Honestly I think about that incident every month as a real sliding doors moment. Everything in the past 7 odd years may never have happened. Was clearly onside and would have shifted momentum. Does anybody else think about this often or have a similar sliding doors thought? I’m sure it’s most likely just my odd brain

The obvious one is if we hadn't won the League Two Play Offs. Who knows where we'd be now. Notts County were even non-league for a bit afterwards.

Another that comes to mind is the Rotherham away game I think in where we won 1-0 from an Ostigard goal, but we were in danger of being pulled into the Championship relegation zone if not.
Rotherham were relegated that season.

Not forgetting the fortunate penalty in the home leg.

I think we had Notts County's number on that night regardless. The Middlesbrough play off game had me much more on edge.

A bad sliding doors moment is obviously Hamer going off injured in the Play Off final, a good one would be Preston coming in for Tom Bayliss which freed up a bit of money to allow us to bring in Matty Godden. He just worked up front in that team, was the perfect signing at the perfect time. Obviously it helped that Peterborough had Ivan Toney at the time so felt comfortable allowing him to move on too.

Balanced out the clear foul missed for their first goal in the same game.

Easy to forget that Tom Bayliss seemed like a real world beater at that time. Shame what happened to his career.

Had a lot of natural talent. Preston was the wrong move imo but he got his '10 bags' a week for 4 years so he's probably ok.

Talking of sliding door moments, we've been on an upwards trajectory since this slide to be fair

Only reason they were one up in the first leg was the absolute downpour just before kick off. If it had been played in a decent conditions and there was no surface water on the pitch we would of smashed them at home as well.

Change that to Overson paying for Godden then.
I'd say Doyle talking McNulty into coming too, think we'd still be in League 2 if it wasn't for him. If i recall he was on the verge of joining Mansfield or something and was favouring that move until Doyle got involved... embarrassing really what SISU turned us into.

If that’s true…Jesus wept. That in itself leads me to think sinking further into non-league might well have happened, given time.

The obvious Wembley penalty shoot out vs Luton.

Penalty shoot outs are little more than a Toss of the coin, and to lose the richest match in British football in such a way is devastating.

But looking where Luton are now, makes you wonder if they'd have been better off losing that match and been a better championship side as a result???
Sure the money would of been useful towards the new stadium etc, but they could end up in league 1 for years.

As for us, can't help wondering what might of been, possibly keeping Gyokeres, Hamer and O'hare and adding more quality, would we have survived that first season back in the top flight ???

People laugh, but games need that sometimes. (not the red card, the mad tackles)

3-1 down, got us fired right up again!

The lead up to that Rotherham game gave me a few sleepless nights. Was on my mind constantly that we’d slip up and go back now again. Can remember Ostigard’s shithouse celebration vividly

I wondered what you were on about, OP! Fonte was the Southampton and Lille player, but yeah, I get you.

Jonathan Forte pulled one back for County that was disallowed for 'no reason' - and were there not two offsides in the build-up to Biamou's second?
