Still feels so raw without Robins. Doesn't feel right at all, I felt he deserved the season. I think a lot of us feel the same. There's so much stability, sentiment and emotion that goes with Robins and we are now back in the unknown. People are hurt, upset and it's totally understandable, I am too. However we are Coventry City and have to get behind whoever is appointed.

We may disagree with Dougs decision to sack Robins at this time, but we should all be hoping it's the right one and that whoever is appointed is the right one, because if it is then ultimately it means the club gets to where we all want it to be.

Lampard, Sheeran, or whoever they all feel underwhelming, but also we have to get behind whoever and give them the best opportunity to succeed.

Those who wanted an FA Cup over the playoffs to raise our profile should be pleased with the prospect.

You think if lampard had been in charge the start of this season would he have been any worse than robins, I doubt it, we’ve been awful, that’s on the manager unfortunately

Also probably overhaul of the coaching set-up and poor recruitment.

I don't know how much of that was down to the manager.

I’m sure there are better managers out there on the continent and maybe some of the less well known names like Bloomfield maybe good in the long run but for where we are I can see some logic in Lampard.

Im not expecting playoffs this season now but to push up the table and finish top half after our start and the dumping of Robins.

Next summer is going to be a rebuild; Sheaf, Hadji, MVE all likely to move on. Likes of Bidwell, Allen and Wilson out of contract. So we’re looking at some significant churn although possibly a Vik windfall.

Frank has contacts in the game and assuming he steadies the ship I’d expect us to build a decent team although think it would be a push to expect promotion.

18 months of Lampard whilst not spectacular maybe the best we can hope for at this point.

It’s Doug who I think is going to have to adjust his expectations. There’s always a team that comes out the blue to get promotion but if he really wants us up he’s going to have to put his hands in his pockets and pump some money in not rely on sell ons from our better players.

Maybe when Robins was talking about lowering expectations he wasn’t talking to us, and was actually talking to above

I don’t want Lampard but it wouldn’t be the end of the world.

I’d hate to be known as “Frank Lampards Coventry”, but it would give us exposure.

I think his style is generally more aggressive/attacking than Robins’ which probably suits the squad.

Looking at what derby fans say about lampard

One of the common things is " yes he raised our profile "

They went down to league 1 shortly after and have the ex Rotherham manager in charge

Ok? Lampard left them after finishing 6th so I’m not sure how it’s his fault they got relegated 3 seasons later.

No it's not his fault, but there profile was raised briefly , long term it did nothing for their profile

Obviously, we are all speculating at the moment but the common consensus so far would be that if Lampard comes in he would want to bring his own backroom staff and utilise the loans market as he did at Derby (and rightly so with his connections!).

Which would then beg the question why we just didn't let Robins do that?

Would genuinely prefer Bloomfield to Lampard.

That being said if it was Lampard, I’d give him my support and also a bit of time / patience to get us competing again. Not sure a lot of fans will though after reading on here.

I’d be surprised if it is Lampard as I reckon he’d want to be paid a fair amount, but also I have no idea about manager salaries and surely he made enough money from football!

That’s what I didn’t get, we recruited for a 433, he said we had no width against derby ? just think he was running out of ideas, there’s a decent team in there, hope the new gaffer can find it,

An alternative perspective:

This is a great outcome for Mark. He leaves still a hero, the victim. He leaves with the crowd with him not against him. He leaves without it going horribly sour in the way most managers leave. He leaves with 2 years money and a great reputation in the EFL. Just like Eric Black he will forever be remembered as a manager with very few negative memories.

IF and it’s a big IF we find a manager that gets us promoted and we kick on again as a club then we as fans win too. If we get promoted and King sells the club to a much wealthier owner who keeps us as a Premier league club we win again.

Elite sport is about fine margins ….. remember that play off final. We didn’t turn up for 60 mins under Robins, the same in the Semi Final. They are two of my personal favourite recent moments with City but even during them they felt like they were turning sour for a long period.

I will be forever grateful to Mark, i have nothing but positive memories of him, but i‘M a Coventry City fan. The club will always come before any individual for me. Always has.

Hard to argue with that. The frustration appears to be with the timing as much as anything. It just feels too early* like eustace being replaced by Rooney, which might’ve worked better at a different time but fans didn’t want it and it turned hostile very quickly

Saying that, some of our performances this season and end of last have been unacceptable whoever’s fault that is. Maybe robins was done and didn’t know how to turn it around, maybe we’d have pulled out an upset and beaten Sunderland today to make it three wins out of four…we’ll never know.

Only time will tell whether it was the correct decision or not but the timing has put huge pressure on King, the new manager and the players

*due to past performance Robins deserved longer

Robins hadly covered himself in glory before he came here, he had free reign and suited what we needed at the time, is it the correct decision, who knows

I mean, we're joint 22nd and given the next 3 fixtures, it's obvious we'd be back in the relegation zone. That's not good enough, is it??

Hes made the relationship with the club purely transactional now. We aren’t on a journey. We aren’t a family. The players aren’t good lads doing their best. They’re all mercenaries staff and players now. So fuck then. I don’t like them, get us up the league or fuck off asap frankly.

Robins is the best manager in our recent history and to be fair and argument could be made forever.

I will miss mark and feel the stability he brought us can’t be repaid.

Mark however is now gone and won’t be coming back.

Lampard is a young manager with champions league experience. Is he my pick no, but he will offer a lot more than just himself, he’ll come in with a team who will offer better coaching then what we have and connections to one of the biggest clubs in England.

I won’t lie, I don’t want him I want Ruben Selles or Ian Evatt but don’t have a choice in the matter. Will support him and the lads, don’t have a choice personally.

I'm in City WhatsApp groups, work at a place with a lot of Skyblues and play 5 a side with predominantly Sky Blues supporters.
And I can tell you now, there is an incredible amount of anger equal to that on here and on social media.

I'm not sure where this real world is away from the bubble I must be living in

No amount amount of armchair punditry is going to convince me anyone has a clue how well Lampard would do with this squad. Every appointment is a gamble anyway. People can have their view, but all these unique insights are pretty much worthless. Nobody has a clue how it would pan out.
