If you're in the habit of getting it every year probably, it's refined enough over 17. If you want something that feels like a real difference though, I'd say no.

Was it the last goal you scored that match?

It looks a lot like FIFA 17, is it worth upgrading?

Yeah, I agree it doesn't look much better than Fifa 17?

The only real graphical upgrade that stands out early is the lighting and some of the animation, the rest is largely similar.

I think it looks more polished that 17, a few changes to the crowd etc that they surge forward when you score. They badly needed to update the commentary but its the same as the last few year, I am sick of Smith telling me that I am going to lose or my team have blades on each time it rains.

Defending is clunky, sliding tackles seem to be a no go and standing tackles don't seem to full connect like last years. I lost for Forest Green at home after winning 5 on the bounce and just couldn't work out what went wrong, scripting at play again...

I remember on 17 it was pretty much guaranteed a slide tackle would be a sending off no matter how cleanly you got it. It seemed to get better which I thought must have been an update.

For the first couple of months it was guaranteed a red card every game.

Clearly getting complacent due to the fact they know the game will sell, although Call of Duty thought the same and that has lost a lot of its fanbase.

Agree it's easy money for little development. Ideally it should be every two years with regular squad updates but money for old rope like all sports games

I used to think that was the way to go with FM, but it's too in-depth for me now.

same I don't have the patience or time for the detailed version. Liked the simpler version.

The new ones have a more streamlined play option that's supposed to be more reminiscent of the old CM days, might be an option.

FIFA is infuriating! you know within ten seconds of playing a game whether it will let you win! Just seems like this has ramped up on this years edition, still addictive however!

Yeah I was doing decent online, had played about 20, won 17, lost 2, drawn 1. Then I lost 5 out of the next 6 games out of the blue. Checked the record of the players I was playing against and they were all far worse than me. Scripting is a very big part of online play on FIFA. Until they get rid of it, FIFA will never be a genuinely competitive esports game like CoD, LoL, Dota etc

If this is how you respond to people whenever someone wants to have a serious discussion about depression, is it really that surprising there is such a stigma attached to it?

Are you on the WUM again? You didn't want a serious discussion, you only went that way when people pointed out you were being a dick.

Seems a better game this year, where having a passing game works well.
Last year I hated playing people with 2 95+ pace strikers up top and just lumped it forward..

not happy with the defending on this game though, conceded loads of pens with virtually no contact! All when I have been winning, strange that....

Some of my mates are devout FIFA players on Xbox.
I went round the other night to play it, and despite the licences (even though you can solve that issue on pes with an option file) I still think pes is miles better in terms of gameplay and realism.
There’s only so many times you can hit the bar in or game of fifa before you think somebody is taking the piss

All the money they make and they can't provide a decent connection. Used to play my mate regualr in online freindlies, but the latency has got so bad i've just given up. Anyone have any suggestions? My PS4 is a wired connection and my internet is decent..!??

Top of league one by 12 points with 8 to play, then the opposition all start playing like fecking Man Utd! Lose 4 on the bounce to wonder goals and shite defending. Thankfully still won but it just gets annoying!

Considering how often FIFA is criticised over player ratings it's clear they really do have somebody watching every team & this is reflected in the weekly updates.
There have been nice upgrades for the likes of Jodi, Concrete Rod, Nazon & Shipley (who has excellent set pieces now) whilst Stokes, Beavon & Kwame have been suitably downgraded.

Indeed, its not quire Football Manager standard but there must be a lot of data work going on to support it. Jodi is a decent player on it apart from his stamina and his shot power (both awful), Stevenson is also a cracking little player and does have the ability to develop into a good player. I am in the Championship now (2 seasons) and Stevenson is a 72 which is not bad.

I think the Football Manager thing is a big of a myth nowadays. No doubt they have a crazy size database but generally speaking their ratings for young players outside of the Premier League looks like total guesswork.
As an example, on FM17, Shipley, Ponticelli etc. only have the potential to to make it no further than an average National League player.

Of course. They are low rated on FIFA too but at least have potential!

I am pretty hooked. Still playing career with city, league winners in L2,1 and champ. Finished 2nd twice in prem but Utd keep pipping me.

My favourite budget player is a central midfielder called Mathew. Such an engine on him!

I've gone through most of the Journey again now, that was quite good but fucking hell the scripting is even worse.

I have won games 4-1, 3-1 and 5-1 but every game they have scored in the last minute where there has been absolutely nothing I can do about it. That's just against the CPU.

Tried to get a game on Seasons as CCFC with no joy, started a career as CCFC manager as well but might just simulate it.

Got it today on eBay for £25 brand new unwanted christmas present. Had them both last year and they were equally shit so I may as well play the one with Cov in. It's also easier to build yourself up on FUT now the market has calmed down.

How are there so many teams in the bottom two divisions on FUT with insanely good players?!
