Four-match ban for King (2 Viewers)

Marlon King must serve a four-match suspension after being sent off during Coventry's 4-1 defeat at home to Bristol City.

The striker was dismissed for an off-the-ball clash with Damion Stewart as the Sky Blues slumped to their heaviest loss of the season on Saturday.

Manager AidyBoothroyd had no complaints about the decision to give King his marching orders, saying after the match: "If Marlon has raised his hand it gives him (the referee) no option and he has to go."
But having also been shown a red card against Ipswich on New Year's Day, it has now been confirmed that King will miss a third of Coventry's remaining Championship fixtures.

He will sit out Tuesday's trip to Doncaster as well as the games against Hull City, Burnley and Preston.

The length of the suspension comes as a real blow for a Coventry side who are sliding alarmingly down the standings and are now 19th - just six points off the drop zone - following one victory in 14 matches.
King is the club's leading scorer this season with seven goals in all competitions, six of which have come in the league

Other players have to step up to the plate, so I guess it will be Platt and Juxy up from tomorrow

Either that or Freddy's got to buck up his ideas and re-find that brief spell of goalscoring form he had earlier this year. Although considering the (lack of) effort he seems to have put in over his last few sub appearances, i'd play Platt ahead of him at the mo too. Thankfully Jutkiewicz has really started to come good in the last few games, cos we're gonna need him now! Hopefully his goal on Saturday could start a little purple patch for him.

Time to see what the squad are made of tomorrow. Juke has started to become a pretty decent player and hopefully gets a few more goals between now and the end of the season. On overall work rate i'd start Platti over Freddy because he just doesn't try hard enough for me. Big loss to the team not being able to play King because he contributes so much and encourages others around him.

The most annoying thing is that he is clearly a class above any other player in our squad, but on 2 separate occasions he has let down everyone associated with our club, through needless acts of retaliation. Surely, history at least should have taught him that he of all people should not raise his hands to anybody, the bloody fool!! PUSB

What i dont understand, is Boothroyd didnt appeal against it, because it would make King have a 4 game ban. So we dont appeal....and he gets a 4 game ban?! I do think its a bit of a personal attack, as you dont see many other players getting the same length of ban. How many games was Gattuso suspended for for headbutting tottenhams coaching staff? That was intentional, whereas King was more a knee jerk reaction.

Im not defending him, he should have been sent off, but for me i cant understand how it wasnt just a 2 game ban which would at least mean we have him back for the Preston game which is massive. Instead, god help us, we are relying on the rest of them.

I do feel that Marlon has been subjected to harsh treatment, but what did he or we expect? The most blatant ante-King act was by the referee in a recent game at The Ricoh. The way i saw it is that Marlon was booked for celebrating by merely lifting his shirt over his head, and not taking it off, which is bookable. Maybe the rule has changed. However, surely despite, no doubt, much provocation on the pitch, he has let us all down. This man, especially, should not be lifting his hands to anybody in simulation or otherwise. We have given this chap another chance in life to show that he was prepared to improve his character. So far he has let us down twice, whichever way it is glossed up. I still think that he is one of our best signings since relegation, but maybe he should consider donating his wages for the next four crucial games, to a worthy charitable cause. Just my opinion.

I agree about the donation of wages 6 generations, but im sure we know that wont be happening. Though i do suspect Aidy will fine him behind closed doors. End of the day, he is a class above, which sadlyt really does show how below par the rest of the squad is in general, and with him out, we are having to ask everyone to step up to the plate, just to make up for his mistake and resulting 4 match ban. The man tipped to steer us to playoffs, could be steering us to relegation with his indiscipline.

Well said ! I did wonder wether the ban would be the same had it been another, shall we say, less contraversial player.
