I think he's our only player with the ability to see a pass, therefore i rather see him in middle of the park where we can get him on the ball more.

Has anyone seen him play in the middle of a 4 man midfield.

(Funnily i used to think Jay Tabb would be much better in the middle than out wide, so was interested to watch him play in the middle of a 4 man midfield in the premiership against qpr the other day).

I would say he was not a winger at all but cannot ignore the fact he is the highest contributor of league goals this season behind McGoldrick

Tabb is far more mobile than Fleck. Fleck would be a disaster in a central midfield two

Think Barton can pick a pass and control a game. However I don't think he is likely to get another go now.

Robins sees his quality. However he prefers two combatative midfielders. Who can blame him it works.

If we're playing a four man midfield we need no more than 2 that flit in and out of games. Baker does it, Fleck does it, Moussa does it, Barton does it.

For me, if it has to be 4-4-2, it has to be Jennings and Bailey in the middle.

Bailey was picking a few passes on Tuesday with some accuracy to be fair.

Spot on, but I would argue that if we want to compete at the other end of the league consistency and have control of possession and the game, then
All 4 need to contribute more often. fleck completely disappeared int the second half on Tuesday and that's no good when the man on the other flank is struggling to contribute with the ball.

I think his best position would be as a supporting striker/attacking midfielder. In a 442 I would say LM is his best position

I was getting the Impression on Tuesday that he is'nt compitent in the defensive duties required,Jordan was fairly exposed for much of the time.I also wondered if he would be safer in the middle.

Fleck I think may be best suited to a free role just behind the striker(s).

Think though that he would be the one player of that ilk you could allow in the side and that you then in that circumstance couldn't also accommodate Baker as well.

I think he would be more of a liability in the centre, leaving his partner exposed and letting midfield runners past him a bit like Barton. And if you did play him in the middle you'd end up having to play 2 of Moussa, baker, sheffers out wide and you'd have 3 of the midfield 4 that go missing for long periods.

I'd like to see Baker dropped, Moussa on the right, Hussey given a go on the left with Fleck in a 'free role' behind McG. With Bailey and Jennings sitting back.

Note: not too sure about Hussey out wide myself but I believe he has ability (somewhere!) but a poor attitude and he had a good game v York and I thought he could be a decent LM, and I'd like to be proven right (but the best for CCFC comes first!)

Interesting. Bit harsh on baker though. Maybe try it when he has a bad games.

It is nice to have options.

Maybe I am, but he is by far, the most frustrating player to watch in our squad, IMO of course.

He does fook up simple things in most games.

He certainly looks it. He has some talent but stamina is very suspect. In a midfield role he would get over-run very quickly.

I'd rather not play Hussey on the left. He's had 1 decent 17 minute cameo against a team in a lower division who were already 2-0 down and defended suicidally. He then came on as left mid vs Swindon and was shocking, and started the game vs Brentford on the left wing and was promptly substituted at half time.

Oh I forgot after that 17 minute cameo he was dubbed by some on here as the new Gareth bale...

Not in all cases we could play a 4-3-1-2?, 3 cm's and use the full backs for width, not that we really try to make crosses but it could work ?

To be honest I didn't have a problem with the diamond with the players we had at our disposal, but I would imagine those who hated it would also had 4312 for the same reason.....it's not 442

I like the current midfield. Bailey can pick a pass, and break play up. Jennings is getting better and better, similair player to Bailey always keeps the play nice and simple, he his improving with ever game. Fleck really needs stay where he is. He is probably the best passer in the side, and has an eye for goal, just look at the number of assists this season. That leaves Baker, I still think he deserves a place in the side. I don't think there is anyone more committed to the cause, yes he makes mistakes, but every player does. He offers a threat from the wide areas and on his day can run a game.

Thorn has clearly brought players in based solely around the diamond, Fleck and Barton for the tip, Jennings for the base as an example. Not saying we should revert to it though.

Wouldn't necessarily need the diamond. Could play 4-2-3-1. You'd still have wingers but you could also accomodate the man playing just behind the striker.

Though then you'd get people moaning about 1 up front being negative even though pretty much every successful team does it nowadays.

by playing Fleck on the left it allows him to get on the ball further up the field, put him in the middle and he would drop deep to get the ball.

The probelem with 4231 is that it only really works when you have a mobile target man who's happy to stay up top, and two pacy wide men who can get up and support him quickly. Robins tried the 4231 early on but McGoldrick look isolated and kept dropping deep to get involved meaning no one is up front. And has Fleck got the mobility to play that role effectively, yeah he might pull some strings but has he got it in him to make runs in behind the striker?
