CITY FANS TO TELL FOOTBALL LEAGUE: ‘SORT IT OUT!’

Press release for immediate issue

Sunday saw Sky Blues supporters boycott sisu’s move to Northampton in massive numbers and fans from the Keep Cov in Cov campaign are now going to take their message direct to the Football League offices in London, W1U 8FL from 4.30-6.30pm this coming Wednesday, 14 August. Scarcely 1,000 fans paid to enter Northampton Town’s Sixfields ground on Sunday, while an estimated 8,000 people watched a CCFC Legends game at the Ricoh. That figure is higher than the total capacity at Sixfields.

Michael Orton, Coordinator of the Keep Cov in Cov campaign explained: ‘Sunday sent out a massive message that City fans do not want to be in Northampton and our home is here in Coventry, at the Ricoh Arena. Only Joy Seppala of sisu and Greg Clarke, Chairman of the Football League, seem to think it’s a good idea – the rest of the football world knows it is completely wrong. So as a follow up to Sunday we will meet outside the Football League office in London and hand deliver a Keep Cov in Cov message to make sure they know exactly how fans are feeling’.

There has been considerable criticism of the League’s handling of the sisu situation including questions raised in Parliament by Coventry North East MP Bob Ainsworth. Concerns include whether there was a breakdown in the League’s verification procedures for Sky Blues players and whether the League has even followed its own rules. But in addition to seeking answers, Michael believes it is now time for the Football League to address the situation with CCFC head on: ‘Sunday also showed that the move to sixfields is unsustainable. No matter what Greg Clarke and Joy Seppala say, the reality is staying in Northampton is simply not a viable option. They've got to bite the bullet so why not do it sooner rather than later?’

Further information about this Wednesday, 14 August, at the Football League offices, London W1U 8FL, 4.30-6.30pm, is availble by emailing keepcovincov@gmail.com

Not wishing to piss on your cornflakes, but will anyone from FL be there at 0430-0630pm?
Anyway, good luck to all who attend, anything is better than nothing.

Recently attended a small London demo to do with an anti convulsant drug which led to abnormalities at birth.
There were very few people there but the message was clear and it was picked up by the press.
It also gave an opportunity for those involved to meet, share ideas and plan the follow up strategy/next campaign.
People say that these sort of things are "pointless"?
THey are anything but.....particularly when the grievance is entirely legitimate.

Good luck to all of those who make it down there. Rest assured, you speak for the massive majority of us - it would be great to say for all of us, but as already seen on this thread, there are some who just can't be arsed!

Far too short notice again and have you contacted the supporters groups who did a similar thing a few months back I.e Liverpool Spirit of Shankly and Stand Against Modern Football?

Good idea but futile if organised poorly.

Unfortunately the FL is self regulating, and makes up/changes it's own rules and regulations whenever it chooses. This has worked against the wishes of the vast majority of Sky Blue fans, but has enabled the fixture list to be completed, which was paramount to the FL.
For this reason, the FL is unlikely to take much notice of a handful of fans.
I think the issue should be taken up with a higher governing body, either the FA or FIFA, to ensure that the FL has acted in accordance with existing rules and regulations. An investigation by either of these administrative bodies would have a greater influence on decisions made by the FL, rather than trusting the FL to hold an internal investigation, which might result in an overdose of fudge and whitewash.
Good luck with your endeavours.

Sadly Gonk Fifa are hardly great role models are they. After all how could they possibly justify holding the world cup in Qatar then expect every league to fit around it!

Seems corruption appears to be from top to bottom in football

Are you going to Wembley tomorrow? If u are then: come along to kcic/nopm protest at Football League offices London W1U 8FL 4.30-6.30pm; tell other England fans who support other clubs to come too; hv banners ready to take to Wembley. Tomorrow's slogans are: 'Keep Cov in Cov'; 'CCFC say - Greg Clarke sort it out'; 'CCFC say - Football League sort it out' '2k @ sixfields, 8k at Ricoh - CCFC fans hv spoken' '2k @ sixfields, 8k at Ricoh - FL sort it out', '8k @ Ricoh, 2k at sixfields - Seppala-sisu do your sums!'. Or any variations u fancy!

I tell you what instead of coming on here slagging us off all the time why dont you organise a Northampton against Groundshare protest aimed at your owners. You keep mentioning liverpool we are not Liverpool who can probably get more supporters from London to attend than weve got in the whole of Coventry

Great, look forward to meeting you!

FYI I've also just posted this -

Reading the Riot Act! For anyone who hasn't been on one of our protests before, just a couple of things to be clear about for tomorrow 4-30-6.30pm @ Football League W1U 8FL...it's been hard work but we're finally getting the national media interested and largely supportive, plus excellent and growing public backing. We've achieved that by being determined and focused but always keeping it good humoured and with exemplary behaviour. Any disorder will immediately become the media story and only one person will gain from it - Joy Seppala, who would love nothing more than to be able to dismiss us as a bunch of hooligans. So we won't give her the chance and the other thing is every event so far has actually been a good laugh, you get to meet some great City fans and there's always time for a well earned pint after!

No chance they're there on match days...they're in the directors' box at various plush stadiums (in fact probably Old Trafford, Emirates, Anfield, Etihad, White Hart Lane or Stamford Bridge) as guests.

Just had a message from a Northampton Town fan saying he's going to try and get to our Football League protest today 4.30-6.30pm plus a Pompey fan, couple of Villa fans and a few others too - brilliant to know other supporters willing to back us and they see the madness of what's going on. Respect!

That's all brilliant.
Well done to the organisers.
Sorry I cannot be there.
However, I will be writing a long letter to the FL - Greg Dyke too - and will post these on here.

Have all the media outlets been informed of the protest so they can send cameras and journalists there at the time mentioned?

If your main message to the FL is going to be 'Keep Cov in Cov' then you are wasting your time.

Why? because the FL can bat that away by simply saying 'well, if you weren't in Northampton you would be out of the league'.

Your message needs to be along the lines of 'SISU FAIL YOUR OWN FIT AND PROPER TEST. GET THEM OUT OF FOOTBALL'

That's one they don't want people to discuss or scrutinise.

Good luck.
