INTERVIEW: Brandon Mason Rochdale Reaction
City come away from Court Lane with a 5-1 victory...

The Sky Blues got off to the perfect start in the FIFA Ultimate QuaranTeam, as they secured a 5-1 win over Rochdale at Court Lane.

City fell behind inside the opening minutes of the game, but that seemed to bring the Sky Blues into life, as they quickly bounced back.

Goals from Zain Westbrooke, Liam Walsh and a brace for Matty Godden helped to put City in the driving seat at half-time, before Amadou Bakayoko came off the bench to wrap things up late on.

Talking after the final whistle, City’s designated FIFA player, Brandon Mason was delighted to help book his sides place into the next round.

He said: “I’m happy to get the win for the boys and the team.

“We started off a bit shaky as we adjusted to the conditions at Court Lane, but once we settled, we started to play our stuff and we’re happy to get the win and book our place into the next round.”

The Sky Blues fell behind after just four minutes and Mason believes that helped kick start City’s game against the Dale.

“You never want to concede a goal so early on in a game, but it can happen and it’s a test of character to how you bounce back, and we did that.

“We came from behind as we have done on a few occasions this season and we just showed our quality and picked up where we left off against Ipswich.”

It was a familiar site for City fans, as Matty Godden scored a brace to help Mason move into the driving seat in the game and he spoke of his confidence in the striker.

“Matty is a deadly striker and he has scored goals this season and he’s done that again today against Rochdale.

“I fancied him to score any chance he gets in front of goal and if we keep supplying him chances, he’s going to continue to score goals.”

It was an emphatic win for Mason and the Sky Blues, and the defender admitted it was comfortable once he stretched his lead.

“I think once we got comfortable and got the goals, Rochdale took a back step towards their attacking play because I think they were worried about what we had going forward.

“That finished the game off for us and then in the second half it was nice to wrap it up late on with Baka getting amongst the goals.”

Now, the Sky Blues will take on Queens Park Rangers at Molton Road in the next round and Mason is hoping for a similar outcome.

“Who knows what the next round will bring, but we will be ready to give it our best and hopefully it results in us progressing again.”

Bassala Sambou will have played for Fortuna today against Sunderland.

I know it's a game but funny how we're somewhat connected to their virtual thrashing
