Frank Lampard said I’m here because of the poor start to last season.
King would have said I need us to start this season strong and so far so good. 22 goals, 15 GD to top it off.

Started game 17 or 18. 17pts and very lowly.

We could be on 33 pts this season by his 46th league game in charge.

The only thing that concerns me is this...

Completely out of Frank's hands though of course

This is what he said after last night's game. I agree. I think it's going to be difficult.

We can't afford to lose the likes of Wright or Grimes to injury.

I think this could prove to be our downfall as the season pans out

Hoping King will at least let us add a couple of new faces come January. Not sure he will though.

Of course he will. We clearly have the funds available and we were trying for a couple of others that didn't come off. We've also done something every Jan since he bought the club.

Well, I hope so. Just thought I had heard King say that the squad size was fine.

Am I imagining that?

Yeah, but it can also mean players going in the opposite direction too can't it

He said he likes small squads, i wouldn't read too much into it. I actually do too for what its worth, rather than a bloated one eating up wages, but its obvious we could do with one or two through the door to help what we have.

We won't let anyone of any worth leave in Jan if we're in a good position, as a club we simply are not that stupid anymore.

Certainly have been in the past.

If we are still where we are come January, I don't think any players would want to leave anyway.

Yeah, agree on this. Smaller more compact squads are fine.

We do need a degree of luck with injuries/suspensions though and fingers crossed, these recent injuries to EMC, Rudoni and now Torp, don't seem to be long term meaning they'll miss loads of games.

Allen, Eccles and Andrews are fine to come in for a few games.

Under King its not something that has happened and he clearly batted away offers for some of our better players in the summer. It's just not believable that its something we would do right now. Also as you say, why would anyone want to leave right now?

I think i'd certainly be wanting someone who could come in over Allen and Andrews, which is where the help in the Jan window comes in. There's not too much to complain about atm though is there.

I think hes just managing expectations, and keeping everyone's feet on the ground.
Nothing wrong with that.

In reality our squad is only short of 1 player, so its a myth that we are horrendously short. And that 1 player will no doubt be here in January.

Last night we were missing EMC, Dovin and Rudoni, but we still had the kind of bench most teams would be envious of.

He is making sure doug is aware that we need 1-2 signings in January whilst also take expectations off himself and the players

It's smart.

Sky commentary was saying what a luxury to be able to bring KKH off the bench after winning 3 player wards last season.

He's just managing expectation.

It's going to be difficult for every team to achieve what they want in this division. It's an unforgiving, attritional league. Nobody's going to have it all their own way this year.

We do need a couple in January; I'm sure if the right player is available at the right price, they will be brought in. I'd also hope that we'd look to utilise the loan market to make sure that we're not left short.

The right players have to be available in January. its no good signing someone who isnt upto it, else they will just go out on loan or be bench warmers

Why'of course'? King said in his interview he prefers a smaller squad. I think it may come back to bite us.
I still think Robins would have done better in 21/22 with a couple of decent additions in January if sisu had backed him.
Hopefully we have got the funds for some extra bodies.

We tried to sign other players, we always sign players in Jan under King, we have plenty of money. We can't really argue over something that hasn't happened yet but if I offered you a bet that we'd sign someone with you on the side of not signing someone, would you take that bet?
I think its absolutely nailed on personally.

Well Lampards comments were clearly aimed at King, (though most managers try to put pressure on the owners in a similar vein)
I do think we'll sign someone but the advantages of the smaller squad comment came from the horses mouth, and if he thinks that's the way forward then I think he's wrong.

If we have to operate like that because of finsncial constraints then so be it but it shouldn't be our strategy which is what King suggested in his Q and A.

I don't think saying he likes a smaller squad necessarily means he wouldn't back the manager with a couple more players, especially as we were actually in for more players. The failure to secure Rak-Sakyi suggests we'll at least be looking at a wide forward.

King said he likes a small squad but also acknowledged that the squad is thin...

Turner said we were trying for 2 players on deadline day that didn't happen (one being confirmed as Rak-Sakyi)

Why do people think King is completely happy with the squad?

Hopefully just expectation management. If its not its a bit worrying to have your owner saying he likes small squads and your manager saying the squad is too small to maintain a promotion challenge.

Probably just calming people down when you're got people talking about winning the league and going the whole season unbeaten!!!

If we get into serious trouble there is always the free agent option as a last resort until January.
Most players without a club will keep themselves fit if they have any desire to find a new club eventually.

If we’re around where we are now come January, I could see 4 coming in. Probably a couple of loans in there.

There's money available (see: Charlie Hughes saga).

King isn't afraid to spend decent fees in Jan (see: Matt Grimes).

If we can get there and still be in/in touch with the autos spots I'm sure we will do business. 3 or 4 would be ideal, could be mainly loans though.

I can see the value of a smaller squad and also see the value of a bigger one.

DK is not going to spend for the sake of it come January, but I also feel if we are in the same position in the table as we are now, that he will open up the checkbook perhaps a bit more than he thought he would.

As with any sport, as long as we hopefully stay injury free and consistent, realistically imo should not need a ton of incomings this Winter anyway.
