The real question is: who wins out of Frank, Big Mike and Steve Bruce in a kebab eating contest?

Managers are purely their to get results and achieve goals.

Robins has underperformed significantly over the last 12 months.

Its impossible to say if new managers will work or not - and if they do not the taxis with again be gathering in mock solemnity

I've read on here 14 games, poor summer recruitment, 6 months, 8 months, 9 months - now 12 months is a new top trump. Again we can all argue over the decision, but the last 12 months we not only lost some big players and characters, but had some very good performances, some of the best days supporting the club in Wolves and United, a solid cup run in the earlier rounds with lots of goals and great games and results at home against Leicester and Leeds.

I'm not suggesting it was in any way perfect, but 12 months is really stretching the envelope a little too far imo.

Ah I assume as in 'Fat Frank', thanks.
I always thought that was West Ham fans referring to his wallet when he signed for Chelsea rather than his stature.

Robins had a poor CV before he came here and was out of work for a while.

We have had a 3/4 month good period in the league football since last August. We were knocked out of the League Cup against a League 2 side last season too.

Take the FA Cup and December 23 - March 24 out of it, and it's been a very poor 14/15 months despite Robins being given a lot of what he demanded previously. He was given stability, new training facilities, players not being sold late on (besides Gus), £45m of new signings, new pitches, new staff to take pressure off him.

The FA Cup run was amazing. The Wolves game was the most complete performance I've ever seen from a Coventry side. Wembley was one of the best days I've had despite the result. However, we cannot hide from the fact that it has simply not been good enough in the league. Unfortunately, cup football doesn't seem to mean much to owners or fans anymore. Otherwise, Robins would still be here planning for his next FA Cup run.

Certainly was. That’s a slightly different question to preferences for the next manager though.

If the wrong choice is made relegation will be the consequence.

So we're now excluding the good run in the middle of tehe season so we can get an even bigger 14/15 month.

Fk me we were poor in some of the L2 season he's been shit for 7 years - new Top Trump!

No way have we spent £45m either, but as I alluded to above, we're competing with bigger and better budgets, the '£45m' was self generated from his sales and even then would include not only stage payments not reached without success, but also of lower quality than two huge players going out or would have cost the same. Players are valued at £20m for a reason. Even if you replace them with a strong £7m player, to expect the same woudl be folly or the club paying £20m would have bought them instead for less!

We can't have it all ways. Equally not all signings will be a success - at any club.

Lampard would only with if Ady came back in. I presume they had the same playing / training / set up mentality from the Chelsea days.

I wonder if any severance deal with Ady would become less costly if he rejoins.

Just thoughts.

I've been attending CCFC games since 1972, although admittedly can't remember most of the first five years, and two of the greatest games I have ever seen came in 2024 under Mark Robins, Wolves and Manchester United.

Some like Grendel really are trying to rewrite history and paint Robins as a poor manager, not sure why. He's gone, don't trash his legacy.

yep- Grendel, Nick, Cam and a few others busily attempting to gaslight everyone into thinking Robins was actually a poor manager.

He’s gone and we now have to get behind the new guy, Robins is easily up there as one of the greatest managers in our history. Both of those things are objectively true.

We will forget the FA Cup Semi Final (a last minute VAR decision away from the final), and a final position higher than any other manager achieved with the club in 18 years.

This season has not delivered anything like what we expected, but this talk of 12 months’ failure is just more manipulation designed to have everyone thinking Robins was much worse than he actually was, and also lower expectations for the new manager.

You never liked Robins and now he’s gone & we have a new start- all ok, but it’s strange to see all these attempts to run him down after the last 7 years, which were the best most of us experienced in decades. Even if I don’t like someone I can appreciate when they’ve done a good job, and Robins undeniably- by any metric you care to name- did a good job, a great job in fact.

Fair point, but to me his silence is deafening, if he is indeed trying to negotiate a settlement that would make sense to remain quiet, that said why throw our most successful manager, in my time, under the bus knowing that a retort isn’t going to be coming! To me that is a pretty cowardly act. Even if Mark Robins is at fault in some way, which he may be, have a bit of decency and show some class be the bigger person and let a club legend walk away as exactly that, a club legend.

I dont want this to turn into another RoS v Grendel as we have enough of those. I appreciate you don't see eye to eye and on this subject my views differ from G's, but let's try and remain objective.

Born in 72, being a City fan in my lifetime, I had some great memories of my 'heroes' in the early 80's when I started going, leading up to the cup final in 87. A large turnover of managers and players followed and bar a couple of seasons as the 'Entertainers' under Strachan, it was a largely turgid affair as we slipped down the leagues. Despite being a lifelong passion, spending thousands travelling about, going a whole season away under Strachan without winning a game, crap owners, never challenging for anything, moving out of the ground etc etc it was tough mentally and financially to keep going. Since the return of MR and the Checkatrade Final, some of the best times, especially as they've been family occasions too, have been great under MR and I'll always look back on the era with fondness.

I'm not that bothered that he's gone, I accept it. I dont particularly want FL but again accept him and will give 100% support. But, to tarnish what we have enjoyed and I'd hope most on this forum were there to share some or all of those days, feels more than a bit mucky, and disingenuous.

Anyhow, working day over, all enjoy your evening.

A 1972 kid myself, I think whoever we get it's going to take time to warm to them as Robins was so respected by the fans. I think he knew his days were numbered a few weeks before his sacking.
