I don't want us to be that with any manager either, it's cringeworthy.

I do think some are over the top as I don’t see much difference between Frank and Ruud but without them this place just wouldn’t be the same xD

FFS it wasn’t Ruud vs Frank. There are thousands of coaches out there. We didn’t have to have an owner that thinks he understands football and is attracted to big names.

tDean Austin worked with Frank Lampard Sr, Redknapp has been hawking Lampard around and got him the Derby job, King has said he is advised by people in football, ITKs on both sides have said it’s the case.

It’s speculation but it’s the most likely answer as to what’s happened. My question is if we are being advised by someone trying to get his nephew a job how much did that impact the decision to fire Robins?

Yeah I get that, think it’s just pragmatism that it was in the end rumoured between them.

Would of loved Ruben Selles or Skubala

Based on the fact that because Rooney went in at Blues it's going to happen to us or do you have something more substantial to suggest otherwise Torch?

Actually when you look at Lampard there is no history of him going into a club and getting them immediately relegated. He even kept Everton up in his experience of a relegation battle and wasn't able to sign any of his own players at that point.

Posts like this are scaremongering and there's nothing behind them to suggest it's even remotely close, in the case of Lampard.

TBH both have spotty records and rumours of being a bit shit behind the scenes. RvN for me is a bigger name with a better most recent record. But both would have been massive gambles compared to an up and coming tactician. Both will expect money to be spent. The things I’ve read about the Derby dressing room under Lampard and the state he left the clubs finances in really worry me.

Im not angry. Im disappointed.

Appointing Lampard suggests a lot of worrying things about our owner, not least that he’s advised by Harry fucking Redknapp. I think we’ve fucked it and I think you’d dug into robins out so much you’d have the Andy Thorn scarf out now if he was appointed.

We have the fundamentals of a PO team, we have good form against good teams in recent matches, that’s the base any new manager is starting from.

I’ll judge Lampard at the end of the season if it’s him but I don’t see a top half finish under him as likely and a complete melt down of the changing room attitude a distinct possibility as well as frittering of all our remaining transfer kitty as a distinct possibility.
I don't care what you think of Lampard, i think its a fairly mediocre appointment but will judge him entirely on what he does with us. If he has us playing as Robins has for quite some time now, he can get in the bin too.. if we don't improve at all then we could be heading for league 1 lets be honest so lets hope he's at least 'ok'.

The notion that Robins was sacked because Lampard was lurking in the background like some sort of reaper is what is total nonsense.

Robins was sacked on 14 games of it not working according to Doug. All I’m saying is if he’s going to Redknapp for advice on whether to stick or twist Redknapp isn’t giving completely independent advice. And that’s not just cos family that’s cos Redknapp and he’s got a long history of promoting Lampard since he was a kid.

Don’t know about the derby behind the scenes.

I know someone whose son was in the derby academy at the time and he was well liked behind the scenes at least by the young lads.

On the money front from what I can see they spent 14 million after selling 14.5 million. Don think Mel Morris should get away from the blame.

On Ruud, the benefit is the coaching work he’s done behind the scenes but both play decent football and have a knack for developing players.

Apparently brought in a lads culture. Lots of drinking, not a lot of discipline. Went into Chelsea with players who couldn’t be arsed and just moaned about them not being arsed rather than you know making them arsed. All suggests someone who can’t get more than the sum of their parts and relies on being mates with players because he’s Frankie Lampard.

Spent £6m on Waghorn, £5m on a player who went straight to L1, loaned in Mount as a cheat code player. Was apparently the start of the slide that saw Derby go broke. Completely fucked the play off final tactically apparently. Derby fans say no they knew from the team sheet and it was so bad there was questions of him throwing the final. No discernible style, just reliant on magic moments from player above the level. As many terrible results as brilliant ones.

I spent about five hours consuming Lampard as a manager content from him and fans and the impression I got was not good at all. His tactics video shows a lower level of tactical understanding than me and I’m a dumbass.

And the end to last season... and probably the start of last season was playing on his mind after it all too. Robins had shown, since spending a large wedge of money, that he is capable of going on long runs of extremely poor form. You don't get where you want by doing that. King had lost confidence in him and decided that you can't simply rely on 'we've turned it around before'. It was becoming unacceptable and was inevitable he'd pay the price.

Who he now picks is a completely separate issue. As i said there are others i'd prefer but i'll back Lamps and feel he could do ok.

Hiring Lampard just lacks imagination from King/Austin. Doesn't reflect well on the proffessional functionality of the club if a 'jobs for the boys' appointment is made. Falls in line with the sketchy recruitment since summer 2023. I'll support him, and theoretically we should see an improvement tactically on what's been served up this season, but feels like we already know Lampard's ceiling as a coach so even if he were to get us promoted it's hard to envisage him being able to elevate us to 17th or above in the Prem.

If Lampard is appointed, im going to go with a glass half full approach and say that he’s going to do well here.
Every single situation is different and complex, everything that has come out in the last two weeks has shown that and past performances dont necessarily indicate future results.

Im not going to judge him as a failure and a poor appointment before he’s even driven into the training ground. I could definitely imagine him getting a tune out of this squad.
Will be an interesting season if he is appointed.
Maybe its the shake up we need and if being “Frank Lampards Coventry City” gives us the exposure needed to get some more of our transfer targets over the line then great.

Plus more games on the telly is good for all of you that moan about ticket prices

Mixed feelings about Lampard to be honest

On one hand, his previous record is poor. Took Derby from 6th to 6th with big help from Premier League level loan players, albeit an excellent Villa side beating Derby in the final. You cannot knock his first season with Chelsea. Transfer embargo and whilst the squad was excellent it makes a difference. Everton and second Chelsea spell evidently forgettable

However, I think he has put his ego to one side and want to prove himself as a manager so why not us. We are an attractive club to work for and hopefully King give him the tools he needs to succeed. As a player, if Lampard was my manager just the name alone would want me to give it my all. Maybe our midfielders will finally want to shoot outside the box more!

Understand why people feel underwhelmed and disappointed but regardless let;s get behind him and hope he does well for us!

It was nothing to do with Rooney taking Birmingham down. Try and read the post. It was about Blues being prefixed with "Wayne Rooney's..." same with Derby, "Rooney's Rams". Nothing to do with him performance. I hope his performance for us is blistering. However, I do not want to be labelled "Frank Lampard's" Coventry City constantly in the media.

I’ll ask my friend about the Derby behind the scenes and see what I can find but I’d be careful listening to Derby Fans considering how annoyed there where that he left when he did.

On the lads culture I can’t find much, I know about Keogh but that happened after he left so hard to tell if it was due to him or the next guy. Plus let’s be honest, people do develop he admitted he wasent good enough for the second spell of Chelsea. I’d assume lessons were learned based on his comments on the overlap.

Will look into tactics but always thought he spoke decently but truthfully haven’t looked too hard.

If he is installed before Saturday then I hope he doesn't get a hard time against Sheffield United. Despite not really being too enamoured at the thought of him being manager I wouldn't want to hear "There's only one Mark Robins" ringing out from the terraces. It's not his fault that Robins was sacked. Those of us who went to Sunderland did that and we made our feelings known to the owner.

If the rumours are true then he should be backed.

I’m laying all my concerns out in one post it probably comes off as a lot. But there’s layers to the reasons I don’t want Lampard.

I hope if it’s him I’m totally wrong and he galvanises this squad. We are a play off quality side just lacking some form looking at all the stats. It shouldn’t take much to get us purring if whoever comes in has some basic tactical knowledge and can motivate this deck.
