Well Burge was preferred instead of O'Brien who played in the last cup match so where does that really leave him now?

Thibk burge and lob win ratios sinilar? So doesnt really need to be first name on team sheet

Agree though that LOB probably won't play again this season so makes you wonder if MR will move him on in summer.

Always need a backup.

Might lay with LOB himself. Is he prepared to stay second fiddle.

No agreed.
It should be reclassified 'First 4on the teamsheet ',with 'A GK',else the goals against takes a hammering.

Im not suggesting we start next season witu 1 keeper lol

Robins mihht be peeved woth him though if he is oe of thr moaners. Could be replaced

That said i think both keepers are good enough for league 2 and even league 1 probably so no hasty decisions yet.

Although if a gk mistake costs us promotion...

Obviously we don't know how Robins perceives O'Brien or Burge for that matter but after O'Briens initial cock ups that cost us at the beginning of the season and after playing him in the last round against Stoke then not selecting him yesterday it don't look too good for him or am I reading too much into that?

I'm flabbergasted you are reading.

Is that something you picked up in the Far East?

Earlier in season steve and nick kept talking like he was inferior to both his Centre back partners.

I even remmeber nick saying our great defensive record was dosn to mscdonald alone....

Have a great sunday!

Let's be clear. Jordan Willis over the last 8/9 games has stepped up his game massively than his first 20 odd where he wasn't anywhere near the form he's on now. He's tightened up his game massively.

Currently on this form he's looking a top end league one player minimum, before he was a top end L2 performer with a championship players pace.

We all said he'd the ability but not the consistency and exposed at key times by physical players.

I don't perceive it to be anything against Lob particularly ,more to benefit Burge .

Willis has always taken stick on here. Been our best player for last 3 seasons. And yes I was arguing the same point back then.

Ha ha ha, I'm just over half way through a long 12hrs shift I didn't fancy this morning and that's just gave me the laugh I needed.

have you made MR aware of your excellence in this field? Could save a few quid on TW's wages and ask your opinion.

On a serious point. Are you suggesting that Willis had played at this level all season or stepped up a gear the past 7 weeks since we've spoke in detail about him?

There's been a definite improvement of late. Willis was clearly in part responsible for a number of goals earlier in the campaign, but lately his performances have been outstanding.

No bias from me, nor from Steve either I don't think.

When Burge had that howler against Exeter some also placed some of blame in Willis's direction, but I quite rightly I believe said that no blame could be put on Willis there. Willis had that ball covered all day long.

I think Willis has taken fair stick occasionally for sure, but also gets applauded when he puts in the performance his skill set suggests he can achieve. I don't think many have doubted his ability over all.

Plus if he's been our best player the last 3 seasons that hits the nail on the head unfortunately. His consistency hasn't been there like his teammates and has come on a long way this season playing in a settled side slowly improving and eliminating silly errors in his game having dropped a level to L2.

As I said the last 8/9 games he's stepped up another level to stand out. Consistency is key to him playing back higher up the leagues.

Most players in the team are replaceable. The one who isn’t is mcnulty.

Also although he’s not been that great since injury stokes is first choice as there is only a car crash of a defender to replace him.

If burge or biamou we’re injured we’d comfortably survive without them - if mcnulty was injured we’d have a big big problem.

No bias from me neither and like yourself can be documented as saying Willis was no way to blame for the Exeter mixup, Willis had it under control.

He's been nothing short of excellent of late. Long may it continue

I do have to admit that if McNulty was injured we could kiss promotion goodbye, no matter how Max starts to shine we definitely need another striker to hopefully see us over the line because Ponticelli isn't ready yet .

Which is where the debate on Willis originates from. I raised the point in the summer, should we sell him to fund a bid for James Collins. It's relevant again this window

If you was MR and a offer came in would you sacrifice Jordan Willis for 600/700k to bolster the attack for the final push to get out of league two or chance your arm on a solid defensive unit but reliant on McNulty staying fit and keeping up his goals.

If he's been excellent since the start of the season he must be world class now!!

Do you not recall Cambridge, O'Grady having the beating of him the whole game at Chesterfield, Lincoln display at right back, freedom for Eisa v Cheltenham to name a few and several ball watching episodes...

Good player yes, excellent first 20 games no.
Last 8/9 games excellent 100% no questions asked.

Look, you love him I like him.

I think it's fair to say we see things slightly differently and it stems from the summer I suggested we could possibly cash in to fund a striker.

Let's draw another line on it to save going over the same issues.

I'll ask one question tho if I may to see where you stand.

If you was MR and it's Monday morning (29th) you had one or two targets and contingency plans in place would you accept a fair bid off the back of Willis's solid performances to push the button on one or two strikers to hopefully see us over the line to bolster the attack.

Or would you stick and do no more business and be happy with a solid defensive unit and hope your forwards carry on as they were sat 2 games ago.

Oh and you drew Wigan away in the fa cup later that day.

Keep the back 4 ans hope strikers do enough

Defence wins championships! Also no guarantees strikers come in and score as we saw with max

Willis can do job in legaur 1. No point selling him when long term he can benefit so mcih

Thank you for your thoughts. It's interesting to see people's thoughts on if they'd stick or twist so to speak. I'll put it out for debate on a thread.

I agree he's a useful asset to have in L1 but there are no guarantees on promotion as we've seen occasionally when the strikers draw a blank we're a error away from defeat.

Extra one or two players signed may or may not do the business but we could be potentially a hamstring or a groin away from throwing promotion away.

Think we know my answer

If we make the championship (despite SISU owning us) Willis will still be good enough to make our team. McNulty won't.

Yes we've developed a different way .
Not sure I'd fiddle with Bayliss' role any further either, he's not a true right wide option,.
If Kellys back he's got to take the role on and match what Bayliss delivers ,then the boy could probably take a deserved and possibly required breather.
I don't think it's such a coincidence form has kicked on since his introduction.
