I remember 1986 we beat QPR last game of the season to stay up - George and John had just took over with 3 games to go - great atmosphere in the West Terrace.

Here’s some vague clues that someone might be able to piece together…I remember listening to a final game of the season, where due to the scores it was us rather than Luton going down. The scores changed and Luton were relegated.
I was probably about 12.
I hope that’s all the information you need.

Villa away. 92
Some kid from Loughborough University scored for already relegated Notts County to send Luton down instead of us!

If I remember that game had a bit of the 1977 about it. By half time I think a draw was enough for plays off for us and for them to stay up hence the poor spectacle

I remember beating Norwich 2-1 to stay up and they had a header or shot that hit the post, that could have sent us down.

That's if I am remembering clearly

You are, it hit the post and Perry Suckling caught the rebound

Their keeper made L2 team of the week. I think based on one cracking save in the 2nd half

Here's a good one, 1970s Neil Martin scoring the winning goal in the last five minutes of the game to win 1. 0 against Leicester which relegated them to division two.

I remember that (and the pitch invasion), but I don't thunk it was nothing to play for.

I recall us having to match Man City's result. They went 2 nil down to someone (Liverpool?), and brought it back to 2-2, and everyone was very worried. That's how it stayed, though, and we stayed up.

Found out when I got home that Man City's manager (Reid?) had got mixed up, thought a draw was enough, and got his side to protect their point rather than go for the win when getting back into it.

Their mgr was Alan Ball

I remember being down in Southampton, must have been about 1970/71 needed a point to stay up and drew 1-1.
Got the back window of the coach smashed by a house brick.
Haha the things you remember.

That was a bizarre game. We were actually competitive for most of the game, causing Seaman all sort of problems from corners, and going into the last 10 minutes we were only 2-1 down but looking like we might equalise. They then brought on Perry Groves as sub who tore us apart as they added 4 more goals to completely wipe us out.

Incidentally the Man City manager when they played keep ball thinking they were safe was Alan Ball and not Peter Reid.

The best final game for me. The culmination of 3 games that we had to win when everyone else had finished. The greatest escape of all and 2 years later we were FA Cup winners

The manager was Alan Ball (taken too soon)... Steve Lomas was doing the old 'take it to the corner flag' trick!

You should have used logic there... Peter Reid could never engineer a decent result for us!

2018 the most relaxed second half of football we have ever seen (Unless you were there in 1977) - I think the Sky Sports reporter said 'I have seen charity games played at a higher pace'

Also remember things getting very toxic towards Coleman last day of the season when we got spanked off Watford and he refused to bring Marcus Hall on in his last game

Regardless of staying up, Charlton in 2008 was a grim afternoon

We limped past the line but we were a disgrace that day, we probably deserved to get relegated

Up to the halfway line, and back again…. Up to the halfway line, and back again….

definitely a gentleman’s agreement on that one.

Last ever game at highfield road I think we had to not lose to guarantee our status in championship, but obviously we did it in style.
Great day and evening in town afterwards that was.

Nothing will ever match the Tottenham game and Oggy's late, late save. Absolute pandemonium in the away end

I was there too - Clock end visiting supporters section, bang in line with the goal line - They scored seven that day, believe me.
Oggy clawed one back that had clearly gone over the goal line but both ref and linesman failed to spot it despite Arsenal claims.

Funny old game football. We beat them in the same fixture just 3 months later, ably assisted by Lee Dixon's legendary own goal.
