Seeing as nothing is happening I thought I'd fix football.

I was thinking the other day it's stupid that the top teams hoard the elite goalkeepers, so many decent keepers sit on the bench not getting a sniff whilst the championship teams have to make do with whatever is left.

Pie in the sky but my idea was there should be a special loan system specifically for GKs.

Bit convoluted but bear with me!

So a Champ team could loan a Prem reserve keeper but the deal has a clause that they have to send the GK back if his parent teams main keeper gets injured.

..But built into the deal is a agreement the Prem team has to then send in the opposite direction their 3rd choice keeper so the Champ team isn't left short.

So basically the lower team pay a fee/wage package to secure the use of 2nd choice keeper at a prem team but the deal also includes a backup of their 3rd choice if the loan has to be cut short.

It would need rule changes so that the keeper can be recalled/switched out of the window and obviously it would be tricky to get 2 players to agree.

Would be hard to pull off but win win for all surely? Reserve keeper gets game time to develop, Standard of goalkeeping in the championship goes up and all parties are covered in an emergency.

Only risk would be the prem team having to use the 3rd choice for one game if their 1st choice gets injured in game. But surely that is a price worth paying to keep your backup fully up to game pace and sharp.

Not sure if it makes much sense for the elite clubs.

They do not want to risk one or two matches with a 3rd choice keeper instead of the primary backup. One or two games can easily be the difference in a title race or the chase for Champions League slots. That carries huge financial risk.

Plus, by not spending everyday with teammates in training, that primary backup keeper has lost time spent mastering the parent club's tactics that will needed to be engrained in them when their number is called upon.

All valid at clubs like Man City who have an identity and style but middling Prem teams still have far better keepers rotting on a bench getting barely a look in. Just seems a waste to me.

Not sure if there's clause in the deal for an instant recall it would take more than 1 game to get them back

That guy Man United got from Turkey for instance, you can't say he'd not be better off playing and at the very least getting himself in the shop window.

The club would be in the same boat then. The champ team would have backup so it would just be treated as an injury to their main keeper and the backup would play.

There is still also emergency loans for keeper too isn't there?

Bruce Grobbelaar might be able to help you out.

Sort the handball rule out
Keep goal line technology
Check for offside but don't draw lines
Fuck off VAR

multi-ball
have 3 teams play at once, just add another goal on the sideline or something (reduces fixtures)
cage matches
allow fighting like they do in the NHL
if draw at 90 minutes - next goal wins

Or to stop them hoarding players restrict all teams to 40 pro-contracted players, regardless of age, nationality or which academy they came through.

Good youngsters at top academies but won't play for that team for a fair few years - instead of being loaned out in perpetuity for years they get released, a team lower down will pick them up, develop them and can then benefit from that when the player gets sold.

Established players can't get hoarded where a top team can pay them £100k a week to barely play so will have to accept an offer from lower down. Wages should come down a bit. So overall standard should go up.

Probably not. But it's a simple change to the laws that would even out the competition to a fairer extent.

Matter of no will to do it rather than it being a hard thing to do.

opened thread expecting a discussion about var, state ownership, ffp, multi club groups, tv deals etc. etc.

got a half brained, incredibly convoluted 2nd/3rd choice goalie loan system instead

Of all the things to fix football this would bd way down the list.

I'd start with fekkin time wasting, cheating and deliberate injuries. And I'd make VAR clear and obvious, one take at normal speed.

if it hits anywhere from the top of the arm down its handball - doesnt matter where the arm is or how close the player is when its kicked or whether accidental etc

rules need changing to take away the guesswork in decision making - thats the main problem with VAR, its all subjective so nothing can be "clear or obvious"

yea agree with this one, dont stop play for subs or injuries either, play around them like rugby, the 4th official that does bugger else can monitor it.

And mic up the refs

Scrap points and have league position purely on Goal Difference.

Fuck that, go purely on alphabetical order. We play Cardiff in the play off semifinals.
