Ben Mayhew of Experimental 3-6-1 does an excellent season stats review and it really was an excellent season for City.

Nothing that we don’t already know (our defence was shit but not quite as bad as we thought and our attackers couldn’t hit a Bern door with a banjo) but interesting comparisons to other teams in the division.

Interesting reading. Those charts say to me our attack was fine and our defence was mid to poor tbh. Were along the frontier (after Leeds) for xG and attacking effectiveness and lower mid table for defence.

And this is the movement up and down the league table. Notice obvious shift from November….

And finally comparing squad ages from championship. Average for us 25.5 but obviously we had oldies Wilson, Bidders and Allen.

For all the noice about how Sunderland were the youngest squad we weren’t that far behind!
Notice the old uns at Derby and Blackburn!

Quite a similar age profile to Leeds.

Getting my popcorn ready for the “stats don’t mean anything” crowd.

They’re currently pre-occupied with remembering to breathe and trying to spell their own first names correctly (without eating the crayons).

I'm not sure how Leeds can be in the top 2% percent of teams, when there's 24 teams which by definition means the top team is the top 4.17%

I'd interpret as: our attack was good; our defence bang average. It suggests we need to invest in our defense, though I've been suggesting a new Centre Forward and Right Winger... Perhaps the forwards are just easier positions to understand than the defense.

If Dovin had played every game we would've had a load more points. Might've finished 4th.

It’s only natural to want an overhaul of our front line after being eliminated in two games where we consistently failed to carve out or take chances. But it’s the defence that has been the real problem for two straight years now, whereas going forward we are clearly one of the league’s better teams.

Love how we spent the most days in our favourite position of 17th, sometimes familiarity is what you want

Portsmouth did well after spending 103 days in the relegation places.

Attacking well overall isn't a cover for certain low performing individuals to hide behind. We'll be actively looking to upgrade multiple positions. Sounds like the LB, which is a definite problem position, will hopefully be sorted soon.

Nice to see our old favourite league position of 17th being where we spent most of our days

PERCENTAGE OF 2024-25 LEAGUE MINUTES ACCUMULATED BY PLAYERS STILL AT EACH CLUB EACH SEGMENT IS A PLAYER, WITH SIZE PROPORTIONAL TO MINUTES PLAYED LAST SEASON, IN DESCENDING ORDER
DARK-SHADED SEGMENTS INDICATE PLAYER STILL AT CLUB, LIGHT-SHADED SEGMENTS ARE THOSE WHO HAVE LEFT
(Sorry for caps. Copied text above for those with terrible sight!)

Squad retention looks to be in our favour too this year.

Consistent and no loans means with 2 or 3 additions we’ll have a very good squad this season.

There are only three teams who currently have more than 90% of their 2024-25 league minutes still in the building, with four having already dropped below two-thirds.

Sheff Weds look in a mess!

Burnley were a hyper outlier on that defense chart
