If it is Lampard, it's an extra big gamble. He doesn't have a history of success in management, or being part of a long term project he's dedicated himself to. He's an unknown quantity, who hopefully can prove himself.

Least he would have a fire to prove himself after a couple of years on the shelf unlike some other managers who seemingly go through the motions.

Frank Lampard closing in on new manager's job after brutal sacking

Coventry parted ways with Mark Robins earlier this week, with Chelsea and England legend Frank Lampard now expected to take the reins of the Championship club

What the hell's going on? Just had one poster saying he would rather shit in his hands and now you are talking about going through the motions.

Neither did Robins 7 years ago

I have no doubt if it is him, he would've taken the job to prove he can get a team promoted out of the championship and not just something to do for a paycheck, which is good and what you want.

Whether his ability as a coach will match that is yet to be seen.

I really hope that's the case, and he has the ability. Because nothing good can come from a manager merry go round.

I'm not buying the Frank Lampard link to be honest. Just google his name and you'll see he has been linked with about 30 different jobs this past week or two. An agent working over time I think to ensure people know he's available.

I think even you can grasp that this is a completely different situation for the club.

Will apparently be announced at 9am tomorrow, three year contract and bringing his own staff. The four coaches will be let go.

^According to a mate who is typically pretty well-informed. Pinch of salt, as ever.

Otis I’m lost mate?

What I mean is I feel he would have something to prove considering the last two jobs and his reputation and that I want someone hungry for success as opposed to another manager just here for a paycheck

John Sillett had some success with Hereford but wasn’t a person you’d have naturally thought would have bought the best seasons we’ve actually ever had - would you?

I've been very critical of the start of their time here, but will feel pretty horrible for them if they're binned not even half a year after joining. Hard to see what else could happen because Lampard will inevitably want his own people and DK isn't going to make the payroll even bigger

And BTW if we do actually appoint Lampard, that is worthy of even greater mockery than Brum when they hired Rooney over Eustace. That would be any semblance of faith I once had in King gone.

Absolutely no way this happens surely. If we’re open to binning off the coaches for a new manager, why didn’t we do just that and keep robins?

On one hand Lampard on the other hand a really competent coaching team who have worked at the top of the game. Tough choices if only we could of given mark the coaching team

Might have been demands by Lampard. Was listening to him on the overlap and seems to want certain individuals with him in his management

He won a title, and that was proof he could manage a team effectively. Lampard doesn't have that yet, although I sincerely hope he ends up being one of our greatest ever coaches, if appointed.

Personally after all the shenanigans going on would like Lampard as coach - my opinion it’s a good fit

Respect opinion but big difference is position. It’s not like Doug’s sacked Robins in sixith and brought in a managers who highest position is bottom half championship

Make you wonder if it was Robins who picked the coaching team then.

I guess it would boil down to whether they were MR appointments or DK appointments, whether Lampard (or anyone) would be happy to work with them rather than bring their own people in, and whether DK would want to keep them on the books in addition to anyone the new person wants to bring in

Maybe because they weren’t actually forced on Robins and he was involved in their recruitment?

As a proof of concept could he have the playoff final with Derby or top four with Chelsea when they couldn’t sign players and had to use the youth teams?

Works both ways. There’s absolutely no way of knowing that it’s not happening either.

I think to be honest he had more say than we think. It’s one of them where if it had worked Robins would get all the credit but since it failed the blame goes to someone else.

On paper hope Rhys stays as feel he’s a decent coach but wouldn’t keep the rest

I get what you're saying, but the statement when Robins was sacked was the new manager would work with the existing coaching structure at the club.

Just seems a little strange to fuck everyone off after spending all that time and money on appointing them.

If you take it like for like on a season then of course, but I'm talking about Robins -> Lampard vs Eustace -> Rooney.

Why????

We're not flying high like Brum were and lampard has done better as a manager than Rooney thus far.

I'm not convinced, but yes.

Also not sure about him leaving Derby at the first opportunity.
