe Alex Cairns the goalie.

Yes teams like sheffield united will be out there splashing they cash, they can though can't they?

Who have teams like Millwall brought in so far?

Probably comparable to the amount of players they have lost. I cannot remember the last time we have built on last seasons team, rather it being decimated and started afresh!

On a serious note, its the day before a new season and we have doubts about the academy, doubts about the future at the Ricoh and lets be honest a very thin squad short of bodies that will not see us out for the season. We need someone from the club to stand up and give us some sort of clarification of what we are doing. The fans are in limbo and deserve to know whats going on. If Sisu are re thinking their strategy let us know, if they are selling what they can before they try to leave then all good and well. (We know what to expect). If TM is just waiting on a few things to happen and is happy with the situation all well and good but I cannot remember in all my years as a City fan feeling so low before a season.
£540 for my ticket in the legends lounge I must be mad!:woot:

No offence KoK204 but Clarkes not exactly going to be there for more than 12 months (albeit it will be good for them for a season probably), Killgallon hasn't been good for years (isn't he 34 now as well...?) and the majority on here have slated Fleck on countless occasions (look at his scoring record for an attacking midfielder...) and Vincelot had a poor end to the season. So bar Clarke for a few months, they're not really good players.

With things like this, people overlook the fact that we've signed the likes of Jones and the Bulgarian international chap. Imagine if we saw that a L1 rival had signed a Bulgarian international...."why can't we sign players like that etc etc"

Yes no offence taken and I take your points. They are valid but I et trusted like many others. I've said to other posters to wait to the end of August and that right that's when the window closes but it's still tough as there is 5 games in August and we have no where near a full team.

Very frustrating but I will try and kee my own saying. Judge at the end of August. Tomorrow should get a result I hope also.

This is the model we all want surely? The best of the divisions below, coupled with kids coming through and a few stalwarts. I can see the allure in loaning in attackers for immediate impact, but you have to say you can see the reasoning that attacking players is where you make your money. All it takes is a striker to have a good season (usually because the team is playing well as a whole) and you've got a couple of mill.
